2018 Ford Escape SE with Sport Appearance Package

I had to put the Edge in the shop today for the APIM that finally decided to check it self out and some oil leaks. Thankfully both the APIM will be replaced under premium care as will the oil leaks. Apparently some seals have decided to break down didn't get a whole lot of information on that but I know it was a minor leak as I never lost much oil on the dipstick.

Now to the Ford Escape loaner I have. First off I had an 2017 Escape last time my car was in during May of 2016, but it only had the basic sync system. This one has the SYNC 3 system and it is such a major improvement over MyFordTouch (Sync 2) and Apple CarPlay is awesome. I love the CarPlay map integration. The Escape is still to small for me personally and feels like it rides so much lower to the ground than my Edge. I will say the 1.5 L Ecoboost Four feels powerful enough but the Escape is much lighter than the Edge.

On the whole I do think this will be a much shorter stay at the service department, but I do like this Escape better than the last one. Also the Magnetic paint color and the black wheels on the Sport Appearance Package make the car look really sharp.

I will do if I get a good invoice back. I really thought about just telling my service advisor leave the APIM alone and how much it would cost for them to install a sync 3 module new screen and the new USB hubs if I purchased everything and brought it to them while they have the car. I really don't want the cost of that right now and sync 2 will most likely be smoother after the new APIM is installed.

Got an update yesterday on the Edge. The oil leaks have been fixed. Unfortunately they have installed the new APIM and they are having trouble programming it. My service advisor mentioned that they had sent a request to the Ford Technical Support and they probably would not here back from them until the afternoon of the 14th. Still haven't heard anything today, but I really didn't think the APIM would be what caused the longer stay I figured it would be the oil leaks. Oh well I guess I will just wait patiently.

I figure it is time to give an update. Got a call from the dealer on Tuesday the 20th stating that they got the APIM to program finally and when they were giving the car a final test drive upon parking they noticed oil still leaking (about fifteen minutes before they closed). They determined it was from some crankcase seals and the parts were ordered on Wednesday to see if they had the parts in stock before they ordered them. They still haven't arrived as of Friday close of business. I am still in the Escape which while yes I do love Sync 3 I do miss some of the connivence features of my car like the remote start, keyless ignition, power lift gate, BAMR, and of course integrated navigation. I will say the Escape gets better mileage. I am averaging about 23 mpg in the city on my Edge I normally average 21 or so mpg. Also auto start stop is such a mixed bag. I know it is engineered to work but I logically can't see how it doesn't kill the starter super early. But I do think it helps with mileage.

Good News I Got my Edge back today :) Everything seem well with one small exception that I will discuss with my service advisor in the morning. The MFT seems to be very smooth and of course I don't see any oil leaking. The small complaint comes from the fact that they didn't put back the face plate on the usb/sd card/line in ports. I didn't notice it until after they had already closed. It is funny how we become so babied by our car. I really missed my power lift gate and the Sony sound system sounds so much better than the one in the Escape. I also love having remote start back. I will put a new post probably this Friday when I have the day off with a redacted copy of the service report on what was replaced with the oil leaks but it good to have my baby back with me. :love_shower:

I will say although my edge seems to have had more problems than others it is still the favorite car of all of the cars in my immediate family including an Audi A3 and an F-250 with the power stroke. I will say my sister-in-laws new to them CX-5 now does place second finally knocking off the A3. I just hope I can keep the car without it bankrupting me after the warranty runs out.
