Changed the cabin filter

Recommended Posts

got my edge early march 2016 so this is the 3rd season of pine pollen, thought it time to change the cabin filter. Not too difficult, released the catch tabs on the glove box and then the limit link to expose the housing behind the dash. Two screws to remove, made sure to use a magnetic tip screwdriver and then open the filter housing. Filter was fairly dirty. replaced with fram fresh scent.

Old filter on the left.

With the 2011 MKX, I tried several makes and also with/without charcoal, in all cases the airflow was affected except with K&N's. This is tested using my sense of feeling & sound of blower/airflow. In other words, nothing scientific. But good catch WWWPerfA_ZN0W noticing the difference in pleats.

Yea, I'm not a fan of Fram products, but that's all I could find. The OEM has at least twice the number of pleats. It was really dirty, surprised really since I only have 15000 miles on the Edge. Next time I'll probably get a K&N or the OEM at the dealer.

I buy mine on Amazon. Cheaper and better selection. Normally I buy the ATP brand with carbon. Couple of years ago I went with OEM. On my filter, I didn't see any difference in number of pleats over aftermarket.

I'll give them a try next time - https://www.amazon.com/automotive-FA-21-Carbon-Activated-Premium/dp/B01IW17N3U/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1521401090&sr=1-1&keywords=atp+cabin+air+filter+fa-21
