Bob Onit Posted October 17, 2018 Report Share Posted October 17, 2018 Hi all. My check engine light came on about 10 days ago on my 2010 Limited. Code was 1071 which indicates Bank 1 lean. From the research I've done the 1071 usually goes hand in hand with the 1074 (Bank 2 lean) which is often a vacuum leak so I'm kind of scratching my head here why only Bank 1 is lean. I cleared the code and it hasn't come up again but the fuel mileage is suffering a little.. I'd be very grateful to the forum members with any information or experience with this issue.. $100 per hour adds up quick. Thanks. Bob. mike dexter Posted October 17, 2018 Report Share Posted October 17, 2018 Bob, either too little fuel or too much air. I am sure there are more possible causes, but here you go... Too little fuel: problem with fuel pump, fuel filter Too much air: leaks in the air intake tubing, vacuum lines, clips not fastened in air cleaner box, dipstick not pushed all the way in, PCV valve stuck open P0171 is the correct code BTW. I dont have much on service records but the top end is super clean so I'd guess it had regular oil changes. Just turned 91,k miles. I have a pit in my garage so I'll change the fuel filter (I''m guessing it's on one of the frame rails) and I'll also do whatever else I can do before I have to take it in for the professionals.
