Toyota Venza

Recommended Posts

Looks pretty nasty. They totally and completely ripped off the EDGE. The front looks like a stretched out version of the EDGE's, and even the greenhouse is exactly like the EDGE's. Good thing to note is, the Venza "crossover sedan" is flopping on the lots. They did it wil the Camry(Ford Taurus ripoff), but it's not working with the Venza.

My wife and I actually test drove the Venza and Edge back-to-back this past weekend. We took the obligatory 10 minute ride in each with the salesmen in the back, and then took each out without the salemen for about an hour on some roads we were more familiar with.

I won't discuss the looks too much as they are very subjective betwen people. The rear quarter of the Venza was more "sculpted" than the Egde, however the grille looks like somebody used an Edge grill and then placed it in the oven and melted it.

The interior of the Venza was better looking in my opinion. The materials and textures looked and felt much more upscale than in the Egde.

We both thought the seats in the Edge were more comfortable than the Venza. Interior room and cargo in both cars was similar.

What turned us off about the Venza was the ride. It was surprisingly stiff for a Toyota. Especially one that seems geared towards older buyers, as some reviews have suggested. We were looking for a car that would be my wife's daily driver and our vehicle for longer trips and vacations, as well as some light camper towing. We also wanted room for kids in a couple of years. Both would work fine for what we need, but the Edge won us over.

We ultimately bought a 2008 left over Edge limited on Monday and we are very happy so far. It's AWD, so I'll be keeping a look out for the PTU issues that have been posted here.

From what I've seen of the forum so far, this looks like agreat place for info.

Numerous reviews in the WSJ, Chicago Trib and the local paper have all panned the Venza. All reviewers commented on poor workmanship and mediocre ride. They also thought the price was way too high. An early review also commented on the workmanship issues so apparently Toyota still hasn't fixed their quality problem.

First sight on the Venza and I thought it looked great--- I had a Toyota Sienna and hated the damn thing because there was no way for me to get comfortable on a long trip. The seats were very uncomfortable in comparison with my old Windstar.

I did test drive the Venza and found it to be just as uncomfortable as the Sienna. The window ledge is too high, the door arm rest is too low, the center arm rest is a joke as is what they call a tilt & telescope steering wheel.

I also looked at the Edge at the same auto show and after sitting in it for a couple of minutes, had to go drive it at a dealer. At the time I wasn't ready to trade, but I always plan a year or so ahead--- The Edge was very comfortable. Everything was the right height and in the right place and the price was a little easier to swallow. My last concern was how the dealer treated me--- The Toyota dealer was excellent--- but, after talking to the Ford dealer, so are they now!

The only feature I liked better in the Toyota was the cruise control switches, but the Ford's are livable---

I am currently shopping for a new crossover and the Venza was the first one I looked at. I think it looks great, and I test drove it twice. The first time was fine, but the second time I started to see some problems:

- Noisy Interior

-Closed in feeling inside

-That sculpted rear quarter also leads to huge blindspot issues

So, considering the price and the fact that its a first year car, I've crossed it off my list. The edge is still on my list. I was pleasantly surprised by it when I drove it. I do think it is selling pretty well, you will see dealers (atleast in my area) never offer any serious incentives, and most dealers i talked to say it is selling well.

The wife and I drove a 2010 Venza over the weekend after driving an Edge. The Toyota, although rated very close hp and tq wise with the v6, was ALOT more responsive than the Edge is. IMO the Venza offered alot more cargo room than the Edge does. The Venza did ride firmer and I attribute that to the 20" wheels that it has. The interior in the Venza we thought was of a better quality than the Edge also....so why did I buy the Edge? I think overall quality with Ford is right on par with the top competitors, I got a smoking deal on our Edge, I didn't want 20" wheels, The exterior of the Edge looks alot nicer and the seats are definetely more comfortable and I own Ford stock so I thought I may as well pay myself to buy a new vehicle.

I had an '08 Edge LTD AWD on a three year lease. At the end of three years and 146,000 kms (90,700 miles) it was time for another vehicle. I thought I'd try out the Venza, something similar but different. After a test drive, is was not impressed. Although it drove fine and had a nice ride, all I could say was that it was a "nice" car. I didn't think it had any personality and definitely offereed no excitment. In the end, I ended up buying a 2011 Edge LTD. I loved my '08 and the '11 looks to be even better.

I think I might of ruined some sales this past weekend at our local toyota dealership. I parked our brand new white ford edge sport in front of the front doors of the dealership while we walked in to look at the highlander for my wife. With my dealer plates still attached people walked around my truck in the parking lot before and after walking into the dealership. When one of the salesman made a smart remark about my ford edge I offered to take him for a test ride that would blow him away. He declined, saying he's not interested. I made sure to tell him that he should be very interested in the competition because the competition is very strong, and that I wouldn't trade my edge for any other SUV. I guess we'll have to find a new toyota dealership now.
