MKX going in to the shop

Our '07 MKX with 30,000 miles is getting an appt to go into the dealer to check out what I think is a bad rear wheel bearing. Over the past week it has developed a "humming" noise while driving that goes up and down with vehicle speed. Kinda like the humming sound a truck makes when it has mud tires on it or if you were to hold a twig against a bicycle wheel/spokes while riding fast. I have isolated the noise to the right rear and would assume it is a bad wheel bearing but not sure. Not a tire noise. It has 2 month old Michelin tires on it and the noise was not there before last week. I'll keep you posted to what we find out. Thank god for warranty!! The MKX is only FWD so that should make their job much easier.

Yup. It goes in Wed. Judging by all the posts I've read on here and other places that is exactly what it is. Hopefully the dealer doesn't try to give us any runaround on the warranty work although they've been very good to us in the past. I've replaced wheel bearings/hub assemblies in other vehicles before and it is a pretty simple job but since it's under warranty I'm not doing it! I'm kinda leery of the other folks on here who have had multiple wheel bearings go bad on the same vehicle but hopefully that doesn't occur with ours.

Well....Day 1 of dealer service aggrivation. Had an appointment to bring the vehicle in at 9am. Wife dropped it off, service manager said they would have it done today no problem. No one had called by 4:30 this afternoon so she called and they told her that they would not be able to look at it until tomorrow...wasn't that the whole idea of an appointment? She had made sure to inform the guy this morning when she dropped it off that she would need a vehicle to get to work tomorrow and the guy said no problem and if for some reason they couldn't get it done that they would loan her a vehicle. Now, he tells her that they don't have any vehicles to loan. It is a very large dealer with literally hundreds of new and used vehicles and they have none to loan? Keep in mind this is the same guy she talked to this morning so she wasn't very thrilled to say the least. So after being on hold for 10 minutes the guy gets back on and says they will take her to Enterprise to rent a vehicle. I guess I should be happy with the fact they are at least renting us a vehicle but I dread having to take anything into a dealer for service because it ALWAYS results in a bunch of runaround and people not following through with what they say they will do. Ranting done for today...

Day 2:

Ā

They finally got around to looking at it today and finally called about 3pm to tell us they don't have the part in stock, will have to be ordered from another dealer and will be in tomorrow. Has to stay there tonight again. Wonder if they'll actually get it done tomorrow?

Ā

We did get a 2010 Ford Fusion as a free rental but it is the 4-cyl. It has 21,000 miles already!! Also, the change oil notification is on and it shows one percent of oil life remaining. Poor car. Rentals lead a rough life.

Super old thread... Lol Hey I'll chime in... I replaced our left rear wheel bearing last year. They're pretty notorious for going bad. I wanna say we had 65-70K miles when it started humming which gradually got louder over time until it turned into more of a grinding sound. They're kind of tricky to replace. We had to modify a torx impact bit to get it out and replaced.
