ignition taking a while to turn over

Recommended Posts

I have a 2010 Ford Edge and have noticed an intermitent problem when starting. Usually it starts right up, but sometimes after the engine is warm and I have parked for about 20 minutes or so I go to start the car and it takes a few more seconds for the engine to turn over. It is really hard to describe but don't think this is normal. Has anyone else experienced this? I have been using high Octane gas in it, I don't know if this could be doing it.

First off, stop using the high octane fuel as it is doing absolutely nothing for your vehcle and is only draining your wallet. Now when you say takes a while to turn over do you mean that when you turn the key the engine doesn't crank or you turn the key, the engine cranks but takes a few seconds to start....

The engine cranks and will turn over but takes a while. I read in the manual that high octane gas is not good for the engine it is designed for regular gas and could cause starting, knocking and running rough. I should of read this before hand. I hope this is all it is the tank is almost empty and going to go back to 87. I also notice sometimes when going into reverse or drive it goes into gear hard. I spoke with someone else with the same year edge and she is feeling the same thing. I am going to try to find out if there is any TCB's about that problem. Other than that it runs great. Getting ready to take a 13 hour road trip and the starting issue is making me a little nervous.

For the extended cranking issue my first thought is a fuel pump issue. There is a check valve in the fule pump that prevents fuel from backflowing into the tank when the vehicle is shut off so it starts faster. A fuel pressure test is in order to see what is happenign when the vehicle is shut off.
