rpms but slow movement

2008 SEL - Any thoughts on this occurrence would be appreciated:

Today I slowed down on the main road to turn into into my driveway. I was moving pretty slow when I entered the driveway so I slightly pushed on the gas to drive up to the garage and to my surprise the tach was revving up but the Edge was just barely moving forward. I looked down at the gear shift as I thought it slipped into neutral or something...? I could rev the engine but the Edge just barely moved forward.I put it in reverse and then Drive again and it came back to normal. I had this same thing happen a month ago but I thought it was just some kind of low gear shift change or something. It's funny that it has only only occurred twice under the same situation: I slow down on the main road to turn into the drive....then push on the gas slightly and the tach revs but the car barely moves forward. It would be as if you're on an ice rink trying to accelerate. I have 32K miles on the SEL...has been a gem up unto this occurrence...?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Andy

I believe your problem is the transmission valve body. The valve body is the control center of the automatic transmission. It contains a maze of channels and passages that direct hydraulic fluid to the numerous valves which then activate the appropriate clutch pack or band servo to smoothly shift to the appropriate gear for each driving situation. Each of the many valves in the valve body has a specific purpose and is named for that function. For example the 2-3 shift valve activates the 2nd gear to 3rd gear up-shift or the 3-2 shift timing valve which determines when a downshift should occur.

This problem occurred in our Edge. I took a week to repair because they got the wrong parts.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I stopped by Ford and the Trans mechanic explained it's a rare occurrence and only had heard of this one other time. He reset a chip to default code (not sure which one)....have not had any problems since. Of course this only happened twice in 2/half years but both times in the last month.

Question: Did Ford replace your trans valve body? Curious if they mentioned anything that may have caused this in your car...?

Thanks -
