Loose driver seat

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I just purchased a used 2008 edge. The driver seat seems to be a bit loose. When you accellerate the seat feels like it tips back a bit. Has anyone had this issue and know the fix?

I have a 2011 Edge Limited and mine does the same thing. Have taken it to the dealer and everything is tight. I have read that this is a Ford "thing'........

I purchased a used 2010 Limited last Monday (13 June) and am experiencing exactly the same thing. Driver's seat sways and squeaks when the vehicle sways or I shift my weight. It is getting worse each day. Glad to know the dealer can fix it.

Me too. My 2011 Edge LImited driver seat is starting to rock. I also had the exact same problem with my 08 Edge Ltd., 99 Explorer Eddie Bauer and 91 Explorer XLT. Bad design that appearantly never got corrected.

Same here - 08 Edge, 99 Expedition and 97 Explorer. I don't understand it either. Never had that problem with the 03 Aviator though (just everything else).

There have been threads on this topic before as it is a known issue with Ford driver seats for years. My 91 and 99 Explorers did this as well as my 08 and 11 Edge's. The dealer does the same thing in my case. It has to do with the chepaness of the seat frame. Nonetheless it is not a good feeling in the seat of your pants. The fix may or may not work as they will just use an identical seat frame replacement or may just tighten some bolts. The problem is really more common than you think though. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Ours isn't loose but we have a squeaky drivers seat belt. I keep trying to get the dealer to replace it since nothing they do fixes it but I have had no luck in getting a resolution with them. I may just buy the part myself and do it to save my own sanity.

I have a 2010 Edge Sport & I have the seat rocking issue as well. I happen to be in the seating business as a tier 2 for lumbars. My customer is Ford direct. While speaking the one of their Engineering Mgrs there about this, it's the durability & quality of the seat tracks. They refer to it as seat 'chuck' when it has excessive play that causes rocking feeling. It's also dependant if you have a power or manual seat track. I think the problem was worse on the Power tracks.

Magna in Mississauga Ont builds these seats. That Eng Mgr told me they updated their testing specs sometime in 2010 to help try & solve this issue.

I'm going to approach the dealer first to get it fixed & see what happens. If nothing, then move onto Magna &/or Ford Engineering. It's not acceptable...that's for sure!

Ask them why it's been happening since at least the mid 90s. Had the problem first on a 97 explorer and several SUVs/CUVs since then. You'd think 16 years is long enough to fix it permanently.

OP, yes, right side of driver seat back. Luckily I have the Extended warranty.

Never mind about the waranty, they say they can't duplicate it. Pin heads.

I told them they have to brake hard then accelerate hard. Maybe they had a problem stopping it quickly, but I know it takes off great most of the time

I just purchased a 2010 Edge from Lakeshore Ford in Ludington Michigan, this issue was noted at the time of purchase and the dealer agreed to take care of it. This was reported to the salesman, service manage and owner of the dealership.

They said their shop was booked for a couple of weeks so to call for an appointment after that. When I tried I never got a return call and request to the sales people yielded no response. I finally just made an appointment for service at the service desk. After identifying the seat problem the service manager said I would have to pay for the repair because the seat was OK when I bought the car, he either has a terrible memory or is a liar. If you do business there you do so at your own risk because they obviously have no intention of keeping their word. Now I discover that this is a common problem with the Edge. So much for integrity for the manufacturer or the dealer.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Did you have the issue put down in writing at time of sale? Same service manager? The seat issue may be on Ford, but the service issue is entirely on that dealer, IMHO. You could talk to Ford Customer Service (they are on this forum), not sure how they could help if you don't have a written backup though.

I bought a brand new leftover MKX in June and it does the exact same thing.

I was going to bring it back to the dealer but they can't even fix the obvious issues. I just picked my car up today from the dealership for a HORRIBLE air noise coming from upper part of the driver side door and the guy told me it was normal. I was really mad. I am actually thinking of trading it for a Hyundai Santa Fe. My wife has one and it is spectacular compared to my MKX
