Care for black paint on 2009 Edge

Soon to have a 2009 Edge with black exterior. I live in cold snowy winters and hot summers. So I am loooking for suggestions for cleaners, machine polishes, paint protectors, waxes to use and protect the finsh. Sometimes I don't have to time to wax or clean regularly (regularly is every two weeks or less), so I am loking for a long lasting protection. Anyone have solutions. Open to anything out there.

Why not try reading the many threads already posted on this subject in this forum? A sealant will last longer than a carnauba wax. Other than that it's just personal preference.

Thanks for the heads up. Searched and found them. Although, I beleive the threads would apply to any paint color. Was looking for specific suggestions for black vehicles, if there are any.

I did a friends black 2002 Town car, used Maguires cleaner & wax, came out great. Then toped it off with Nano Diamond Shield (.COM). Used it on the MKS 4 months ago, still beading up like it waas done yesterday.

By the waym where the hell is Wapakoneta near ???

There is no difference between paint colors. Protection is protection, shine is shine. Black just shows swirl marks more easily.

It sure does show it a lot better! My brother brought home his black Audi A6 yesterday and I almost fell over with all the swirls on there.

 

To the OP, if you want an easy regimen, try Ultima Paint Guard Plus. Its a sealant that will last a few months on average and takes about 15 minutes to put on a clean Edge (Has to be uber clean)

I live in Michigan and have tried many different brands of wax over the years. So far, Zaino seems to protect the longest for me so I've been using it for the last 6 years.. Not a big fan of the high cost but the durability is worth it to me.

Dodo Juice makes several flavors of carnauba waxes. You pick the flavor based on the color of your paint.

For dark paint, there is "Purple Haze" or "Blue Velvet"

I live in Windsor, Ont, which is just across the river from Detroit, MI. So I get the same climate as you do. I also detail professionally on the side. What you need is a nano coating which is easy to apply and will give you long protection. Nano coatings are cutting edge in paint protection. Waxes and sealants are not in the same league whatsoever!! I will give you links to 2. CQuartz is what I have on my MKX and I am putting it on my wife's new Durango this week. It is stupid easy to use and lasts for years. The 2nd CQ link will be where to get it. Get the kit with the mf and applicator, IMO it does a better job spreading it. I will also provide another link to a 2nd nano product which I have not used personally, but it has been highly recommended.

Another thing I'll suggest, and you can take it or leave it, is join Live2detail.com. It is a detailing forum on which I am a Board of Director. We are the ONLY detailing forum on the web that is not sponsored or run by a product manufacturer. It is privately owned. You will get unbiased reviews of many products from guys who share what has worked for them as well as what has not. It is a fun place. There is also a chatbox that opens up to you once you hit 100 posts. A few from here have already joined. I know we have members from both Michigan and Ohio on there. My username on there is Richy.

I am also going to be testing a spray on nano coating this week probably and will be posting up a review of it on L2D. It will not last as long as the others, but is great for things like the barrels of wheels and motorcycles and sounds like it will be a good maintenance product. I am also beta testing using members of L2D 2 different nano sealants at this time as well. Lots going on in this field right now, it's very exciting!!

If it needs it, yes. You are locking in the paint at whatever condition it is currently in. It should help (especially the CQ) to cut way down on wash-induced swirls too.

Talking strictly carnubas, a couple of fantastic ones formulated for darker colours are Natty's Blue from Poorboys World and Dodo Juice's Blue Velvet or Purple Haze. Natty's Blue, especially at the price, is one of the best carnubas for darker colours. The Dodo juice is a little more expensive but are exceptional carnubas.

So what is the difference, in scientific terms? Have you done a A/B test to compare them side by side on the same vehicle? I find it hard to believe there is any noticeable difference although I certainly don't doubt that some product mfr would claim that.

In scientific terms, different coloured oils are added to different waxes. For example, coconut oil is widely used in waxes for lighter coloured vehicles whereas montan wax which is jet black is used frequently in waxes formulated for darker colours.

 

I have every version of Dodo Juice’s soft waxes for my business and after doing some tests last year on my own vehicle I can definitely tell the difference. I used both Orange Crush and Light Fantastic on the hood of my red S2000 and I could clearly tell the difference. Was the difference between the two night and day? No, but the side with the Orange Crush certainly had a deeper, glossier red look to it. The subtle difference using a carnuba formulated to your colour of vehicle is well worth it IMO.

I actually think that the average person would notice the difference. The issue is that virtually everyone doesn't do a side by side comparison to actually see the difference. What you don't see you don't know.

That's what I meant. If you did one wax job with regular carnauba then did the next one with the tinted carnauba do you think the owner would notice the difference?

Wapakoneta, Ohio is the hometown of Apollo 11 Astronaut, Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon. It is in west central Ohio area, right along I-75.

Unless something new has come out, Zaino is what I've been using for years as well. The more coats you put on the more of a "wet" look you get. I found Zaino products by searching Corvette forums to see what those guys used since they are probably more particular than us.
