2007 Orange Edge Review

I bought my 07 new in September of 07.

Pros:

Great looks

Overall fit, finish and quality pretty good.

Paint quality-not so good.

Stereo-Better than I thought it would be.

Seats, controls etc, very comfortable.

Gas Mileage-Better than expected. 25 mpg on the highway suprised the heck out of me.

Tire wear, and brake pad wear very good.

Goes like heck in the snow.

Cons:

Drivers seat has a small clunk. Just enough to be annoying.

PTO seal has a slight leak, and I have given up on it. I wipe it down every time the Edge is on ramps, and clean the area with brake clean. By doing this 3 or 4 times a year, it keeps it clean, with no smell.

Smoked the PCM, coil packs, and sparkplugs at 44,000 miles. $1500 to fix it myself. Ouch!

Brake rotors warped at about 5,000 miles, giving me a mild "thump, thump" with every stop.

Transmission shifting-not as smooth as most cars.

Muffler hangers keep bagging out, causing the exhaust to settle, and rattle a little.

Until the recent $1500 PCM/Coil failure, I would recommend this vehicle. But Google has shown it to be a common problem on the Ford Edge, as well as many other Ford cars and trucks. Because Ford wont help some of their customers (some they will), I would not feel comfortable giving this vehicle a strong thumbs up. I would give it a C minus.

Just to update the thread:

After a many month battle, Ford did refund my money for the coil/pcm repair.

The new pcm received the latest programming, and this greatly improved the transmission shifting.

It is much more enjoyable to drive.

The PTO seal eventually did start to leak excessively, and wiping it down every oil change was not an option.

I did install the updated seal kit (which included a support spacer).

In order to solve the muffler insulator sagging situation, I lightly clamped hose clamps around them. This way they maintain their shape, and still do their job of dampening vibrations.

Because the trans shifts better, I would upgrade my rating to a B minus.

I used to love my 2007 Edge, I got great gas mileage, it is easy to handle. the fabric seats are difficult to clean, is there a specific product to use? and the PCM/coil failure is the most distressing. I have been awaiting a rebuilt part for two months and now have to resort to the new part and its exorbitant price, which just may go up again. since this is such a wide spread and can cause driving hazards, why hasn't there been a recall for the affected years (which seem to be 2007 and 2008)?

I've had my 2007 edge and I said the same thing to the dealership. If ford knows it's a problem why don't they recall them. I bought it on the 30th of November 2012. 12/26 Bad PCM replaced still under warranty 1/9/14. Coil fail and PCM replaced again. Caused a Converter to burn up. This time I had to pay for it. Last repair was a fan assembly which at this point I wonder if wasn't the chief contributor to these problems to begin with. I never noticed the fan since I bought it coming on at all until I got it replaced. But I love my car Really like it. But if it happens again good bye.
