Edge is dead

Own 2011 Edge Sport for few months only, went through numerous troubles/issues all has been sorted out except ............Real trouble did occur/happen last night, car won't start at all.Upon opening driver's door, alarm went and sounded on for minute or two and lights will flash for few more minutes after alarm went off.Instrument cluster was lit with pale blueish light and only thing you can see there was count of kilometers /miles in left bottom corner and speedometer .MFT screen came on as well and its features will actually work as it suppose to but main thing was that engine does not start at all.I try reset system via MFT,pulling all sort of plugs and connectors/fuses but to no avail, car just refuse to cooperate.Car will lock and unlock normally but that is just about what you can get out of her.Battery has been replaced,i.e. additional power source was added via jump start cables ,nothing helps.I try reset system via USB port wit latest software patch but as I said nothing came out of this effort.Wile doing this ,screen says there is 1/one bad file.I'm getting frustrated that such beautiful car perform this poorly, this is truly incomprehensible for me.Will greatly appreciate guys your advice since local Ford dealers know about car less then I do ,there is added urgency to this since this happen on the trip to neighboring country,so we left car behind to spent Christmas rather other way then try resuscitate Ford on the parking lot with little knowledge how to do it.

Problem solved,we took nearly all car apart since diagnostics were not of much help at all.All modules were alright, all parameters as well,we put it back together and she fires right up.Not happy though because we still do not have idea what cause all this trouble.Fact is though that it helps a lot to subscribe for few days to www.motorcraftservice.com,tons of information, you must be stupid not to be able fix your car if you follow guidelines,I wish all manufacturers have website like this, well maybe they do not need it ,they simply build solid cars.So far car is actually very economic ride, drives only two days a week and stays in the our workshop for rest of it.Beautiful shape, perfect drive but constant disaster considering reliability,Murphy 's laws ( all of them) apply all over the Edge.

Well the MFT wouldn't keep the car from running. I know that for sure since many times ours doesn't come on. But when you say it doesn't start do you hear anything? Any CEL Lights?

Thanx for quick reply mate.......no CEL light at all since instrument panel is lit with solid blue light, only speedometer and mileage count is visible otherwise nothing at all. There is no noise from starter relay, car is absolutely quiet. You can turn on/off radio, adjust climate controls but that's it.Any ideas please?

Not positive on this but I think the CEL is independent of the extended MFT displays. But if you don't hear anything I would start looking at fuses for the starter. Until you get that trying to crank her over you'll never know there is anything else.

I'm going to look for basics as fuses and relays as well as hook up diagnostics after holiday period is over, this will tell us lot I hope.Funny thing is that display/instrument panel,I mean way it is lit ,maybe immobilizer in on?I thought for minute to shortcut starter to get her going but it might do some damage to CAN BUS or else so Iwill try gather as much ideas from you guys and try sort out then what's going on.

Could be immobilizer and maybe that explains why the alarm was sounded before you put the key in. Maybe someone tried to steal it and it is in some weird state now? Never heard of that before but maybe disconnecting the battery will help clear it. I know one of the suggestions for the MFT issues is to pull the battery cables and touch them together for a few seconds to discharge all energy in the system. Can't see that it would hurt things here...though you may want to try to read codes first.

Probably immobilizer, all symptoms are there, and yes attempted theft ,that's what I was thinking first as well .You are spot on so far.I did disconnect battery as first thing and shortcut cable terminals to get all conductivity out of system, did pull world famous fuse 29 ,nothing helps so far.

Sorry man...don't have any experience with this but did find one person on another forum that mentioned something similar with an older Ford....some suggested he lock and unlock the vehicle with the key then try again. Can't imagine it would do anything but I guess it is a two second test. Hope you get this sorted.

Did you say the battery HAS been replaced?

This does not mean “i.e. additional power source was added via jump start cables” you took the old battery out of the car?

Do you have a volt meter?

You should have more than 12.0 volts!

12.4 would be about right.

At first we use jump cables ,other car battery has similar capacity/power and other car was running so there was more then enough power available for Edge. This did not help so we replace battery completely(it wasn't really necessary) with same result,no start.Everything else is working, locks, lights, fans, radio, power windows but engine......

Have you tried a different key? It sounds like either the PATS system doesn't recognize the key or the instrument cluster is hosed. Did you check all of the fuses including the ones under the hood?

Kirby I try second key as well,no difference, but I'm going to check everything from ground up tomorrow again,we left Edge in another place because we were in hurry to get home for Christmas so there was really time just do basics try or two and leave... Puzzled is the proper word, hopefully it is going to be something banal and stupid like fuse or relay. My other car is 1993 Miata MX5,210 000 miles on the clock ,she never failed, not a single time, water pump has been changed once due to small leak, that was it,she is my daily drive.Another car in garage ( mostly :) ) is 2007 Jaguar XK8 with 25 K on the clock, not a single issue till now.Having said this,I must quote that not all Japs are paramount of perfection though MX5 certainly is in my opinion, someone should take notice.Jaguar, while excellent car is actually well known for plenty of reliability issues, not to mention that Jaguar already for quite some time uses Ford technology what actually makes them better cars since Ford bought them out in '87 . Appreciate your help guys :)
