    2019 Edge Low Speed Surge/Buck

Lann, Please post the TSB number you are having done on your vehicle. TSB 19-2313 is dated 16 October 2019 so it may be different from the one you are referring to.

That's positive news on TSB 19-2313. Please let us know the results. I received a call from Ford Dispute Resolution today. We discussed the problem and I provided all the previous documentation via email the person calling. Will be interesting to hear what will happen.

JohnnyB, Sorry to hear you are yet another Edge owner with transmission issues. Though I doubt it will help, you did correctly by talking to service and contacting Ford Customer Care. Here is an update on my issue. Near the end of September I mailed an extensive document package to William Clay Ford Jr., Executive Chairman, Jim Hackett, President and CEO, and Dave Filipe, President of Powertrain Engineering. The documentation included a cover letter explaining the issue with the 2019 Edge. It also included copies of my three service visits and this forum post from start to mid September. Several weeks later I received an email from Brad Simmons, Ford's Director of Community Outreach. Below is his email. Dear Richard, Your letter to Bill Ford has been forwarded to our office for reply. Please know that we do care about the ongoing problem you are having with your 2019 Ford Edge and understand that you are disappointed with the service you have received thus far. I have personally forwarded your letter to the manager of our Customer Service team requesting a review of the matter. A member of the team will be in touch with you as soon as possible. We truly hope this problem can be resolved to your satisfaction and that you will remain a member of our extended Ford family for many years to come. Our warmest good wishes to you. Brad Simmons Director, Community Outreach | Office of the Executive Chairman | Ford Motor Company After several weeks of no contact by the Customer Service Team I emailed Mr. Simmons and asked for assistance. As of today I have not received a reply from him nor have I received any contact by Customer Care. I will also mention that I have not received any contact from Jim Hackett or Dave Filipe. Should you decide to do the same, and I recommend you do, here is the contact information I used. Ford Motor Company 1 American Rd. Dearborn, MI 48126 Attention: William Clay Ford Jr., Executive Chairman Jim Hackett, President and Chief Executive Officer Dave Filipe, Vice President Powertrain Engineering

    2019 Edge Low Speed Surge/Buck

Well guys I have nothing good to report. As noted above, my visit to a third dealer service department gained nothing. A week or so later the service department did real back to me Ford's answer to their TAC case. Not quoting but essentially "Tell the customer what they are experiencing is normal". I asked for a copy of Ford's reply but have not been given one. Not sure what else to do.

Not questioning your thought but if it was as simple as calibrating the PCM/TCM, why hasn't any of the three service departments I have had the vehicle at tried that fix? They also claimed to have talked to Ford. I still cannot understand why service departments say "it's normal operation".

After a week in the service department, here's what was written on the service ticket. "Normal operation at this time. Set up TAC case with Ford. Waiting on response from Ford on TAC case. When Ford notifies us will contact customer." "Test drove vehicle and verified customer concern. Felt issue as customer described. Took readings from like vehicle and compared to customers. All normal at this time. Transmission shift logic's compar ......…" ? That is all I know at this time. Tech's write up stopped so I don't know what else was written. Will try to find out. Here is how I read it. Tech confirmed what I described the vehicle is doing. Compared to another like vehicle. It was doing the same. All or most Edges have the same problem. Ford has not provided service departments with information on similar issues so tech filed a TAC (?) with Ford. Waiting for Ford to respond. Anyone know what a TAC is? How long do customers wait to receive an update?

None yet. I have another service appointment for this Tuesday. Will update with results.
  8. Hello to all. Recently purchased a 2019 Edge. Noticed an issue with the air temperature from the rear seating air vent. Using a digital laser thermometer air temp at the rear seating vent is 15 -20 warmer when climate control is set to AC. In cooling mode the air feels warm compared to the air exiting the front vents. Any ideas why? Sure seems like a problem. Thanks.

Made contact with my third dealership service department. Spoke to the service manager. He actually came here and read all the posts on this thread. Encouraging. Next step is to schedule a service visit. Might be a delay but will post results.

Well, this is getting worse with each new post. Looks like I'll be printing out this whole thread and hand to the tech at my next service appointment.

I suspect akirby is referring to a similar issue with the Edge ST. Here's a link to the ST post. Page five has a service record from Fingernip showing replacement of the torque converter. https://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/26544-poor-trans-shifting-theory-investigation/?page=5

Thanks. I will definitely do that on my next visit. Just printed out your service record.

Well maybe Ford will now have time to find a fix for the non ST Edges. My Titanium is such a disappointment to drive with the slow speed bucking.

Still no resolution from Ford. I am still in contact with Customer Care but receiving replies from them is difficult. I call and leave emails but it takes a week for them to answer. Will be scheduling my third service visit at yet another dealer. Another hour + drive. Difficult to find one knowledgeable of this problem and interested in fixing it.

Apparently Ford needs a completely new transmission engineering team. Titanium and SEL's are also having transmission issues.

Appears the number of affected owners is growing. I'm still working with Customer Care trying to get this elevated. It does not appear Customer Care has any direct access to Engineering. Only way for Engineering to be involved is by dealer service departments contacting them and requesting assistance. Hopefully the repeated requests for warranty service on this issue may help. It is frustrating when the impression is you are imagining or making up the issue since Ford designed the vehicle to buck or surge and is "normal operation". I'm not giving up. I hope you don't either. Open a case with Customer Care and make those repeat visits for warranty repair.

Same with my Titanium. The bucking is always there but most noticeable on first drive in the am. PLEASE call Ford Customer Care at 800-392-3673 and open a case on your concern To my knowledge the PCM update referenced above is for the ST, not SEL or Titanium. There is a forum thread on the ST issue and the TSB here:

From my experience this is like the proverbial fingers pointed at the other. Service departments say it's normal operation. No diagnostic codes and nothing from Ford telling them it's a problem or how to fix it.. Ford says it's up to the service department to determine if it's an issue. They are the ones trained by Ford to repair the vehicle. Question is, are the service departments passing this information to Ford? On warranty work, does some department at Ford review service ticket for possible issues such as this one?

    2019 Edge Low Speed Surge/Buck

That is how adaptive learning was explained to me by service. The point that irritates me is everyone at Ford saying a vehicle that bucks/surges is normal. Ford designed the Edge with 8F35 to operate that way. Even though other 2019 Ford vehicles do not. I've been to two different Ford service departments and both say the same. It's normal operation.

    2019 Edge Low Speed Surge/Buck

On my second visit to service I did request the tech take a portable computer along while I drove the vehicle. The tech did experience the issue but said it was normal operation for the vehicle. He did reset the transmission adaptive learning. It may have initially helped a bit but the vehicle still bucks/surges between 15 - 20 mph. I had an open ticket with Ford Customer Care but it was closed after my last service visit which fixed nothing. I made them reopen it. I'm not giving up. There is an issue with the Edge transmission and Ford needs to fix it.

See my reply to your post below. I had a 2019 Escape loaner vehcile. Much more enjoyable drive than my Titanium :

    2019 Edge Low Speed Surge/Buck

Hi Susie, Refreshing that I am not the only person here with this problem. I had my vehicle at different Ford service department this week. This will also be my fourth visit to service. Vehicle was kept for a week. Techs said they could not duplicate the problem. Stated on the ticket it was "normal operation" for this vehicle. According to the service manager they have had other 2019 Edges in for the same problem. He did contact Ford and was told the 2019 Edge 8F35 transmission is new. Has some type of adaptive learning system. ? I guess Ford is hoping the transmission will fix itself after learning your driving habits. Currently there are no service bulletins on the 2019 Edge 8F35 transmission. To your question, I believe that TSB is for the Edge ST. The Edge Titanium has a different transmission, the 8F35. Not sure about your SEL. I highly recommend you call Ford Customer Care at 800-392-3673 and open a case on your concern. They should be able to tell you which transmission is in your SEL.
  23. Should I feel and hear the engine auto/start engage when leaving a stop? I hardly notice the engine start when using the push button to initially start the vehicle. I also do not notice the transmission engage when I use the rotary shift wheel. I do feel a noticeable jolt when I release the brake with the engine stopped. Is this normal? Seems odd that using the manual engine start and gear selector is nearly undetectable but auto start makes a noticeable noise and thud.

2019 Edge Engine Auto Start/Stop Sound

Thanks. Actually I did that for the transmission issue but forgot to check the auto start/stop problem. Will do when I take the vehicle back for the 4th time on the bucking issue.

Thanks Jamie. I'll hand carry a copy of the TSB to the next dealer service department.
