I have a 2016 Ford Edge Titanium that is having liftgate issues all of a sudden. As of this morning when we unplugged the negative lead on the battery, the ‘HOOD AJAR’ light is stuck on. Help! HIstory: Back in July, all of a sudden my a/c quit working and was blowing heat out of all the vents. That morning my a/c worked, but that afternoon when I cranked it, the a/c didn’t work, but defrost did. I was able to reset the HVAC by finding a great YT video that helped me reset it and my a/c works great again. (Problem 1) Last Sunday afternoon I cranked up my car to go to the airport and pick someone up and I pushed the liftgate inside button to open it and nothing. So, I jumped out to open it from outside, nothing. Got the fob out, nothing! I began researching liftgate issues and my hubby checked the fuse (actually changed out 76 fuse) and today we went to Interstate Battery to check my battery. Battery is great. The I B guy unplugged the negative lead on it and let it sit for 5 minutes then plugged it back up… liftgate still didn’t work. I found a post on here talking about manually opening the liftgate from the trunk area - we haven’t done that yet. IS THIS WHAT WE SHOULD WORK ON NEXT? I’m thinking that it’s more of a “COMPUTER” problem now that the hood ajar light is on. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on? Thanks for your help!!!!!

2015 Edge, the automatic liftgate opens 10 inches then drops and locks again. When opened manually to the half way point, then pressing the gate open button, the gate will open 10" every time the button is pressed until it is all the way open. At that point it will try to open further but cant because it is at the top. I've tried the following disconnecting the battery pulling the fuse reprogramming the lift height. When the button is pressed and held the vehicle will not chime. Disconnecting the lift gate motor arm and cycling the button but nothing.

When I leave my 2019 Ford Edge Titanium outside overnight in sub-freezing weather, the liftgate will not open. The latch disengages regardless of method used to open the liftgate. The door opens about 2 inches, but the powering strut does not function at all. If I leave the Edge running for 10-20 minutes with high setting on the heater, the strut eventually works. If the car is left in garage overnight, wher the temperature does not go below freezing, there is no problem.

I was putting groceries in my 2018 edge and Im assuming my foot activated the lift gate sensor. It started closing and did not detect me standing under it. It started pressing quite heavily on my back before I had to jump out. Shouldnt the obstacle detection have activated when the gate pushed on me?

Does POWER LIFTGATE FORD EDGE require any maintenance? lubricate?

I opened the liftgate the other day and heard a clunk. Turns out the whole thing is a misaligned from the factory. The top left corner was catching against the body, and the paint is gone now in that spot. Its not bent or crooked due to damage. This is 100% factory. The door is flush against the body the whole left side all the way down, and the gap on the right side is about double what you would expect. Left panel gap Right panel gap This could explain the liftgate open warning light we got a few times. We just figured we didn't close it hard enough. Going to the dealer today to see what can be done.

I have a 2015 Titanium with hands free liftgate. While this is a good feature, it seems the sensor could be triggered unintentionally by shifting your feet near the bumper as you work near the rear of the car, or intentionally by little kids as they like to imitate adults. Either way, it could be a safety hazard. I know the gate has an obstruction sensor. However, I hate for anything to happen due to a faulty obstruction sensor, and I am not keen to find out what happens if it was my kid or my wife's head or neck at the edge of the closing gate. There is a way to disable the power liftgate, but I really only want the hands free feature disabled. Does anyone have similar issues or concrns? And do you have a clean and reliable way to disable the hands free feature (e.g. blocking the sensor)? Thanks.

I have a 2012 SEL with a power liftgate. On Saturday, I noticed it was creaking a bit when I opened it. Yesterday it went about half way and stopped, if I push the button again it will finish going up. Today, it goes about 2 inches at a time. It seems to be the actual power power actuator not the hydraulics. Is there anything that I can do to lubricate that or does it have to be replaced?

So I had been having intermittent problems with the liftgate for a while (goes halfway up, doesn't latch on first attempt, etc) so I had set aside a day to take my 2011 Edge Sport to the local dealership (Jersey City Ford). In the days leading up to the saved date, I was getting the "key not detected" indication on the dash. I would have to unlock/lock and remote start the car with the fob, then turn it off and wait for the car to detect the key, this worked up until the actual day I planned to take the car to the dealer, it took a half hour for the car to "wake up" and detect the key. I knew I would have to pick a weekday during a week I was on vacation because everything moves painfully slow at this dealer, and sure enough, I was told it would take a "day or two" to troubleshoot and diagnose the problem. So after 3 days and 2 calls placed to the service advisor, my call is returned and I am told that the liftgate needs a part that is on backorder and will be in the following week. "What do you guys do in regards to loaners, because I need to get to work next week", I said. "We have a relationship with the local Budget, take your service order paperwork to them and you'll get a Ford at $30 per day and your warranty will reimburse you up to $30 per day for car rentals.", he said. So I go to Budget and pick up my "loaner" and the following week I'm told the liftgate issue is resolved but another part, for the key detection issue, is on backorder and will be in the following week. Rent the car for another week...in the middle of that week I'm told the part is coming from Nevada and will be here in the next couple of days and the fix should only take a few hours. At this point I realize that these people haven't the slightest idea where this part is coming from and when it will get there so I get a case generated with the Ford Customer Relationship people. They take a couple of days to get back to you as they have to do some investigating themselves but this guy got back to me rather quickly and stated that the part in question is made by a manufacturer that makes the part for production, not for replacement...it is VIN specific. At the end of last week, the service manager called me and said to turn in the rental car and now they have an official loaner car at the dealer waiting for me. I said why now? He stated that they're not sure when the part will get there and how long it will take to fix and test....finally some truth. Monday of this week I see I have a missed call and voicemail...service advisor, "The part is here so we should have your vehicle ready for delivery by EOD Tuesday or today (Wednesday)". Shortly after that, I received a call from Ford Customer Relationships.... "We know now that as of today, the part has been shipped and will be at the dealer this week, I will follow up with you again on Friday." SO.......who's not telling the truth? The part had shipped on Monday, or it arrived at the dealer on Monday? Who knows, it's Wednesday and I've left a message with the dealer...as usual. Message returned with a voicemail from the service manager.....hopefully tomorrow your car will be ready...I won't be holding my breath. Throughout this process I have emailed Mark Fields, Denise Feil, and William Ford Jr. in search of something....help, info, compensation. I'm just a Ford fan with Ford traditions in my family but I'm rapidly becoming an outraged consumer. These obsiquious bastards cant even tell me exactly what is/was wrong with the car. I guess if I had any questions for the forum at the end of this rant it would be....What should I be looking for in terms of some compensation? Service, maintenance, oil changes, full detail?

I have a 2008 edge limited I purchased in May and now have the darndest thing happen with my liftgate. The first issue was when I would use any button to open the liftgate it would open, ding 3 times and then start to automatically close. It wouldn't do this all the time, but frequently. I read to try to reset it by opening and then closing manually. This would periodically work, but it always happened again. Now, however, the power feature is not working at all. Power liftgate is "on" from the instrument panel. When I push any of the buttons it "clicks" like it is enagaging but it never opens. I have to open it manually and it has a lot of resistance. Once manually opened it will not stay open it wants to fall back closed right away. My head has been in the way several times so needless to say I want to get this issue resolved ASAP.

We've got a mint 2008 MKX AWD w/ ~82k on the odometer. We love the car, save for one minor issue: The Power Liftgate rarely, if ever, opens (or closes) automatically. I have tried the various reset methods mentioned in other threads to no avail. If it helps, I can post a video later, but here's what happens in the two possible scenarios: Liftgate closed: pushing the key fob button twice or the button below the instrument panel causes the lock to actuate but the Liftgate never opens automatically. There is the familiar *ding* *ding* *ding* sound that appears to be emitted from the rear of the vehicle. When I grab the Liftgate handle, press the button on the underside and lift the gate, there is considerable resistance and it doesn't seem to want to "pop" open. There are no noises that would make me think the actuator assembly is binding, it's just hard to pull open. Liftgate opened: pushing the key fob button twice or the button below the instrument panel causes the lock to actuate but the Liftgate never closes automatically. There is the familiar *ding* *ding* *ding* sound that appears to be emitted from the rear of the vehicle. When I attempt to close the Liftgate manually, the resistance "feels" normal and is fairly easy to close. To put it simply... I push a button to open or close the Liftgate The lock on the Liftgate actuates I hear a series of *ding* sounds (I believe 3 or 4) The Liftgate doesn't move at all I suspect (hopefully) that the struts are just trashed and should be replaced. What complicates the problem is that 2 out of 5 times, the door will open and close just fine, and sadly I never remember to make note of the conditions during the times that it does work. If it were truly the struts, I would expect them to perform poorly in extremely hot or cold temperatures (it's 100 every day here in Austin at the time of this post). Any other ideas? As I've said, I tried the various Liftgate reset procedures with no improvement. The car is obviously out of warranty and I'm hopeful that the motor/actuator that powers the Liftgate isn't toast. Just bought a new 2013 SEL Edge did not have liftgate well after a week's use I see I really need it. Do you know if one can be installed now? Dealership where I bought it doesn't. Live and Learn. Love the way SUV rides and getting in and out of is so very easy.. Thanks for any suggestions. Have a great day!

Driving a 2011 Ford Edge Limited. No roof rails. I have always been a planner and didn't want to get stuck with figuring out a solution when I needed it most. If you have a load where you have to drive with the lift partially open, (i.e. purchasing a christmas tree) how do you secure it so it isn't completely up in the air when driving. I have looked around and seen some people engage the lock and tie it to that. I also saw tht suburu has a small hole that you can expose to hook into. Just wondering if anyone here has figured out a good alternative. Thanks, if you have pictures of your solution that would be great.
