  1. I have a 2017 Ford Edge with a little over 80,000 miles on it and I live in northern New England where calcium chloride is commonly used on the winter roads. That aside this spring I was changing switching over to my summer tires. I use a hydraulic floor jack which has about a 2" diameter disk with notches to prevent slipping. As I was jacking up the passenger rear wheel side (jack between the arrows) all of a sudden the car dropped the half to three fourths of an inch. I thought the jack had gone up through the rocker panel but fortunately it did not. Instead the lip of the seem just bent over. I was able to continue jacking and finishing the task at hand. Okay, now to my concerns/questions. a) how solid is the rocker panel at these jacking points? b) should I continue using the rocker panel point? c) does anyone know of or recommend alternative jacking points that would be safe? I have read through several earlier posts/strings about jacking. Some recommend using a something similar to a hockey puck or a grooved piece of wood or a commercial version. At this point the damage is done although it may be worth while using such devices might save the other three jacking points. Would be happy to hear what folks have to say and any helpful thoughts will be much appreciated. I tried to upload a picture two pictures but then realized the two combined were too large. I deleted the first picture thinking the second one was more important but now the system won't let me upload any. I will either try to do an edit after posting OR do a reply to myself so anyone interested can see the seam folded over.
  2. I discovered over the last couple of days that my navigation system says I have no GPS, I can not call out or answer calls verbally on my phone. Also the "Audio button" on bottom left of screen does not respond. There may be other symptoms I have yet to discover but that is enough for the moment. I checked/tested fuse # 32 (10 amp) in the passenger compartment fuse panel under the dash and that appears to be okay. I have done a master reset to no avail. This all started when last week the electric cooler fan would not shut off when I shut the car off. I got caught downtown with a dead battery and a good Samaritan gave me jump start with one of those new little jump start batteries.. Since it was late at night when I got home and the fan wanted to keep running I disconnected the battery over night and charged it up. I swapped out Relay #39 in the engine compartment fuse box and that solved that problem. NOW I have the problem described in the first paragraph. Can one or more folks give me some ideas as what to check next? I was sure it was the fuse # 32 (10 amp) but it looked both good and tested good. Any help will be much appreciated.
  3. Hi all, all of a sudden my parking brake yellow light, the red flashing light and the beeping alarm came on. That was 2 weeks ago. I took it straight to the dealer who told me I needed the passenger rear motore and cable new because of corrosion. I never use this brake so puzzled as to why. That's one. The other....I had an appointment today to fix said problem, waited for two solid hours to have it fixed only to have a guy come out (this is a dealership) and tell me what was wrong and how much it will be. I knew that 2 weeks ago!!!! They quote me $650 to do this and my NEXT appointment on Monday. By then I will have driven with lights on and the beeping for over three weeks. Can this only be done by a dealership? Is this price to much? Do I question the validity of needing a whole new motor? (the customer service is another question not belonging in here...ugh) Thank you in advance for any input or advice you may have. Below are the parts numbers that I had them give me before I left today. dg9z-2b712-a $249.04 h2gz-14a411-b $47.33 rest is labor... "

Clicking sound under front passenger seat

Hi, everyone, Thanks in advance for any help you can provide! I have a 2017 Ford Edge Sport. Totally love it, but for the past several months, there has been a clicking sound under my front passenger seat. It occurs while driving on rough pavement or while going over any sort of bump. It sounds like somebody shaking a pair of dice in their hand. I can hear it whether or not anyone is sitting in the seat. If I adjust the seat position a bunch, it will sometimes stop briefly, but then it resumes again. I had my shop look at it, and they adjusted the lumbar support, because they said it was loose. However, that did not stop the clicking sound. It sounds like something is loose and just needs to be tightened up, but I can't find what that may be. Any suggestions? Thanks again!
  7. Ok, long story short, I had rat damage to my engine. Took it to a dealer and they ultimately had to pull the engine out (to replace the firewall insulation). Worst dealer ever. They damaged my custom front Ford emblem (scratched), didn't properly attach the radiator hose to the reservoir (blew off 5 minutes after leaving the dealer). They had to re-splice wire harnesses, which they didn't do correctly (triggered about 20 sensor failures and shorted the battery). And finally, after picking it up the wipers have a HORRID squeaking/chopping effect. They literally "skip/chop" over the window, leaving splatter all over and they obviously don't remove everything. This is all an insurance job so we ultimately took it to a new shop to fix what the dealer screwed up. They inspected the wipers but said they didn't see anything wrong and they mentioned that the steel the arms are made of is incredibly strong and you would see clear signs of damage if they had been tweaked. I tend to agree but here we are. I bought brand-new blades (rain-x best model) and at first it was fine but after a week, the problem returned. They come with some type of conditioner, I think, so they don't dry out or whatever. Anyway, today the shop I'm working with put on yet another new pair of blades. Issue persists. So, my question is - is there any type of adjustments that can be done? This shop mentioned they played with the "tension" on the arms (this was on my first visit) but no help there. It almost seems like they don't cycle as far in the up-swing as they should (stop at the top is about 3 inches from the edge of the window. Would it be worth a try to remove the arm, rotate it slightly, and put it back on? If it isn't in the proper location when you put it on, could that cause excessive squeaking? Thanks in advance!
  8. Hello, A couple of weeks ago my wife was driving in Atlanta and was clipped in the driver side mirror. It literally just took off the mirror and back cover of the driver side mirror. I've replaced the mirror and as I did I came across this connector. Does anyone know what it could be for? I don't see anything it could connect to on the new mirror and the passenger side doesn't appear to have that connector. Just curious if anyone knows. Brian South Carolina
  9. I'm considering a 2017 Edge SE AWD 2.0 Engine. No real upgrades, Pretty Basic Certified Pre-Owned. 21K miles. Previously I had a '10 Edge SEL 6 cyl. Any known issues with the 17 or the AWD version I should be aware of? Thanks
  10. The manual states: With your vehicle in drive (D), the paddle shifters provide temporary manual control. The system determines when temporary manual control is no longer in use and returns to automatic control. It then finishes this section with: Note: The system stays in manual control until you make another shift selection (for example, drive [D]) ***The manual does not state what temporary means. Worse is states the opposite at the end. How do the shifters function?***
  11. Hey everyone, Im not too sure if anyone has done this yet. Ive looked to see if anyone has done it yet and havent found anything. I recently purchased the Steeda CAI and throttle body spacer for the Fusion to try it out on my Edge. I just got around to installing it on the Edge, so far I have had it on the vehicle for only a couple days now but I am enjoying it. You will not be able to fit the engine cover back on if you do this without trimming it. I havent modified the engine cover yet but I plan on doing that eventually. No engine codes or anything will be thrown as long as you put your sensor for the intake back in and dont break it(thats probably the hardest part about installing the CAI because of fitting it through the grommet). Steeda provides you with everything besides the bolt that sits down in the grommet under the intake (this helps support the intake and keep it upright on the back end). All I bought to make this work was a piece of 1/4 all thread, I cut it to 6 and thats the bolt I replaced in the kit that Steeda sent me to support the CAI. Also, you need to use the grommet piece off the stock intake box. Anyways, here are some pictures of it. Steeda - https://www.steeda.com/steeda-fusion-twin-turbo-cold-air-kit
  12. When I roll down my window after it rains, I get wet streaks on the inside of the driver and passenger front windows when I roll them up. I understand it happening on the outside, but have never owned a vehicle that had it happen on the inside. Any one else have/heard of this issue?

  14. We bought a new 2017, ordered with the specs we wanted. We waited for over a month and took delivery yesterday. I'm just posting some of my notes after spending the morning going over the manual and exploring the options. I figure this might help others who are looking. Options; 302A 3.5 v-6 - I did not want turbos on this, I preferred the standard, simple, well tested 20" wheels (lots of debate, glad I went with the 20's Drivers Package - adaptive cruise/collision warning/adaptive steering/power adjust steering wheel/ Cargo Accessory Package - cargo area cover / cargo mat / rear bumper protector / Cold weather package - heated steering wheel / all weather floor mats (may move to CO) Tow Hitch package - with "sway control" but not yet confirmed if 2017 has larger radiator which is what I was after. On our old model, the tow package did come with a different radiator and maybe fans, but from what I have read the new model has nothing different other than the "sway control". http://www.fordescape.org/forum/engine-technical-discussion/11714-class-ii-tow-package-question.html My raw notes from this morning's exploration; We have 6 months Sirius. Includes access via app on phone, and on PC. Channel lineup; https://www.siriusxm.com/channellineup/ Looks like warranty includes Ford road service (card in manual) The ignition lockout deal; seems to be related to controlling CA DUI and non-paying buyers disguised as a security system. I’m glad we did not get it. Controls Music It will run phone apps like Spotify or music apps if you plug in phone via USB, it will display the phone app on the display. Parking Active Park Assist Will park parallel both park and unpark (in and out) and perpendicular (park / IN only). Side Sensing System detects objects within 24” Cameras Backup camera as expected Front camera works with rear Front has wide angle and standard views, accessible through the audio unit. Have to be in D or N to view cameras, if not backing up. Front camera only works at speeds under 6 MPH Designed mainly for pedestrian crossing views and safety. Cruise Control Set speed does not erase with a cancel or brake tap. Hit “resume” to resume. (old car, brake tap erased) Adaptive Cruise Control 4 adjustable gap settings; displayed on icon Maintains gap to vehicle in your lane in front of you 1,2,3,4 gap settings are in yards, 31, 43, 55, 67 respectively. It will NOT do a panic stop, but will slow if needed and apply brakes. Driver Alert (monitors how alert you are) Lane Keeping System Steering wheel stalk control Will do “alert” (shake wheel) and an “aid” (turns wheel) one or both, with three levels of intensity on “alert” Cross Traffic Alert - detects if cars or people are going by when you want to back out. Always on. Collision Warning System In a word, it will not automatically stop to prevent a rear end accident. It will warn you via loud audible alarm and flashing lights. It will pre-charge the brake system so that even a touch on the brakes will do a full panic mode brake lockup. Adaptive Steering Normal or Sport mode. Needs to “relearn” if battery disconnected or power loss. Spare tire Probably not, probably a sealant kit + compressor (cig lighter in rear of car) need to check.
