  1. 2.7L – UNDER HOOD KNOCK/TAP NOISE FROM THE FUEL FEED TUBE – BUILT ON 10/29/2015 AND THROUGH 4/1/2016 Publication Date: July 7, 2016 2015-2016 Edge, 2016 MKX ISSUE: Some 2015-2016 Edge and 2016 MKX vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine and built on 10/29/2015 and through 4/1/2016 may exhibit a knocking/tapping noise that can be heard in the fuel feed tube that attaches to the high pressure fuel pump on the engine. This may be due to a loose check valve located in the fuel feed tube. ACTION: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Check the vehicle build date. Was the vehicle built on 10/29/2015 and through 4/1/2016? a. Yes – proceed to Step 2. b. No – this article does not apply. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 100-04. 2. Inspect the oetiker clamp on the fuel pump feed tube. Can the clamp be rotated by hand on the fuel feed tube? (Figure 1A) Figure 1 a. Yes – replace the fuel feed tube and vapor tube. Proceed to Step 3. b. No – this article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 100-04. 3. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to WSM, Section 310-00. 4. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to WSM, Section 414-01. 5. If equipped, remove the two retainers and remove the engine appearance cover. Torque: 5 Nm (44 lb-in) 6. Remove the right hand air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to WSM, Section 303-12. 7. Disconnect the fuel feed tube and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to WSM, Section 310-00. (Figure 1B) 8. If equipped, remove the retainers and the floor pan underbody shields. (Figure 2) Figure 2 9. Remove the retainers and the front crossmember brace. Torque: 45 Nm (33 lb-ft). (Figure 3) Figure 3 10. Disconnect the fuel feed tube-to-fuel tank and vapor tube quick release couplings. Refer to WSM, Section 310-00. (Figure 4A) Figure 4 11. Remove and discard the fuel feed tube, vapor tube and eight mounting brackets. (Figures 1C, 4B, 5A and 5B) Figure 5 a. It is not necessary to remove the two brake lines. 12. On the new fuel/brake line bundle, remove and discard the two brake lines from the fuel/brake line bundle. 13. Install the new fuel feed tube, vapor tube, and eight mounting brackets on the vehicle. 14. To install, reverse the removal procedure. WARRANTY STATUS Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage And Emissions Warranty Coverage. Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB.
