  1. I have a 2017 Ford Edge SEL. There are multiple problems, listed below, that seems to all be related according to the posts I have been reading. Do I really have two separate issues or are they related in some kind of way. I was a jet engine mechanic and I work on all my cars and motorcycles from time to time. So diving into a motor is not an issue for me, but diving into the wrong area and wasting money is an issue lol. Retirement pay only goes so far. What should/could be my next move? I was going to try to find this coolant leak, but I'm guessing it's internal and will need to change some seals. 1. Rough idle on start. It almost seems like a hesitation. 2. #2 Misfire code (changed spark plugs and coil pack already), was about to do the injectors but thought I would check here first instead of chasing my tail and paying too much money. 3. Ran hot so I changed the thermostat (cause the heater started acting up and blowing cold air a few days before), but not much coolant in the system. I checked again today (2 weeks later) and low coolant again so I have a leak somewhere. I did look at the fill cap and it does have a milky like look to it. I checked the dipstick and looks great. 4. Heater keeps going in and out (blows hot one minute and then cold the next). It's like Forrest Gump would say about a box of chocolates....never know what you're gonna get. lol
  2. I had 2 cylinders misfiring, 2 and 3. Replaced all the spark plugs, and took to a shop to diagnose why it was still misfiring. They replaced 2nd and 3rd ignition coils. Previous shop replaced 2nd fuel injector, swearing that was the problem (didnt help misfire, but have 1 new fuel injector). Drove good for about 100 miles, then Check Engine lights came on with a P2197 code diagnostic. Replaced MAF because shop said that's most common issue with that code. I cleared the code, haven't had a problem since, but it still smells like something's burning under the hood. I'm not too mechanically inclined so I dont have a lot of tools or equipment but I'm trying to save money instead of throwing it into shops all the time. I was going to buy fuel injector cleaner and hope that eliminates the smell, buy does anyone know why it would still smell like burning? Is something still wrong? Edit: Its a sick sweet smell, only noticable in idle.
  3. On my 2012 Ford Edge, 2.0L Ecoboost I recently had to replace the harmonic balancer. After having to search for 2 weeks I found the part and replaced the balancer. The balancer is keyless, I followed the ford TCM procedure, using the necessary tools to stop the crank, lock the cam, and when complete re-align the timing sensor. When I was finished, the CEL was flashing and I could feel a slight misfire. I took to a local mechanic to have them perform the "Misfire Monitor Neutral Correction". They told me they did the procedure, I can only take their word that they did the right one. However, the car is still throwing misfire codes. Any thoughts? My first inclination is to rotate to TDC and re-do the crank sensor alignment.

    P0304 code on 13 Edge

The past few days my 2013 Edge with 102,000 on it, has been running rough and today the check engine light came on. The code was P0304 which is #4 cylinder misfire. Will replacing the plug and coil fix the problem?

Check the vehicle build date. Was the vehicle built on 1-Apr-2016 and through 1-Jan-2017? (1). Yes – proceed to Step 2. (2). No – this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnostics. 2. Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) to the data link connector (DLC) and check for DTCs. Are DTCs P0524 and/or P06DD stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) memory? (1). Yes – continue to Step 3. (2). No – replace the cylinder heads. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-01. The repair is complete. 3. Check the engine oil level on the engine oil level indicator. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. Is the oil level within the minimum and maximum marks on the indicator? (1). Yes – proceed to Step 4. (2). No – add engine oil as needed to achieve the correct oil level on the indicator. Proceed to Step 4. 4. Run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature. Using IDS or FJDS monitor the engine oil pressure. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. Is the oil pressure within specification? (1). Yes – replace the cylinder heads. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. (2). No – replace the long block engine assembly. Refer to WSM, Section 303-01. Prior approval and cost cap must be completed as required; however, follow the diagnostics repair procedure in this article to determine correct repair.
  6. While driving 2 weeks ago the car seemed unstable. I thought I had a flat, pulled over and nothing. Re-started the car and it seemed sluggish. The check engine light came on- and was flashing. I was able to drive between 20-30 with no real problem but didnt want to push it faster. My mechanic changed 3 coils (?) and the plugs. Same misfire came up. He then replaced the PCM with a rebuilt PCM- after it was put in and programmed lo and behold- same misfire. Any ideas?
  7. 2016 Edge/MKX – 2.7L – Rough Idle – Misfire DTCs – White Or Blue Exhaust Smoke And/Or Excessive Oil Consumption – Built On 1-Apr-2016 And Through 1-Oct-2016 Some 2016 Edge/MKX vehicles equipped with a 2.7L engine and built on 1-Apr-2016 and through 1-Oct-2016 may exhibit a rough idle in neutral or park at normal operating temperature or after a hot restart, white or blue smoke from the exhaust, excessive oil consumption and/or an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306 and/or P0316. Suspect the cylinder heads as the cause for this issue. If the vehicle also exhibits P0524 and/or P06DD suspect the long block as the cause for this issue.
  8. Hi All! 2011 Ford Edge Limited, 3.5L AWD, 60k miles Original issue: Cylinder 3 and 4 misfire. Threw codes for misfire + o2 sensor issue (just once) Remedy: Swapped plugs out... New issue: While it idles + cruises at low speed like butttttttttter, I now have HORRID MPG in city. Its averaging about 14 MPG when I used to get 18 or so! Have been off work a while due to health issues so not done my normal 50miles one way to work highway driving. Also, more disconcerning, is that its seriously lacking power. Whenever i try to accelerate or anything that would need some major power the engine RPMS go up to about 6000+ and the car goes literally no where. Im throwing codes P0340 and P0344 (camshaft position sensor codes). Other info: cylinders 3 and 4 plugs were pulled and had gaps of about .68+ while the others had maybe .58... They were corroded and fouled but not horrid. The gaps were just really bad in those two. Meh, whatever. I drive alot. Went to dealer, just got OEM plugs and the parts manager said "check the gap but they are now usually gapped from factory so u dont need to widen them anymore.". Outta the box i checked and all were @ .54.... so i installed them all. If the gap of .54 is too small, wouldnt that mean im potentially not igniting enough fuel to combust? If gap is too small, couldnt that cause the codes to be thrown? Where is the position sensor? I dont think i was anywhere near it. Thank you SO very much for any help... Im going thru a divorce, foreclosure, and am now a single income dad - trying my best.... i have some health issues and just trying to curb any trip to a garage or dealer if i can. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

    Edge seems to misfire...

So my wife has a 07 Edge 2wd with roughly 80k on the clock and it's always had this issue where when you are driving it seems to misfire or maybe lose fuel pressure, not really sure. You can be steady on the throttle at any speed and it just starts sputtering. A lot of times it happens going up an incline but not always. You can floor it and it'll stop the sputter or you can let off the throttle completely for a second or two and it will go back to normal for awhile. She bought the car used and bought an extended warranty with it. This problem eventually triggered a CEL about a year or so ago so we took it to Ford and they changed out a fuel injector (can't remember which one but I'll find out). The problem shortly came back but in a very moderate way and since Ford took 2 weeks to change a friggin injector, we've just been living with it. Now the problem is back with a vengeance! She said the CEL came on again yesterday but by the time she got home from work and I could get it to AutoZone, the code was gone and their readers can't see any stored codes. So what do I think about this you ask? Well I haven't changed the spark plugs EVER, so I'm going to do that this weekend. (Are the plugs really factory Iridium?) But besides buying all new injectors I would like to see if any you guys have had this issue and if so what was your fix. If you haven't had this issue then maybe my description can help you help me diagnose this problem before something really breaks! Thanks guys!
