  1. ***EDIT: This guide will cause DTCs related to the TPMS system, the TPMS sensors also read at a certain Mhz range and changing the module will cause them to lose communication with the car. To regain functionality you will need new TPMS sensors, for me it took 24hrs for this DTC to appear, there is a light on in the dash for it******************************************* ***EDIT/ UPDATE: My issues with TMPS resolved when I started the car up later in the day, this could be an isolated incident, there is not an inherent frequency incompatibility. After doing some experimentation on my own vehicle and pulling information from other fords and the factory workshop manual I have successfully enabled the factory remote start system in my edge for less then a plug and play kit. Things needed******************* -A 902mhz Radio Transceiver Module (I will refer to it as "RTM") (https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/transceiver-7847223-1) -1 or 2 new keyless fobs with the remote start button (https://www.ebay.com/itm/2018-2019-Ford-Expedition-Explorer-Edge-Remote-Start-Prox-Smart-Key-Factory/114158633715?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649) -A working knowledge of Forscan -Tools to operate Forscan -General knowledge of taking apart interior trim ********************************** Explanation of how this works: Basically the ford edge is able to be programmed to any intelligent access key that is from the same era, although not all of them will work correctly out of the box. While you can buy and program a remote start key at any time, it will not work without being inside the battery backup slot (found in the center console) and the buttons on the fob will not work. This is because Ford uses 2 different frequencies for their remotes on the Edge. The keyless remote that you likely have without the remote start button operates in the 300mhz range and the key with remote start operates in the 902mhz range. This is the only thing that makes the keys incompatible with each other. The ford edge uses the RTM to communicate with the body control module to perform all of the functions of the keys. Luckily for us ford sells the upgraded 902mhz RTM on their parts website and it uses the same mounting and wiring harness as the already equipped 300mhz module. This makes adding remote start as easy as plugging in a new module and programming new keys to work with this module. Once the 902mhz RTM is installed it will begin communicating with the BCM and all the functions of the new key will work. How to: 1. The first thing to get out of the way is by far the hardest and most annoying part about this process: key programming. The best-case scenario is that you have the 2 keys that came with your car and no others; in this case, you will be able to program 2 new remote start keys yourself without paying any extra for the process of programming. The worst case is to have more than 2 keys programmed to your car OR to have only one key because the other is lost. If you have only one key you will not be able to program any others without a locksmith or dealer. This is especially annoying because the locksmith I called said that a remote start key would never work with my car so he refused to program one for me. Unfortunately, you will either have to win that argument or buy a key without remote start so that you can program the others (note: keys without remote start will no longer work after this process). If you have more than 2 keys programmed the max you can have on a Ford is 4, so if you are at the limit then you cannot add another without paying a licensed locksmith to delete your other keys. If you have 3 keys programmed you will be able to add another but that will be your only working key at the end of the process, so you will be without a spare. No, you cannot do key programming with edges on forscan, and no you cannot even do it with a VCM 2 and IDS. Ford just recently made it a requirement that you have an online locksmith login to program keys, so even if you have advanced tools you will have to fork over cash to get the keys programmed. If you really like this guide please join me in raising hell about this stupid anti-consumer policy. This step is by far the most complicated. If you have only 2 keys programmed and you still have both of them then the cost of this will be less then an aftermarket solution; if you have the worst case I am sorry but because of Ford logic this will be as expensive if not more than an aftermarket solution. To program the keys on your own there are a ton of other guides out there about it, so I would recommend watching a youtube video on the topic. 2. Once you have gotten the keys programmed the next step is to enable remote start in Forscan. To do this you will need to enable it in the BCM and the IPC modules. These modules both have a gui format that will allow you to simply select these options. If you like to do AS-BUILT then you might have to find the codes elsewhere because there is not a ton of information on edge forscan atm. In both modules, though just enable the option, there is no need to configure it now since you will be able to in the cluster later on. 3. Next, you will need to remove the old RTM module and replace it with the new 902mhz module. This module is located in the headliner right by the trunk in the Edge. I will attach an image of the service manual for reference. I was able to access mine without removing any pillar trim, but if you don't want to risk putting any pressure on the liner, this may be a more involved process. 4. To remove the module from the mount on the headliner, I recommend using a pic or pry tool to lift on the 2 plastic retainers. Once you have removed them the old module should easily come up and out. 5. Now you will need to remove the wiring harness from the RTM. This can be done by pushing in on the little tab on the right side of the connector (again I recommend using a pic for this). With the tab pushed in the wiring harness should come off allowing the whole module to be removed. 6. Now take the new 902mhz module and reverse the steps for removal to install. 7. After plugging all of this in your new remote start keys should begin to work while the older non-remote keys will stop working. It will be as if you had a 302A edge all along Notes: - I did this on a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium 300A and all of the wiring worked perfectly if you have an older model or an SE your mileage may vary. -The old keys will no longer function after doing this procedure, to regain their functionality simply replace the old module. -Before starting this process I would recommend checking your AS-BUILT data from https://www.motorcraftservice.com/AsBuilt and making sure that block 751-01-01 reads "01FF 80DA" as this is what the new module will read, if yours is different you may need to program the new module to be the same as the AS-BUILT.
  2. Hi guys recently got a 2013 edge limited with 60,000km. When you manual start (push start) the HVAC blower blows on full blast and the sync screen is black meanwhile on the right gauge cluster display it says "temporarily lost connection with touch screen". One you hit the power button on the stereo the screen turns on and everything works as normal. When you remote start the vehicle the screen stays black, no HVAC at all, no heated seats, nothing. And yes in the instrument panel all remote settings are set to auto and it is -20°C here. Also noticed when you open the car door when it is off the sync screen doesn't like off. It's like it's not getting a power signal without manually turning it on. Also not sure if this affects anything but the door keypad also doesn't work, I think the 7/8 button is stuck in as all keys are unresponsive and don't light up the keypad except for the 9/0 key which by pressing it, it will lock the doors without even hitting the 7/8 key. I've been trying to use forscan to figure out the issue but I only find f150 or super duty forscan pages. Only DTC on forscan is on the HVAC Module and says lost connection with BCM. Any suggestions?
  3. Just bought a nice used 2010 edge with remote start, 3.5L engine. One remote start FOB works fine, one doesnt. replaced batteries in the FOB that doesnt work. Still doesnt work. Any ideas appreciated
  4. SSM 47251 – 2015-2018 Edge/2016-2018 MKX – Remote Start Selections Grayed Out For Heated Steering Wheel/Heated Seats Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2016-2018 MKX vehicles may exhibit a concern with the remote start selections for heated steering wheel and/or heated seats grayed out in the cluster. To correct this concern, reconfigure the front controls interface module (FCIM) using As-Built Programming. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest data. If the concern is still present, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-10A for the directed self-test for the FCIM. For claiming, use causal part 18842 and applicable labor operations in Section 11 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual. 5. When trying to use the remote start on my 2015 Titanium with the key Fob, I don't get a green light. I get a solid red light. I have checked and the system is enabled. It used to work but now does not. Have tried both keyfobs. Doors are locked. Don't know where to look for the hood switch. all other functions on the fobs work as they are supposed to.
  6. Since the first day I have problems with everything related to external temperature sensor and I have 3 questions If is is freezing and you remote start your Edge Does the heating system goes on automaticly? Does the heating of the driver seat goes onautomaticly? Does the heating of the steering wheel goes on automaticly? In my Edge the heater goes ON BUT NOT the steering wheel and driver seat heaters In my wife Dodge caravan the heating goes on, the driver seat heater goes on and the steering wheel heater goes on Thanks for your help
  7. I have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL with the Ford 2 way communication remote start. Last night I set the climate control system for the windshield defroster mode so when I start the car in the morning with the remote start, the windshield defroster will start. I noticed this morning after I remotely started the car that the buttons were not illuminated in the car and only the parking lights were on with the engine on of course. My last car which was a Mercury Milan would allow whatever heating and cooling function was running when I shut the car off to reactivate when I started the car with the remote start. When I start my Edge normally without the remote start, all functions work propoerly. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated. To me the whole idea of the remote start is to heat, cool or defrost prior to getting in your car. Thanks, Dean
  8. When I first bought my 2013 Edge Limited it came with the Factory Remote Start which is great but was told that there was a 2-way option which showed up online as an option but everytime I tried to order it they said it woudln't fit my vehicle. Even the dealer showed it as an option until they ordered it and somehow said it wasn't possible. Does anyone know for sure if its possible?
  9. I tried programming a factory installed remote start so that it would not kill the engine when the door was opened and that all seemed to go okay but now the car will not remote start. I get the one honk to confirm it received the signal then it honks 4 times and does not start. I have been reading on the forums and see that this is for the tach but I can't figure out how to program the tach. Not even sure how it got unprogrammed as it was working before I went to bank 2 option 7 to turn that option off.
  10. Middle of last week my remote start that I use all the time started doing a thing where the car will remote start .. then turn all fairly quickly (within 15 seconds or so) I've reset the computer, no change. The time duration is not always the same. Sometimes its right away, sometimes its longer like 30-45 seconds. Anyone got any clues ? I'm calling the dealership on monday to get a number of maintenance items addressed so they'll get this on the list as well.
  11. New here - thanks for having me. I attempted doing my research and although I have found similar topics, the solutions aren't helping me... I have a ford remote start system on my 2008 Ford Edge Ltd. The remote start fob is in addition to the key fob (I think it's called long range plug and play). When I try to start it remotely it honks twice (once acknowledging then again when it starts - or used to start) and then nothing happens. When I get in the car the security light is flashing. I have to press the brakes before I try to start it or it won't start. I have read about valet mode, pressing the lock and unlock buttons together, or holding the brake pedal while pressing the remote start button 3 times. I've tried this so many times I don't know which method actually puts me into valet mode or not. I don't even know if I'm currently in valet mode anymore. I've read that some fords have an actual service/override button under the dash, but I can't find one so I assume it's some combination of buttons that I have to do. If I figure out how to get into or out of valet mode what do I do after that? I'm lost. Please help. Thanks, Matt

  13. Not sure if I've missed seeing anyone posting about it here in the forum, but I just found this: http://accessories.ford.com/aerial-asy-10667.html Remote Access Makes Your Smartphone a Virtual Keyfob Sean Johnston, 5/30/2013 Right now, the Remote Access system is available on the F-150, Super Duty®, Edge, Explorer and Lincoln MKX if your vehicle is a 2011 Model Year, or newer. You can also purchase it if you drive a 2013 model year or newer Taurus, Flex, Lincoln MKS or Lincoln MKT. Contact your local dealer for more information on pricing and availability. More vehicles will be added in the future, so stay tuned! I have a message into my dealer to see if I can add this on my '13 Limited w/ MFT, Nav and push-button start. <crossing fingers> This appears to be the site to set up the app: https://my.fordremoteaccess.com/home
  14. Hello everyone, I am a very happy / proud owner of a 2013 Edge Limited 302A and it comes with the factory remote start but I live and work in areas where I can not see my vehicle and would like to know if it is possible to upgrade to the Ford 2 - Way Remote Start System. I understand that I would have to add the second remote to my keychain which is fine with me. I've called the dealer and I've received more "That is a good question" answers than anything. They say they will look in to it and call me back but I haven't heard back anything yet. Does anyone know the answer to this for sure? I assume since it is plug and play it is possible? I assume I would be removing the one that came with it (which I assume but don't know is also plug and play) and replace it with the Two Way One? Any information would be greatly apprecaited.

    IDS VCM, 2013 model

Hi. I would like to know what version of VCM works with Ford Edge 2013. Information on the web makes me think that some VCMs only work with models up to 2012. I need VCM and IDS software in order to activate the remote start function. The only local dealer charges too much for activating the function, so I'm considering if I should buy a used VCM and do it myself. Then I can keep it for future diagnostics or sell it. What options do I have, given that I have a 2013 Edge? Can you clarify this for me? Rsucre
  16. Hi. I'm considering the Remote Start Kit Series 200 from Ford that comes with perimeter security for my Edge SEL 2013. The question I have is if with that kit installed I would be able to stop using the factory FOB (key) at all and always use the FOB that comes with the kit. I imagine it would be a little bulky to carry both FOBs... Perhaps I can hide the factory FOB inside the car in case that I have any issue (dead battery, etc.) with the Remote Start FOB (and use the door keypad to open the car). What would be the best thing to do to avoid having to carry both FOBs?
  17. I have the info on OEM and Dealer installed options, but I was curious what the forum's input was on after market installations.... Basically, does anyone know if the aftermarket options will turn your heat/air on automatically and/or heated seats. What I've heard from installers is rather vague and is a "probably" answer but not for certain. Anyone have any examples of their luck? Our local aftermarket place quoted me $299 for the two fobs installed, but I wanted to make sure it'll include the climate control. What's the point of just the engine being turned on. We have a 2010 Limited Edge (no power lifegate)
  18. I've had the car (2008 Edge SEL limited) for a little over 2 years now and the key fob has been working great up until about 3 weeks ago. The car has a factory remote start built in and if you press the lock button 3 times it will start the car. Now for some reason the key fob won't lock/unlock or remote start unless you are within 5-10 feet of the car. It used to work from our second story apartment (if you stood at the window and aimed the key fob at the car). Today I replaced the battery (in the key fob) thinking it was going bad and was the reason for it not working from a distance. This didn't fix the problem. Anyone know what is causing this issue?
  19. Hello - My name is Pete, after having Nissans for the last 10+ years I decided to change directions and went with a 2013 Edge Limited 302A with the Platinum White Paint. I still have less than 500 miles on it and loving every mile so far. I do have a few questions that I hope I can get answered. First of all has anyone had any issues with their winsheild being scratched very easily? I thought I noticed a few light scractched on my windshield when I took delivery but didn't really think it was that much of an issue. Now that I've had it for a while I can confirm that there are some light scratches on it which made me think about when I had a recent rental 2013 Edge which had some really nasty scratches on the windshield. Is this something common? Something I should worry about? Second - Is there a way to upgrade the Factory / Included Remote Start to the 2 way system that Ford Offers? No one can seem to give me a clear answer. I live in an area where I can not see my car and need some kind of a 2 way system so that I can be sure the car has started. Can it just be replaced with the 2 ways system which I believe is plug and play. Third - I ready that you can use Google Maps as well as Mapquest to "Send to Sync" but I don't see that option in Google Maps. Am I missing something? Related to that when I use Mapquest to send something to the GPS I can get it to download and even save it as a favorite but I can't give it a voice tag? How do you do that? Finally and kind of related to the Send To Sync - On the Sync My Ride Website there is something with Favorites but I don't know how this works? Is this like Send it to Sync? How do I get them to download to the Navagation System? I connnect to "Services" and I am not asked if I want to download them or do they show up in the Navagation.
  20. Hi everyone, I just bought a 2008 Edge Limited. I love it but today when I locked the doors with the key fob (2x lock button), and what happened is that the engine started... I didn't know I had a remote start on the car. I guess it should have a separate button on the key fob? And I guess it should not start the vehicle when locking it? If I indeed have the remote start function how do I operate it? Thanks for help!
