The Guide to Adding OEM Remote Start to The Ford Edge (2015+) and Other Similar Ford Vehicles Rewritten As of 2023 How this Works: The Ford Edge (2015+) and other similar generation Ford vehicles use the Body Control Module (BCM) to initiate remote start from the key. Likely due to simplicity, Ford has the logic for remote start built into every BCM regardless of whether remote start is equipped. This means in order to add remote start, like higher trim models have equipped, all that needs to be added is a remote start key fob and its corresponding antenna. Key fobs that do not use remote start operate at 300Mhz which fits its application of simply locking and unlocking at a short range. When remote start is equipped, a 902Mhz antenna and key fob are used to establish longer two-way communication between the fob and the antenna. Ford calls this antenna the Radio Transceiver Module (RTM). The upgraded RTM is sold through Ford Parts and is directly swappable to car, making adding OEM remote start cheap and easy (relatively). What You Will Need: - A 902mhz Radio Transceiver Module "RTM" (https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/transceiver-7847223-1) - A key fob or two that have the remote start button (https://ebay.to/3GXXxBO) - A computer with FORScan and USB OBD II Scanner Disclaimer - As of writing this, swapping out the module does seem to cause loss of TPMS communication. This does not mean there is a fault with the TPMS sensors, they do not need to be replaced. Sometimes the signal can be relearned overtime. If a TPMS warning stays for a long time, the TPMS sensors may need to be reprogrammed. This can be done by purchasing a TPMS scan tool (https://a.co/d/2KBtWZ3) and following this guide to enter programming mode (https://bit.ly/3CGuTTg) replacing each flipping of the key with 2 presses of the start/stop button - Current programmed keys will stop functioning after the module swap How To Step 1: Key Programming - In order to program the new 902Mhz key fobs a few things need to be kept in mind about Ford's key programming logic. Regular users can put their vehicles in programming mode as long as they have 2 key fobs and less than 4 total keys programmed. If one of the keys are missing, the programming mode cannot be activated and a locksmith must use a specialized scan tool to wipe and add new key fobs. The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) will show the total amount of keys programmed when scrolling though the vehicle settings menu. - If you have 2 key fobs, no other keys programmed, and the new 902Mhz remote, use this guide (https://bit.ly/3Xq9g1C) Step 2: Take Note of RTM Module Data in FORScan Before replacing any module, it is a good idea to make note of the AS-BUILT data so that different values can be copied over between old and new modules. For the RTM on the Edge, check that 751-01-01 reads "01FF 80DA" as this is what the new module will come with by default. If your value is different and there is an issue with the module, copying the values from the AS-BUILT may be helpful. Step 3: Enable Remote Start in FORScan Body Control Module (BCM): - Hood Switch - Change from "Not Present" to "Present" - Remote Start - Change from "Disabled" to "Enabled" Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) - Remote Start - Change from "Disabled" to "Enabled" Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) - Remote Start - Change from "Disabled" to "Enabled" Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Remote Start - Change from "Disabled" to "Enabled" - Remote Start Climate Settings - Change from "Disabled" to "Enabled" Step 3: Replace RTM Module The diagrams and photo below show the placement and mounding of the RTM. This module is light weight and simple to remove. Use a fine metal pick to undo the smaller plastic connections. To gain access to the module, simply pull the headliner down enough to gain access. Not much force should be used, as the headliner foam could be permanently damaged. Conclusion After completing Step 3, the newly programmed key fobs should begin to function right away and remote start should immediately work. If there are any issues, double check the module is plugged in correctly, that it is reading in FORScan, and that all FORScan options regarding to Remote Start are set to "Enabled."

So have a edge here gotta be 2006 to 2009, had a blow box it it at one point then remote start Ford dealer installed and after the brake lights are constantly on and no cruise. They say the blow box was incorrectly installed, and want a grand to diagnose it.... although they created the problem. So I ain’t even sure where to start was going to swap brake light switch on pedal and check if they stuck wires together somewhere. My thought process is they installed like they would a manual except instead of a jumper on park switch they used brake switch.

I tried programming a factory installed remote start so that it would not kill the engine when the door was opened and that all seemed to go okay but now the car will not remote start. I get the one honk to confirm it received the signal then it honks 4 times and does not start. I have been reading on the forums and see that this is for the tach but I can't figure out how to program the tach. Not even sure how it got unprogrammed as it was working before I went to bank 2 option 7 to turn that option off.

Please help, anyone experience this?

Hi guys recently got a 2013 edge limited with 60,000km. When you manual start (push start) the HVAC blower blows on full blast and the sync screen is black meanwhile on the right gauge cluster display it says "temporarily lost connection with touch screen". One you hit the power button on the stereo the screen turns on and everything works as normal. When you remote start the vehicle the screen stays black, no HVAC at all, no heated seats, nothing. And yes in the instrument panel all remote settings are set to auto and it is -20°C here. Also noticed when you open the car door when it is off the sync screen doesn't like off. It's like it's not getting a power signal without manually turning it on. Also not sure if this affects anything but the door keypad also doesn't work, I think the 7/8 button is stuck in as all keys are unresponsive and don't light up the keypad except for the 9/0 key which by pressing it, it will lock the doors without even hitting the 7/8 key. I've been trying to use forscan to figure out the issue but I only find f150 or super duty forscan pages. Only DTC on forscan is on the HVAC Module and says lost connection with BCM. Any suggestions? -

SSM 47251 – 2015-2018 Edge/2016-2018 MKX – Remote Start Selections Grayed Out For Heated Steering Wheel/Heated Seats Some 2015-2018 Edge and 2016-2018 MKX vehicles may exhibit a concern with the remote start selections for heated steering wheel and/or heated seats grayed out in the cluster. To correct this concern, reconfigure the front controls interface module (FCIM) using As-Built Programming. I have a 2013 Ford Edge SEL with the Ford 2 way communication remote start. Last night I set the climate control system for the windshield defroster mode so when I start the car in the morning with the remote start, the windshield defroster will start. I noticed this morning after I remotely started the car that the buttons were not illuminated in the car and only the parking lights were on with the engine on of course. My last car which was a Mercury Milan would allow whatever heating and cooling function was running when I shut the car off to reactivate when I started the car with the remote start. When I start my Edge normally without the remote start, all functions work propoerly. Am I doing something wrong? Any suggestions would be appreciated. To me the whole idea of the remote start is to heat, cool or defrost prior to getting in your car. Thanks, Dean

Is there a factory option for a 2-Way Remote Start?
funhouse69 posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
When I first bought my 2013 Edge Limited it came with the Factory Remote Start which is great but was told that there was a 2-way option which showed up online as an option but everytime I tried to order it they said it woudln't fit my vehicle. Even the dealer showed it as an option until they ordered it and somehow said it wasn't possible. Does anyone know for sure if its possible?- 1 reply

Middle of last week my remote start that I use all the time started doing a thing where the car will remote start .. then turn all fairly quickly (within 15 seconds or so) I've reset the computer, no change. The time duration is not always the same. Sometimes its right away, sometimes its longer like 30-45 seconds. Anyone got any clues ? I'm calling the dealership on monday to get a number of maintenance items addressed so they'll get this on the list as well.

Remote start for 2008 ford edge
Clarkey99 posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
New here - thanks for having me. I attempted doing my research and although I have found similar topics, the solutions aren't helping me... I have a ford remote start system on my 2008 Ford Edge Ltd. The remote start fob is in addition to the key fob (I think it's called long range plug and play). When I try to start it remotely it honks twice (once acknowledging then again when it starts - or used to start) and then nothing happens. When I get in the car the security light is flashing. I have to press the brakes before I try to start it or it won't start. I have read about valet mode, pressing the lock and unlock buttons together, or holding the brake pedal while pressing the remote start button 3 times. I've tried this so many times I don't know which method actually puts me into valet mode or not. I don't even know if I'm currently in valet mode anymore. I've read that some fords have an actual service/override button under the dash, but I can't find one so I assume it's some combination of buttons that I have to do. If I figure out how to get into or out of valet mode what do I do after that? I'm lost. Please help. Thanks, Matt -

Ford Remote Access / Remote Start via Smartphone
icee posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Not sure if I've missed seeing anyone posting about it here in the forum, but I just found this: http://accessories.ford.com/aerial-asy-10667.html Remote Access Makes Your Smartphone a Virtual Keyfob Sean Johnston, 5/30/2013 Right now, the Remote Access system is available on the F-150, Super Duty®, Edge, Explorer and Lincoln MKX if your vehicle is a 2011 Model Year, or newer. You can also purchase it if you drive a 2013 model year or newer Taurus, Flex, Lincoln MKS or Lincoln MKT. Contact your local dealer for more information on pricing and availability. More vehicles will be added in the future, so stay tuned! I have a message into my dealer to see if I can add this on my '13 Limited w/ MFT, Nav and push-button start. <crossing fingers> This appears to be the site to set up the app: https://my.fordremoteaccess.com/home -
2013 Edge Limited - Can Factory Remote Start Be Upgraded?
funhouse69 posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Hello everyone, I am a very happy / proud owner of a 2013 Edge Limited 302A and it comes with the factory remote start but I live and work in areas where I can not see my vehicle and would like to know if it is possible to upgrade to the Ford 2 - Way Remote Start System. I understand that I would have to add the second remote to my keychain which is fine with me. I've called the dealer and I've received more "That is a good question" answers than anything. They say they will look in to it and call me back but I haven't heard back anything yet. Does anyone know the answer to this for sure? I assume since it is plug and play it is possible? I assume I would be removing the one that came with it (which I assume but don't know is also plug and play) and replace it with the Two Way One? Any information would be greatly apprecaited.- 9 replies

Hi. I would like to know what version of VCM works with Ford Edge 2013. Information on the web makes me think that some VCMs only work with models up to 2012. I need VCM and IDS software in order to activate the remote start function. The only local dealer charges too much for activating the function, so I'm considering if I should buy a used VCM and do it myself. Then I can keep it for future diagnostics or sell it. What options do I have, given that I have a 2013 Edge? Can you clarify this for me? Rsucre

Remote Start Kit Series 200 Plug & Play
rsucre posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Hi. I'm considering the Remote Start Kit Series 200 from Ford that comes with perimeter security for my Edge SEL 2013. The question I have is if with that kit installed I would be able to stop using the factory FOB (key) at all and always use the FOB that comes with the kit. I imagine it would be a little bulky to carry both FOBs... Perhaps I can hide the factory FOB inside the car in case that I have any issue (dead battery, etc.) with the Remote Start FOB (and use the door keypad to open the car). What would be the best thing to do to avoid having to carry both FOBs? -
Remote Start for 2010 Edge (Aftermarket)
sterlinggrayxlt posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
I have the info on OEM and Dealer installed options, but I was curious what the forum's input was on after market installations.... Basically, does anyone know if the aftermarket options will turn your heat/air on automatically and/or heated seats. What I've heard from installers is rather vague and is a "probably" answer but not for certain. Anyone have any examples of their luck? Our local aftermarket place quoted me $299 for the two fobs installed, but I wanted to make sure it'll include the climate control. What's the point of just the engine being turned on. We have a 2010 Limited Edge (no power lifegate)- 1 reply

I've had the car (2008 Edge SEL limited) for a little over 2 years now and the key fob has been working great up until about 3 weeks ago. The car has a factory remote start built in and if you press the lock button 3 times it will start the car. Now for some reason the key fob won't lock/unlock or remote start unless you are within 5-10 feet of the car. It used to work from our second story apartment (if you stood at the window and aimed the key fob at the car). Today I replaced the battery (in the key fob) thinking it was going bad and was the reason for it not working from a distance. This didn't fix the problem. Anyone know what is causing this issue?

Hello - My name is Pete, after having Nissans for the last 10+ years I decided to change directions and went with a 2013 Edge Limited 302A with the Platinum White Paint. I still have less than 500 miles on it and loving every mile so far. I do have a few questions that I hope I can get answered. First of all has anyone had any issues with their winsheild being scratched very easily? I thought I noticed a few light scractched on my windshield when I took delivery but didn't really think it was that much of an issue. Now that I've had it for a while I can confirm that there are some light scratches on it which made me think about when I had a recent rental 2013 Edge which had some really nasty scratches on the windshield. Is this something common? Something I should worry about? Second - Is there a way to upgrade the Factory / Included Remote Start to the 2 way system that Ford Offers? No one can seem to give me a clear answer. I live in an area where I can not see my car and need some kind of a 2 way system so that I can be sure the car has started. Can it just be replaced with the 2 ways system which I believe is plug and play. Third - I ready that you can use Google Maps as well as Mapquest to "Send to Sync" but I don't see that option in Google Maps. Am I missing something? Related to that when I use Mapquest to send something to the GPS I can get it to download and even save it as a favorite but I can't give it a voice tag? How do you do that? Finally and kind of related to the Send To Sync - On the Sync My Ride Website there is something with Favorites but I don't know how this works? Is this like Send it to Sync? How do I get them to download to the Navagation System? I connnect to "Services" and I am not asked if I want to download them or do they show up in the Navagation.

Remote start on lock doors
LivingInTheEdge posted a topic in Alarms, Keyless Entry, Locks & Remote Start
Hi everyone, I just bought a 2008 Edge Limited. I love it but today when I locked the doors with the key fob (2x lock button), and what happened is that the engine started... I didn't know I had a remote start on the car. I guess it should have a separate button on the key fob? And I guess it should not start the vehicle when locking it? If I indeed have the remote start function how do I operate it? Thanks for help!
