Shifter lights went out

I noticed last week that my shifter lights when out. I'm referring to the P,R,N,D,L next to the shifter that lights up when you turn your parking lights or headlights on. The car is in the shop now and this will be a two day fix it looks like. They told me the socket that holds the bulb burned out. Anyone else ever hear of this? The Edge has 15k miles on it and I bought it new last March.

I see no replies, but here is an update. The truck is still in the shop and will be there tomorrow as well. They said the shifter light bulb socket melted. Hmmmm

they sell the bulb at the autoparts. Easy swap, lift center console cover off, bulb is on left side. counter clockwise twist gets it out. I changed mine then the next day it burned out again. I bought a different brand, they come in like 6 different wattages.

Just bought 2016 Edge with 16K miles on it. The PRNDL letters on the console all light at same brightness. Individual letters don't light as you move the shifter. Is this normal? Why have them there if they don't give you info as to which gear you're in? Thanks for any help.

Because they're on the dash underneath the speedometer? The shifter should be in the same general location for PRNDS

When I bought my '11 Limited AWD the PRNDM indicators were also out. Never have lit. Anyone have a source for the procedure to pull the console and change out da bub and/or socket? Also, my Hazard Flashers do not work. I've check all fuses, etc, but can't find the problem.

Looks to be pretty similar tho. In the comments one guy who has an '11 mentions that you have to also remove the trim around the shifter to get to the bulb. I'm going to give this a try.

Didn't Ford convert over to LEDS starting with the 2011? Looks like you can pull the top of the shifter cover off (simple clip on) and see if the LED is replaceable.

I accidentally broke this bulb off of the gear selector when replacing the power point. Does anyone know how to get to the part that I need to replace or what it is called. Right now I am leaving it alone until I find something online that helps. The bulb works but has just broken of the gear selector. Thanks

Let me know if you come up with a solution cuz I snapped mine off too while rewiring the power point. Like yours, mine still lights up but it's just hanging in there somewhere.
