Simran Kooner Report post Posted September 14, 2013 Hey, I have a 2007 Ford Edge and I wanted to install HIDs, are there any problems i will encounter? Flickering/flashing? Will I get a Light for check engine or something? is there anything else i need to buy? I'm playing on buying 6000k or 8000k.
PrinzII Report post Posted September 16, 2013 Since I owned a 2008 previously, this is what I did: a) Made sure that the ballasts were 100% digital. Non-digital ballasts had issues with flickering. Went with a color temperature no higher than 6000k. If you did that, you were reducing light output unless you went with a 55w system. The higher wattage systems do require a relay harness. c) I actually went with a 35w system for both high and low beams due to the extremely dark roads we have here. I never had a check engine light nor any problems with the vehicle after installation.
PrinzII Report post Posted September 17, 2013 A few more things: a) 35 watt systems are just plug and play. No special harnesses needed. To clarify the 6000k comment, HID output is measured in lumens and the K values are color temperatures. Any HID kit is going to be brightest between 4000-6000k. My 6000K kit was 2800 lumens. The 5000K I currently have is 3200 lumens. Bear in mind, those values are with 35w kits. 55w kits are going to be higher but, again, you will need the harness. c) The kits commonly used here are DDM or Morimoto (via TRS (The Retrofit Source)). I went with a totally different vendor for both kits.

WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted September 19, 2013 What kit are you using? Did you make any alterations to wiring? Is your headlight switch in the AUTO position or do you turn the lights on manually? For example, I expect the behavior you have described when it is dusk and you remotely unlock the doors. At that time the headlights and rear lights will come on and stay on for a predetermined interval.
candurin Report post Posted September 19, 2013 I actually sounds like you wired them to parking lights.... But I can't imagine that's even plausible.
Simran Kooner Report post Posted September 19, 2013 Its a Nova Hid kit and i didn't make any alternations to the wiring. i've tried different positions but i keep it on auto.Im also not using a relay harness yet.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted September 20, 2013 Is this it? http://novahid.com/ Do you know if the kit was Canbus or non-Canbus? 2007 MY does not have a Canbus system.
Simran Kooner Report post Posted September 21, 2013 Yeah thats the site and it is one of the slim canbus ones
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted September 21, 2013 I don't know if there is a simple adapter that will fix this problem. As far as I know, you need to get a non-canbus HID kit. That should resolve the issues you have experienced.
Simran Kooner Report post Posted September 22, 2013 Yeah, thats what im going to do. Ill try it and let you know if it works. Thanks for the suggestion.
TheWizard Report post Posted September 22, 2013 Also, are you in Canada? You can't use HIDs with the factory daytime running lights in the headlights.
