Best Cell Phone Holder For Edge?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. Loving the new Edge. Only thing I miss from my old car is the Navi. Now I use my phone which I don't mind, but I'm trying to find the best cell phone holder that fits either on top of the center dash or right in front of the shifter. What do you guys use?? I don't want to attach to windshield if possible but I think it'll be hard to find something that sticks to the dash.

Thanks

I have a KUDA mount. It mounts on the console trim and is encased in leather. Looks great. I also had one on my 2004 Sport Trac. They offer two different ones for the Edge. One mounts down low, and the other mounts up near the MFT screen. I tried the lower one, but it interfered with the cup holder so I exchanged it for the higher one,and love it. I don't have any pictures right now, but you can check them out at the link below:

Also, are you using an iPhone 5? If so, I've got a mount from KUDA for the iPhone 5 for sale that goes with the piece above if you're interested. See the link below for info on this mount:

@carbon edge, that's actually the one I had on my wish list! Just wasn't sure if it would stick. Will it stick on the dash or center console in front of shifter?

Thanks for the replies guys. BTW I have a Motorola RAZR Maxx

I have a bigger model of that one. It'll stick to the dash, but the cup is too big for in front of the shifter. I stuck mine to the grey (wood in a limited) piece to the right of the radio.

Dingo you referring to the trim on top of the glove box? That's a good idea too.

I've had good luck with ProFit in previous vehicles. It attaches with screws behind the radio trim.

Unfortunately, I can no longer speak to where it would best mount in an Edge, but I will take a look in the loaner we currently have. I now have a '12 Fusion; there is a little drawer left of the steering wheel, I pulled the felt lining, cleaned it with alcohol, and it's stuck to the textured bottom; it feels very secure.

We actually have a '13 Edge loaner right now as my wife's Explorer is back in the shop for the exhaust smell issue; if you don't mind the reach, that is a good mounting spot...

That's why I went with the KUDA mount. A mount on the passenger side dash trim was too far of a reach for me in the driver's seat. More importantly, it would seem to me that having anything mounted on the passenger-side dash area would pose a serious safety risk, as it could interfere with the normal operation/deployment of the air bag.

And finally, I chose the KUDA mount for the trim just to the right of the MFT screen because to me it presented the most "clean", "almost factory" looking installation of any mount out there.

sixponies, can you post a picture of your cell phone in the Edge? I looked at the links you posted but the pictures there really don't give me an idea of how the phone is held.

Thanks

I can't do it right now, as I'm at work. But I'll try to post something a few pictures in the next few days. Did you click on the "larger view" links in the photos on those pages? They give a little better view. Basically, the KUDA mount in the first link clips around the trim piece, the the "iMega" cradle in my second link attached to the KUDA mount with 3M body-side molding tape. It's solid as a rock.

Here's a link to the instructions for mounting the KUDA mount on the console trim that has a few more pictures:

I like that Kuda mount. But how does the phone stick to it? Magnet?

It's a two-part system. The leather KUDA mount clamps around the dash trim. Then a second item attaches to it with 3M body molding tape. KUDA offers several add-on mounts from which to choose, depending on your particular device. See my original post in this thread for links to the KUDA mount for the Edge and the iMega phone clamp that goes with it that I'm selling.

I just ordered this guy from amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BJU0CHQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It'll be here Monday and I'll post pix when it comes in. I wanted to go with a minimalistic look as many of the other mounts are bulky in nature with their ball swivel and brackets. This one doesn't offer the flexibility of others since there is no tilt/pan but I try not to mess with the phone while driving anyway.

Yes please post pics. I was actually gonna go with that. I got the iottie. So far so good. Holds great . I placed it on the dash, right in the middle.

Below is the IOttie on the left side of the dash. It will absolutely stick to the pebbled surface. I mounted it on the left side with an iPhone 5S and keep Waze running on my commute.

@EspoMan ok my man, phone mount came in and it takes all of two seconds to put it in. I did a video review so everyone could get an idea of what it looks like in the car and how it works. Enjoy...

Join the club. I use it as well for my commute and highway travel.

As for mounting options (except for CA which has a law regarding items mounted to the windshield), I have a Samsung mount affixed to my windshield. Fits my S4 just fine and has the charging cable. I also have one of those multi-outlet adapters.

I was so excited when i saw this...it was just what i was looking for. I use waze for my commute to work. I was so excited i did not check to see if it would fit my phone. I have an Note 2 and it does not fit this mount. I did find this...for those of us with the bigger phones...Similar design bust uses a magnet rather than a clamp to hold the phone...
