Loss of power

Recommended Posts

I have a 2011 Edge Limited, 40,000 miles. While driving Edge has loss of power, big wrench shown on instrument panel. Turn off engine & restarts. This has happen twice in two weeks. Ford service said no fault codes, they do not no what is happening. This is dangerous, and keeps happening, Ford will not be in my future.

I have a 2011 Edge with 41,000 miles on it that experienced the same problem - loss of power, wrench appeared. After shutting the car off and restarting, car worked. Problem repeated itself the next day, was able to pull over the two times (fortunately,) shut the car off and restart. After the third time the engine light came on. Took the car to the dealership. They replaced the throttle and did a Powetrain module update as well as "highly recommended" cleaning. Nearly $900 later I have the vehicle back in working order (at least so far.)

Pretty frustrating - have owned a number of vehicles, most from Ford, all older and with more miles than this one and never experienced this type of problem - very disappointing.

I have had the same problem! Driving and all of a sudden lost power was able to turn the car around so power steering was not effected but when i tried to give the car gas it was dead. That time I was close to home and did coast home, afraid to turn it off since I was on a 2 lane road. Had it towed to dealership since I was afraid to drive it. They told me they didn't find anything wrong and according to the computer it never happened??? So continued driving it but not feeling safe. OK fast forward 3 weeks it happened again, lost power, this time I was able to pull over and restart the car. This time I called the dealership and they told me they couldn't do anything unless I bring it in when the wrench warning light was on. I told them that would be a problem unless i just kept driving around there lot until it happened again. So today I went to the dealership and talked with another tech who didn't look at me like i was crazy. He said to leave it with him and he would have someone drive it around until it happened again. Unbelievable, but when the driver was on the highway it did it to him not once but twice before he could get it back. They called me and told me that it was the throttle body but they wouldn't be able to get it until the end of September, it is now the end of August. So for a month I will stay off highways and stick to the right side so I can pull over when this happens again. I won't let my children ride with me during this time since I think this is extremely dangerous. Thanks to the tech that helped today, but Ford, get it worked out.

Sounds like the problem has been correctly identified, bokes! Hope they get the Edge fixed up ASAP. Interesting this is not an issue on 2007-10, so must be a design change on 2011+ ...

My 2011 Limited has now done this to me four or five times in the last two weeks-once on a busy interstate highway. I cleaned the TB last week, but obviously that hasn't helped. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order and new one and swap it. I have ~57K miles on the car.
