rsto Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Im planning on plasti-dipping my grill on my 2013 and had a few questions for those of you that have already done it. First off, how difficult is it to take off the license plate bracket so I can just do all the grill instead of around that? and secondly how many coats did you apply when you did it? I did the edge logo on the back hatch so I'm familiar with the process and how to apply it, just don't wanna screw up on the grill since its such a large part of the vehicle....any feedback or other tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks
rsto Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Did some research and found out that simply popping off the license plate bracket is not the case Gonna heve to try and figure out some way to still make it look good even with it left on during the whole thing. WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Yeah, you would have to un-rivet, then re-rivet the LPB. No way to go without the front LPB in TX? Otherwise you could fill it in with a bumper plug then PD over it.
rsto Report post Posted September 5, 2014 Cant go without, was able to a few years back but now both front and rest are required. Ill just have to make sure to spray behind what I can and try to cover up what chrome I can behind.
scottk Report post Posted January 4, 2015 I just plasti dipped my grille this past weekend. I left everything on, just masked off everything I didn't want dipped. I was also extra careful to make sure all paths to the radiator were thoroughly masked to keep the plasti dip off the radiator. I ended up doing 5 coats. wannabang Report post Posted January 6, 2015 I probably overkilled, but I think I did ten-ish coats. When I did the forward part of my hood in clear, I found that over time it will thin, or be harder to peel off in one sheet, so the more coats, the easier it'll be to take off over time. The first time I did it I think I did 7.
L0lboubou Report post Posted January 6, 2015 @scottk can you post some pics please? Thanks
candurin Report post Posted January 7, 2015 Looks real good. I did a piss poor job when I tried to mask and dip my grill. Bit the bullet and installed the black grill inserts. I only dipped the chrome lip just below the hood and above the headlights (and I have a chip I need to patch).
L0lboubou Report post Posted January 8, 2015 did you use the glossifier plastidip on the black plastidip? Thanks
scottk Report post Posted January 9, 2015 I used the regular matte black. Picked it up at Home Depot for just under 6 bucks a can. 1 can was more than enough to do the grille and the badges on the rear. In the spring I plan on finishing up the rest of the chrome including the wheels.
thom6998 Report post Posted January 15, 2015 I've never used plasti dip before but I plan on doing my grill this weekend. I'm going to do white inserts with black on the chrome. I'll let you know how it goes and hopefully post photos if it turns out.

Larry Report post Posted January 16, 2015 I'm also thinking about plasti dipping my grill. How well does this stuff hold up far as chipping/peeling? How does it hold up going through car washes? Thanks Larry Northern,In
thom6998 Report post Posted January 18, 2015 I finished my plasti dip project this weekend. I easily removed the grill to spray. I'm happy with how it came out but I'm going to try and touch up the white next week. I have a car wash subscription that I use during the Winter to get the mag chloride off my car. Hopefully it holds, we will see. It feels durable and I've watched several videos of cars going through the car wash after being dipped and they were fine.
Larry Report post Posted January 25, 2015 Hello, I posted earlier and asked how well plasti dip held up. Through reading other posting I gather it holds up really well. Now for another question. I see ads for Performix brand plasti dip and Eastwood brand plasti dip. Which brand is better? Or are they one in the same? Thanks Larry Northern, In. thom6998 Report post Posted February 3, 2015 how did you do the emblems? did you mask them off? im assuming they are pinned into the car as they are in other ford models?I used newspaper to tape around the outside of the emblem then sprayed over it with 5 coats. After it dried I peeled the plasti out of the inside. I also did my Ford emblem and it turned out well.

Was it hard to keep the part you pulled out of the middle from taking the side of the emblem plasti with it?
thom6998 Report post Posted February 4, 2015 Awesome! thank you. Ill have to give it a shot. Was it hard to keep the part you pulled out of the middle from taking the side of the emblem plasti with it? No, I used a toothpick to trace the letters on the inside and it came right off while staying tight on the letters. So far driving through snow and getting dirt all over hasn't affected it at all. scottk Report post Posted February 8, 2015 Just wanted to give an update on how my dip is holding up. In CT we've had a ton of storms lately and was wondering if the salt/snow/ice would have a negative impact. Just went through the touchless car wash and none of dip came off. I also used the toothpick method for the insides of the letters. TJames557, let me know how you do the rims that is my first project in the spring.
