WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted August 10, 2017 Appears to be no need to pull the dash for the exp valve replacement Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV) NOTE: Installation of a new receiver/drier desiccant bag is not required when repairing the air conditioning system, except when there is physical evidence of contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the receiver/drier desiccant bag. The thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) is located at the evaporator core inlet and outlet tubes at the center rear of the engine compartment. The TXV provides a restriction to the flow of refrigerant from the high-pressure side of the refrigerant system and separates the low-pressure and high-pressure sides of the refrigerant system. Refrigerant entering and exiting the evaporator core passes through the TXV through 2 separate flow paths. An internal temperature sensing bulb senses the temperature of the refrigerant flowing out of the evaporator core and adjusts an internal pin-type valve to meter the refrigerant flow into the evaporator core. The internal pin-type valve decreases the amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator core at lower temperatures and increases the amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator core at higher temperatures. Removal and Installation NOTE: Installation of a new receiver/drier desiccant bag is not required when repairing the air conditioning system except when there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the receiver/drier desiccant bag. NOTE: The O-ring seals used on this vehicle are not interchangeable with all similarly sized O-ring seals used on other Ford products. Use only the O-ring seals specified for this vehicle in the Ford master parts catalog. Recover the refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00 .Remove the thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) fitting nut and disconnect the fitting. Discard the O-ring seals. To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Remove the 2 TXV bolts.Remove the TXV. Discard the O-ring seals. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Install new O-ring seals lubricated in clean PAG oil. Lubricate the refrigerant system with the correct amount of clean PAG oil. For additional information, refer to Section 412-00 . Polarbear705 Report post Posted March 30, 2018 I noticed there was no need to pull the dash out when changing the expansion valve.. however, I was replacing the evaporator core also so the dash needed to come out. I wouldnt recommend pulling the dash unless you have to for a leak. Took me like 4 days working off and on to change all the AC components (Condensor, compressor, expansion valve, evaporator core) put the dash back in. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
