Need a new key fob - help, please!

My wife and I misplaced the key fob to our 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD. So, we are down to one key fob and that's it. Yikes.

What's the best course of action for me in this situation? I.E., where can I locate a key that will work and that is reasonably priced? From there, do I need to go to the dealer to have them program it since I don't have the second key to be able to do it myself? I.E., I thought I read you need both keys to add a third? In my case, I only have ONE key, so I feel like I might be in a bad spot.

Also, could I purchase a "blank" key with the "chip" in it and have it cut? Where is the best place to source these two options?

My dealer owes me a "favor," so I feel like I could talk them into programming it for free/very little. I would just like to be able to avoid buying a key/having them cut it. As an aside, I do have an old four button key from a 2008 Ford Fusion. It's been cut, though, so I doubt that's an option.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

For the most part, you are SOL. I see two options (other than finding that lost key): sweet talk your favor with the dealer into getting a good discount on a replacement key or going to a full-service locksmith to have a replacement made. Modern keys aren't cheap. Either way, once you have two keys again, buy another key (or two) and program them yourself as per the owner's manual. My suggestion is to get a price from the local locksmith, then go to your dealer to see what is the best they can do for you. Go with the cheaper key, then start looking for replacement keys. I ordered this one from EBay:

The important part is that you have the right FCC ID number. Not sure on what that is, but when you are at the dealer, try and get the part number for the key. I can't vouch for either of the links above, but it's a start.

Don't forget you don't have to get another remote fob key. You can get a standard key without the buttons which will be a bit cheaper, but you miss out on all those Lock/Unlock features (BUT you can amaze your friends with your keypad entry skills!).

You're going to end up at the dealer for programming no matter what you do, but there are plenty of key options on ebay, you don't have to get one with the buttons, you could just get a cheap PATS key, cut it and then have it reprogrammed. It's possible the one from your Fusion could be made to work, there is probably a big part of the cut that is the same and if you're lucky you might be able to just cut out some of the other parts. Hold them up side-by-side to see if there's any chance.

I once had a friend open the doors of my dad's 1990 Aerostar with the key from his mom's 1985 Crown Vic.

Thanks for the replies, all. I talked to my dealer and am cashing in a "favor" to have the second and third key programmed. Sounds like they will charge me $5 to cut them. So, I'm going to use one of the links above to buy two keys. Thanks again - I appreciate the help!

Update:

Purchased two key fobs from "remotesremotes" for $55, plus shipping. Yes, two. They are generic, but worked fine. Took them to my dealer who cut them for free. They owed me a favor, so they also programmed them for free, too. Cost me $60 to get it all take care of, including the two new key fobs. Major score! Thanks for the advice, all!

Just to be clear, if you order from ebay, also applies to all refurbished fobs, open your key fob down to the battery and write down the number you see. You want the EXACT number on your new one in order to avoid fobs that look right but will not program. I just went through this mess and it wasn't pretty. Good luck guy.

1. Insert the first previously programmed coded key into the ignition.
2. Turn the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
3. Turn the ignition off and remove the first coded key from the ignition.
4. After three seconds but within 10 seconds of turning the ignition off, insert the second previously coded key into the ignition.
5. Turn the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least three seconds, but no more than 10 seconds.
6. Turn the ignition off and remove the second previously programmed coded key from the ignition.
7. After three seconds but within 20 seconds of turning the ignition off and removing the previously programmed coded key, insert the new unprogrammed key into the ignition.
8. Turn the ignition from off to on. Keep the ignition on for at least six seconds.
9. Remove the newly programmed coded key from the ignition.

1.Close all doors, then open drivers door and press the Unlock button on drivers door while it is open, insert key into ignition.

2.Turn ignition from OFF to RUN 8 times within 8 seconds, with the 8th time ending in RUN. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming mode. (if the door locks do not cycle, then it was done incorrectly. You must start over by removing key and beginning from step 1)

(Off is the position where you can remove your key, RUN is the position just shy of starting your car.)

3.Within 10 seconds press any button on the first keyless remote to be programmed. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. If you only have one remote then skip to step 5.

4.Within 10 seconds, press any button on the second keyless remote. Door locks will cycle again to confirm programming. Repeat step 4. for all other remotes.

5.Turn ignition to OFF. Locks will again cycle to indicate end of programming mode.
