Ok I have tested both of my Ford Edge's and one has some issues with the battery and maybe more, but I will replace the battery and retest to see if the charging system still shows signs like it did during the testing. It may be the battery was toast and is causing the erratic behaviot

Sooooo, after watching your video, I decided to break down and buy one.

First test on wifie poo's car and yellow LED. Battery needs a charge. (Oh come now, she just drove home and it was fully charged). It was showing 11.78 volts.... and 477 CCA.

Next morning (yesterday), it didn't have enough to start. Found one of the map lights had been left on. Tested it tonight after she got home an 15.1 volts 736 CCA and green LED. (650 CCA battery).

So I tested my battery in the MKX. Starts every time, strong, looks clean, no problems, right. 14.71 volts.... Got a red LED and 559 cca (650 CCA battery).

Battery works great, passed a Ford garage test, and still got a red LED. Must be a defective cell, so I guess I'll be buying a new battery. (Snort)

Both cars passed charging system tests. (Great way to see what's going on without a hassle).

Thanks for posting this, it really is a great way to (really) test batteries.

I know I was surprised to find my wifes was perfect and the church van battery was toast but the charging system was good also. I had to be sure the SOLAR BA7 was verified so went to the auto skills to confirm the solar reading and sure enough spot on with the diagnosis. I am going to try it on my golf cart batteries this spring although I am not sure it will work on 6v batteries but may work on the 8volt batteries.

I talked to the Auto Skills mechanic and he replaced an alternator on a Lincoln MKX and he said he ended up having to remove the drive axle to get the alternator out. This should be an interesting video and I am planning on two days just to have time to do the work and video the removal process and then the installation.
