Dingo Report post Posted February 5, 2016 So I got some PIAA LED lights. Good pattern (In Daylight): Low: High: At night: Low: High: Installation wasn't too unbearably bad. Had to trim a tab with a Dremel. I highly recommend them.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted February 5, 2016 First off, welcome back, sir! It has been too long! For the uninitiated, you should look back on Dingo's previous HID lighting related posts, pretty awesome stuff. How much did you pay for these, if I may ask? And would you recommend them only with projector lighting? 2007-10's are reflector only.
Dingo Report post Posted February 5, 2016 Thanks! I've kind of had a lot going on personally and professionally. I spent some time on the phone with PIAA's R&D guy today. Most of their testing thus far ha been on reflector lights. Mine is one of a handful of projectors that have been done thus far. I haven't seen them in reflectors, but I imagine they'd do well. In case anybody doesn't know, PIAA is actually a decades old legitimate company that makes very high end stuff. Kind of a Japanese version of Hella. Retail is $300, but they can be had for a little less.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted February 5, 2016 Will have to give these a look for sure. vLEDs was at the top of my list till now
Dingo Report post Posted February 5, 2016 I used to buy all kinds of stuff from them, but I started having quality and supply issues. I have several hundred dollars of their dead stuff sitting here...
Nick Halstead Report post Posted February 5, 2016 not impressed, this kioto Prius LED projector is the only LED I have ever liked and still don't get as much distance with them as an actual HID setup
Dingo Report post Posted February 5, 2016 That's a total retrofit. For $200ish, I'm pleased. And you obviously haven't driven a new s550. Those LED headlights are fantastic.
Nick Halstead Report post Posted February 5, 2016 no I haven't but I haven't seen a good review of them either in the headlight world. actually only seen negative reviews and like all LEDs, they have more foreground lighting.
Dingo Report post Posted February 5, 2016 In a perfect world, we'd all run an LED projector low beam that is properly engineered and a denso HID reflector high beam. This isn't a perfect world and not everyone is made out of money.
fishx65 Report post Posted February 5, 2016 Good to see ya back Dingo!!! If I remember correctly, you used to run DDM hids in your Edge. How do you feel these compare to a 35 or 55/5000 set of Hids???? I'm still running the same 35/5000 DDM kit I installed 4 years ago.
Dingo Report post Posted February 5, 2016 I had 55w TRS HIDs. I went through 4 ballasts. The HIDs make a brighter hot spot right in front of the car, but the LEDs definitely make for better driving.
candurin Report post Posted February 5, 2016 Great to see you back, Dingo. I'm still enjoying my TRS 55w setup. Original everything, 4 years running... So, do you feel that LED gives a lot more useable light? I'm considering the switch, but only if it is truly beneficial. I do like that it would bring back "flash to pass" functionality during the daytime.
Dingo Report post Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) Yes. Much more. And flash to pass is fantastic. Instant on, full brightness. No warm-up. That being said, I didn't like how the lower middle of the beams had a dark spot. Even though driving at night was a pleasure, I felt like I needed some more light directly in front of the car. Well, originally, they looked like this: That little horn at the top is good for reflectors, but makes the dark spot on projectors. On reflectors, it kills glare to oncoming cars. On our projectors with the shutter, this isn't a concern. With the okay from PIAA, I cut them off. This is obviously before I cleaned them up and reinstalled, but the result was fantastic. If I were any happier, I'd poop a clown. Oh, and last night, I did the drive from Knoxville back to Atlanta (3.5 hours) with the horn still on them. Very relaxing and they worked great. candurin Report post Posted February 7, 2016 Interesting... Didn't realize that little "hood" was on all the LED kits (platinum LMZ, OP7, etc). That's a great projector mod for all of them, I'll have to blow the dust off my Dremel.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted February 7, 2016 Another "Dingo mod" Great info, sure to help out many considering LED lighting! As for the clown, those big feet, man ...

nlitend1 Report post Posted February 10, 2016 Have you test on a wet dark road? What is the real world review? I have yet to see much on these, but very interested.
normcloutier Report post Posted February 11, 2016 The adjustable beam looks interesting. You can rotate the bulb.
