Transmission goes into limp mode

Recommended Posts

Every now and then the transmission will kick out of "o/d off" and cancel cruise control, and the transmission repair light will turn on, so I put it in park, turn it off then back on. I hear a clunk when the motor turns over then it's usually find, may need to repeat the off and on step a few times but it acts normally after that, can't find any mechanic or other online source describing my issue. Thanks

How many miles on your Edge? The most frequent issue with the transmission is actually the TSS/OSS sensors, which coordinate input and output speeds.

A much less frequent issue is the torque converter.

The least frequent issue is burnt clutches.

So the Service light (wrench) comes on? Do you have a pic of the lights at the time by any chance? I am thinking its most likely the TSS/OSS sensors that need to ber replaced, along with a complete drain/fill of the fluid. Could be a vacuum leak also, but doesn't sound like it.

I agree it is very common to have this issue after 100k. I just replaced mine at 150k. It is located inside the transaxel case. There is a youtube video on how to do it. Not for the faint of heart.
