Riden and a guiden Report post Posted December 2, 2016 We have a 2008 edge SEL plus. The only problem we have had with it is it sometimes is hard getting out of park. Can the brake sensor be adjusted?
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted December 2, 2016 Welcome, sorry to hear about the issue. How many miles? AWD or FWD? Not quite understanding the brake sensor Q though. Is there a reason you think that is the issue. Have you tried shifting out of Park without starting the car (foot on brake pedal, ignition to ON but not RUN, etc), after it has been sitting a while, or after shutoff? Is this happening on a hill or on flat ground as well? Do you engage the parking brake every time you park? The parking pawl can get worn over time and lead to notchiness. A "remedy" is to shift to N first with foot on the brake, start the car, then shift to whatever gear you need, then release the parking brake. Has the trans fluid ever been replaced? Have you checked its' condition? Do not have these transmissions flushed, only "fluid exchanged". Since the screen is not serviceable without cracking open the transmission case, best to keep the fluid fresh.
Riden and a guiden Report post Posted December 3, 2016 The reason I think it is a brake sensor is because you can't shift out of park unless you're pressing the brake. You can feel it in the shifter when it disengages. You actually have to push the brake fairly firmly. I cannot answer about the fluid change as we just bought the car. It has a 120,000 miles on it, but would never know if you didn't look at the odometer.
WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted December 4, 2016 Hmmm. I am not 100℅ on this, but this is probably standard shift interlock functionality?
omar302 Report post Posted December 4, 2016 If you think it is the brake sensor, check if the brake lights are coming on when you lightly press on the brakes. It is the same sensor/signal for the brake lights & the shift interlock. The sensor is only an on/off switch, it shouldn't matter how hard you press on the brakes.
Riden and a guiden Report post Posted December 4, 2016 By the way, thank you for replying. Yes the brake lights come on with a soft pedal. One thing I should mention. When we test drove it I had noticed a little chrome piece, that I thought was just a cover for the screw. Now I know it is the manual release button for the shifter. Like most cars today, you must push the brake to get it out of park. At first I thought it was the shifter itself. I actually bought it for the little woman. Now that she knows what to do she has not had a problem getting it out of park, but I would like to fix it before it gets worse. Like I said, brake lights work properly but must really firmly stand on the pedal before you feel it release in the shifter. I wish I could be more helpful. I work out of town during the week and have personally only drove it twice.
Riden and a guiden Report post Posted December 9, 2016 What I have found out so for is the shifter is all electronic, which makes perfect sense now. This one has about a two second delay before allowing to pull out of park. Is that the norm on these?

WWWPerfA_ZN0W Report post Posted December 9, 2016 No delay on mine, so I'd say no, not the norm.
