Air condition issue

Recommended Posts

I have a 2007 edge sel awd.....during very hot temperatures, my a/c blows hot air when idling and starts to run hot. But all the fluids are good. It cools when the car is moving..... Any idea what could be wrong?

Possibly the engine cooling fan is not working. I believe it is electric so it could be a sensor, switch or the fan motor itself. When the car is moving, the moving air would provide the cooling that the fan isn't.

I agree, had the exact same thing last summer. Dealer replaced the entire fan unit under extended warranty.

If you do it yourself or go to a local repair shop, go Motorcraft on this, do NOT use aftermarket. (Lot of horror stories and regret with aftermarket fans).

Check the cooling fans with the A/C running, you will see they are not cycling on.

My ac and fan stop working after draining water from ac line, any reasons why?

"draining water from ac line"?

Are you saying that you opened the sealed system and drained it, or that you drained water from the hvac housing?

If the first, you released all of the refigerent and will need to get the system recharged.

If the second, there no corrolation between unclogging the condenser housing drain and the failure of the AC system (unless you somehow punctured the refigerent lines somehow). Have you checked the fuses?

What exactly did you do?

The fan may have been ruined by the water if you had to clean the drain to get the water out of the housing. The fan would still function even if you had no Freon in the system. The fan is an easy replacement and not expensive.

Could be the switch or blend door.

Hi there Singlemom. I have the very same problem. Two weeks ago the passenger side started to blow hot air while the driver worked the AC just fine. I took it to the dealer (3 days before the warranty expired) and they fixed the problem. Two days ago the very same problem came back blowing hot air in the passenger side (I live in the southwest and the hot weather reaches 110 degrees!) and this morning now both sides blow hot air even though the AC is on. Were you able to fix the problem you had? Anyone knows about what can I do?

Please define the problem a bit more. Is it blowing hot air regardless of the speed or only at idle. Does it matter which oulet setting you use, vents, panel, floor etc?

Could be engine fans, low coolant, improper refrigerant level, OR a bad HVAC control module at this point.

Hi there WWWPerfA_ZNOW. I have an Edge Limited 2013' bought it brand new in 2014 from the dealer. I always took it to the dealer while under warranty which expired 600 miles ago. At the end of July of this year, the passenger side only began blowing hot air while the driver side was okay blowing cold air under AC. I took it to the dealer and explain the problem. The very same day I received a call from the dealer that my car was ready. They told me that they updated the software version in the SYNC. It lasted less than three weeks only. Three days ago the very same problem came back (hot air in the passenger side only while AC on and the driver and in the back was okay with cold air); took it to the dealer again and told me that the warranty had expired and that I had to 1) get an appointment which was scheduled to September 7th! and 2) That I have to pay for the repair. Even though I complained about the long wait and that it was only few miles after warranty, they did not receive the car. Reading about some possible problems, I learned that perhaps the cabin filter might not have had been changed so I checked it and replaced it with a new one ( it looked like the dealer NEVER changed it). The next day in the morning while going to work BOTH sides began to blow hot air even though the compressor sounds to kick in when turn the AC on. I have no idea if there is something wrong with the SYNC System or if is mechanical. What do you think?

Sounds like your dealer took the path of least resistance and fixed a totally unrelated problem. Updating Sync (infotainment system) has ZERO to do with what you are experiencing with your climate control system.

Did they check the refrigerant levels? That can also be a sign of a leak in the system.

Did they check the condenser?

Did they check all of the lines?

Worst case: Replace compressor or condenser

agreed w above ^. I would say take it to another dealer, but they may not want to touch the case, or they may be friendly enough to do it for you. Regardless, the best course may be to call up Ford directly at their 1800 customer service number and be gently persistent till they get a regional manager involved. Especially seeing you are barely out of warranty AND the issue began prior to warranty expiration, they should be willing to work with you. It is best to have your dealer initiate a case with Ford directly, but this should also work if the dealer is unwilling.

I want to thank everyone for your kindness and tips about the problem I am facing. I want to update to everyone so that it can help to someone else to face these kind of problems. On Saturday I took my Edge to a AC shop near my home and explain the problem. The person took a very professional attention about what I was experiencing and that the heater was on instead of the AC. In front of me he took the level of the refrigerant and was full. Then he told me that he was going to connect his computer to see what the problem could be. In under 10 minutes the computer said "reload SYNC Program". He kindly asked me if I wanted to proceed and I said yes. It took about 25 minutes to RELOAD, NOT TO UPDATE the system. Al of these was with the engine on. When finished (the computer said SYNC System uploaded successfully). He turned the engine of and started it again. The AC was working back again!!! on both sides with no problems at all. When I asked how much it was for his job, he told me: Do not pay me now. Check the car, use it for a couple of weeks and if everything goes fine, come back and pay $ 40.00 dollars. I asked why pay later? Because, he said, my computer told me what to do, but no why the problem began. Therefore, drive it hoping the problem will not come back and then pay me. Although the problem is fixed right now, I am planning to call 1800 Ford and explain what ZN0W told me to do. I thing he is right about that this issue began before the warranty expired. I want to thank you again you guys and I will keep you updating about this problem in my 2013 Edge Limited.

I am having the same issue where suddenly my car began blowing hot air in passenger side and cool air on drivers side... it's summer in south Florida and I'm looking into how I can fix this issue. Can you please share how you did the sync reset and is the ac still working fine now? I just looked and my sync is up to date. I really don't want to have to replace the blend door actuator!

I'm in the same situation as some of these other folks. My 2013 Edge Limited blows cold air out driver side vents and hot air out of passenger side vents. This happens when system is set to A/C and should be blowing cold air from both sets of vents. This problem happened once before and then cleared up on its own. Can I reload the SYNC system myself from the car or do I have to take my car somewhere to have this done? If I can do this myself can you tell me the procedure for completing the task?
