Will Edge Hood panel fit a 2007Lincoln MKX?

Recommended Posts

Hello - there is limited 2007 lincoln mkx hoods available in salvage and new is ridiculously expensive. There are a LOT of 2007-2010 Edge hoods - the body I hear is the same - if thats true can I use an edge hood for my mkx?

Thanks!!!

You should measure and see for yourself. Who knows, you may net a bargain! Taking a good look at pics side by side may help also.

The leading edge looks different. It may be because of the chrome on the Lincoln but you need to do a close up comparison.

They look darn close, but it would be gamble just the same. Time to go look and take measurements.

The MKX's hood looks shorter, the Edge's seems to have a longer downward curve at the end where it meets the grille.

No. They have different part numbers, so they are different.

2007 MKX

2007 Edge

In 1974 the Lincoln MkIV, Ford Thunderbird and Ford LTD had identical front corner lights excepting the chrome bezel that fit over the lens. The bezel had 7, 3 and 6 horizontal bars respectively. The lens underneath was identical but had different part numbers. Pricing was amusing: around $70 for the MkiV, $60 for the T-Bird and $30 for the LTD.

One word: Bondo.

Seriously, here are the measurements taken off my 09 MKX.

Length along drivers side, from top-of-cowl to chrome trim: 29-1/2".

Width at cowl: 63-3/8" (straight line measurement, not along curve).

Width at front (seam-to-seam, straight line, not along curve): 63".

Length at center, top edge-to-chrome): 31".

A second look at pictures posted that are better than mine. There are 2 major differences I can see. First, on the Lincoln the vertical crease lines along the length of the hood make a sweep at the ends. Two, The Edge has a crease line across the front that blends into the front fenders. The Lincoln doesn't have the crease and will not fit properly.

I just checked EBay for 2007 Ford Edge hoods. There are a number of used OE hoods for sale (about $400 with shipping) and some aftermarket ones for less than half the price of an OE. with free shipping. I can't recommend an aftermarket hood will have the quality of a used OE hood.

I'm sure money is a concern. The pictures I saw on EBay show all the correct holes and attachment points on the back side of the hood. If you don't have a show car I would chance the aftermarket hood. It will definitely be better than trying to fit a Lincoln hood.
