Replacement Options for 21" Pirelli P-Zero Performance Tires

Punctured the sidewall on one of my P-Zeros this morning. I've been looking for a more affordable summer performance tire in 21" since the P-Zeros run upwards of $400 per tire, on sale maybe $250 if you get lucky. I found a couple of options in the $150 per tire range. One was the Radar (Omni-United) Dimax R8+, and I just found these Atturo AZ850 tires on Amazon Prime (free shipping) for $154 per tire. Not bad at all. Wondering if anyone has tried either of these or has comments?

me personally, 21 and performance don't fit. I'd be looking into a 20in wheel combo. Though that may raise the price and doesn't help your current solution. I personally have two dreams, 1 is 4 20x10.5 daily use wheels and 2 18in light weight track only wheels. But both of those are a long way from happening as I have other pending mods that I consider more important

I know you have never been a fan of the 21" set up and now I know why. I have been riding on the stock 20's (same 20's you have) w/ Hankook S1 all seasons for the last few days and I do have to say that the difference in ride quality is much greater than I originally thought (compared to the 21's & P-Zeros), way more suitable for daily drive. I did however just order those Atturo AZ850's for my 21's ($530 all in). Also went out and bought a floor jack and impact wrench so I can switch back and forth easily now.

I put a couple hundred miles on the Atturos this weekend and my first impressions are great, they seem to handle pretty damn well for a $130 tire, no doubt. The hook very well, which is what everyone has been claiming about them. Apparently these tires have become very popular for charger/challenger scat pack owners because of they're good hooking characteristics (and cheap cost of course). They come in 255/50 x 20 also, if anyone is looking for a super affordable performance tire for 20 inch wheels, I think they're even a bit cheaper than the 21's...closer to $115 each. We'll see how they wear in now, they would need to have very disappointing wear characteristics to not justify the price of these.

By now you must have a few thousand miles on them - are they still doing good, and would you buy them again.

I'm considering these, but all the fitment places around here are asking a fortune to fit tires not bought from them, so still need to figure out how I'll get that done.

You can get them from Amazon Prime for $124 each with free shipping, and then also buy the service ad-on for mount/balance. This basically lets you use a local tire shop based on zip code to install them by pre-paying the fee, which is usually about $16 per tire. If you go this route, you are looking at $560 all in. I've got about 7500 miles on mine now and they are still in great shape (I'll post a tread wear picture later today). They are a bargain at that price and I will certainly buy them again. At this rate, I'm expecting to get about 20k out of them. Not much by normal standards, but considering I only got about 8k out of my p-zero's, they are lasting way longer. I drive super aggressive and would go broke buying p-zero's every 10k. Other than wear, I really can't compare them to the p-zero's because I haven't done any canyon runs with the Atturos, but so far there is no reason to not buy them again. I did notice that the p-zeros handle a little better in the rain though. Anyway, here's the Amazon ad:

(don't mind the picture in the ad, its some Hankook off-road tire and not even close to what they actually look like)

Here's after 7500 miles:

Update on Atturo AZ 850's : I put 4 of these tires on my Edge (21") on the recommendation of forum member Roots57 back in January..I liked them, seemed to be a great deal for $525 delivered. Up here in the SF Bay Area where I live the weather has been fairly mild up until the beginning of this month, we have just started to get some sustained hot weather in the 75 - 85F range...This has brought about a serious improvement in the performance of the Atturo's..Lateral adhesion is greatly improved, braking distance is better and the tire just seems to have more 'bite' overall. Not surprising really - it is sold as a HP Summer tire. So the upshot here is if you want these tires to perform.....ya gotta get some heat into 'em.

With tires, you usually get what you pay for. That's not to say I don't understand sometimes they are just cost prohibitive. If I could I'd have Bridgestone or Pirelli's on every street car but I don't.

I'm approaching replacement time for the Atturo which will be the same, or a little more mileage than I got out of the Pirelli P-Zero and they're half the price - of course I'm looking at another set of Atturo's.

I need to correct my predictions.

The original P-Zero lasted 50K miles.

I'm now at 82K miles and will need to replace the Atturo's at 85K miles, so only 35K miles on them vs 50K miles on the P-Zero.

The only negative things I have to report on the Atturo is the flats it gets when parked for a day or two, which is much worse in cold weather, and only 70% life of the P-Zero.

I'm contemplating going with the P-Zero again, but welcome suggestions.

Costco have the Bridgestone - ALENZA AS ULTRA on special until late July - any reviews on these tires?

TireRack reviews. (Remember they are reporting with only a couple thousand miles on them).
