OBD II not connecting to 07 Edge - very rough running

Howdy,

does anyone have any experience with connecting an OBD II reader to your edge??? I'm connecting my Innova 3100 to the OBD port and hitting the link button but only get back "Err". I know the scanner is working as it'll pick up the codes off my 97 Toyota and my 09 PT cruiser. Some background - 242k miles on the Edge. Started lurching/missing while cruising at 50 to 65 (intermittently of course) about a month ago. Also, acceleration power during this period was low too. Been meaning to get to it but now I have too!!!

I was driving it last night and had to hit the gas to pass someone and the lurching/missing went full time - felt like there was a bull under the hood trying to yank the engine out - could feel it in the steering wheel too. The CEL came on and flashed the entire time we drove back home.

Need to connect and read the codes to start troubleshooting. Help please - or the wife can't drive to work!!

Thanks,

Daniel

Obvious question, sorry: is the vehicle key in the On or Started position?

No offense, but you may want to invest in a ODB-II interface that provides more functionality (not only reading, but writing) at a much reduced cost and accessible from Windows, Android and IOS.

I could only find the 3100-j product on Innova's Web site. The documentation states that it can hold up to 3 scanned vehicles. Is it possible you have reached that Max? You could try to reset the device to be sure and try connecting again.

Had similar issues with my 06 Fusion which is the same platform.

Try popping the obd-II port out of the dash so you get more room for the connector. Also check to see if any of the wires in the port have backed out. That was one of my problems.

The other one is a blown fuse not sending power to the connector.

Did you see cv27's comment? Specifically

all that may be needed is to delete a vehicle profile to make room for the Edge? The 3100 should work fine with the Edge, no special OBDII adapters needed. Having said that devices will read the High Speed Canbus or HSCAN, but not all will read the Medium Speed or MSCAN. So you should get the necessary codes to diagnose the issues your Edge is having, no problem.

May be as simple as replacing all the plugs, or plugs AND coils, or PCM (repair/replace) + coils + plugs. Usually that is where the problem lies.
