Backup Camera replacements that work, Please post

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of Post regarding issues with early models of Edge Backup Cameras failing. I have now become a member of that club. (2011 Limited 48K Miles...not that it really makes a difference).

Purchase online from a Ford dealer results in $ 300.00 (+/-) outlay.

finding alternatives that work (no upside down etc crap) is a crap shoot.

Please list what is working for you & where you Purchased to help member out.

I have Forscan already and have enough knowledge with the Program & mechanical skills to do the replacement.

I just am reluctant to purchase something that's not going to work and/or pay stealership parts department insane marks ups (Ive worked at a dealership in my younger years & know the games).

Research has been my best friend, has anyone replace with this one ? (it is not an endorsement and I have no affiliation what so ever) https://avlis-co.com/rear-view-backup-camera-bt4z-19g490-b-replacement-for-2012-edge-limited-sport-utility-4-door/

it can be purchased around the same cost from Amazon (which is where I would purchase with my Prime membership & return policy) . Merchant is saying 100% Money back Guaranteed. This is part of their advertisement "

This Camera is Manufactured by OEM Ford Motor Company and marked with P/N GJ5T-19G490-AD

We offer a 100% money back guarantee if for whatever reason the camera doesn't work for you.

You will receive the exactly Camera as shown in the image listed "

Please Post what has worked for member so others can benefit.

Thanks

Took the gamble bought the camera from Amazon (Same camera / company as in my original post) Avlis-Co. Used my Amazon Points plus 2 day Prime shipping (Basically no out of pocket expense)

Camera works (excellent picture quality & it's right side up), Now the downside....... No Lines or Boxes display for parking assist (not a deal breaker for the cost).

I have tried Forscan & APIM master reset too many time to remember. No Joy on the lines.

I'll keep researching for solutions (perhaps changing code in the "As Built" portion with Forscan ?)

I used the Dremel hack to remove the Bassackward screw the geniuses designed at FORD. and it took longer to think about it than actually took. (Thank you to original poster on that procedure ).

I purchased a replacement camera from E-Bay. Was able to install the camera and the image is good but no guidelines. Bought the OBDLink MX ScanTool and have the FORScan on my laptop. Was able to go in and see the camera configuration but when I try to run it I get the message saying Test aborted. Perform a self-test to identify any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)"

I have no idea what to do going forward, any ideas?

I purchased the Ford OEM camera (big bucks) after trying the $50 ones off ebay with no luck, new camera works great, I have grid lines, but can't zoom in on trailer hitch, and don't have parking aid boxes even though it's turned on in camera settings.

I have a cable and FORSCAN, I can access the vehicle, but don't have the back up camera (can) to perform the re-calibration.

Any Ideas?

Brian

The correct camera Model for your car is model number ET4Z-19G490-A. (There's an earlier model that's also listed for the 2013).

About the only one you can be certain of is OEM (abet the price).

I had the backup lines disappear on my OEM camera. The camera is original with the car. I used the Forscan re-calibration procedure to 're-install' the backup lines. But when I turned the ignition off then back on again the lines disappeared. I did the procedure 3 times with the same results. (I reported this in another thread on the subject.) So apparently recalibrating even a Ford OEM camera can fail to reinstall the backup lines. Its not that big a deal and I have just learned to live with it but it is a bit irksome.

The camera lines disappearing in the 2011 have been reported in other forums. Fix is to replace the camera AND dealer run a RCV Configuration update. This is found under Toolbox>Body>RCV Configuration. If your dealer is having a hard time finding this tell them to look up SSM 22105. This will tell them what camera to replace it with.
