Adding hitch to 2017 Titanium w/o tow package

Recommended Posts

A much better solution.

You'd think it'd be something you could add, and I'd have preferred to stay with the 2.0L...but the 3.5L is what's available and I'm tired of dealing with the problem.

Adding a hitch, wiring, coolers, and hoping they could switch the anti-sway on was beginning to approach $1,000, with no guarantee of success and no warranty...

This was easier back in the old days...

By the way, in case anyone else goes down this path, this document: https://www.fleet.ford.com/resources/ford/general/pdf/towingguides/Ford_Linc_17RV&TTgde_r6_Nov8.pdf

Tells us, on page 16, the answer to my question; The 2017 Edge Tow package (53G) includes:

  1. Trailer Wiring Harness (4-Pin)
  2. Hitch Receiver
  3. Upgraded Cooling Fans
  4. Radiator Upgrade
  5. Trailer Sway Control

...not sure why dealers can't tell me that...

It looks the same for 2015, 2016 (both on page 14) and 2018 (also page 16).

...not gonna add all that for reasonable money...

Not sure if this thread is still alive, but in case anybody needs it in the future. Attached is a list of the exact additional factory modifications for the 53G trailer towing option package. The entire document is applicable to the 2017 models and may be found here:

Does anyone have any real life towing experience of what the most significant risk would be if the weight limits were exceeded by a minimal amount - say 500 lbs? And what precautions should you take to minimize the risk of damage? Im assuming maintaining a slower speed and keeping a close eye on the engine temp? Would it be advisable to disable traction control?
