2 Observations on the 2016 Edge (Cowl + Vista)

So, looking around I noticed 2 things:

 

1. Under the hood, at the cowl, just infront of the hood to cowl weatherstrip, there are two pieces of hard foam/insulation, one on each side, they same to make a case for supporting the hood, but at the same time kind off reduces the contact pressure between the hood the full weatherstrip. Also looking for online photos, not all Edges have them.
2. There is a weatherstrip making a U-shape under the vista glass, starts from one side under the rear glass & goes all the way around the front then back to the other side. What is strange about it is that it does NOT touch the glass. If that is correct I'd guess it is there for looks and/or air barrier. I think this is the part.
