Gas tank recall?

Recommended Posts

I just got a letter yesterday from ford telling me that they will supply me with a rental car for $30 a day so I don't have to drive my Takata front passenger equipped 2007 Edge. (No Gas or Insurance)

I may go for it depending on the available cars for $30. I don't want to be in anything smaller than an escape.

The letter states that Ford expects to have replacement airbags by the third or fourth quarter of 2018.

It will stop me from adding mileage to my 2007 with 129,000 miles. They also state that the car should be kept at home during the wait. Good thing, I hate the thought of leaving it outside on a dealers lot and not running it for an extended period which is what they did when people were waiting for gas tanks. I always keep my cars in a garage which really preserves them and i will have the opportunity to drive it around once in a while.

This deal is not because of Fords good nature. The letter states that this is in accordance with federal law.

This is Lincoln's official stand on it:

Ā

"Based on currently available technical data, the Lincoln Motor Company understands that the vehicles involved in the recent Takata recall are safe to drive while you are waiting for replacement parts. You should have the repair completed as soon as possible after you are notified that parts are available."

The previous recall letter told me to use the car but don't put passengers in the front seat. They gotta be kidding lol. I wonder if they have different letters for different severity of the problem. This car was originally from Louisiana and then Arizona. Hot and Humid and then just Hot. It qualifies for the first round of replacement.post-31363-0-94675900-1529454050_thumb.jpg

I purchased the car from the original owner.

It had a Louisiana dealership sticker on the hatch so I know the cars history. a few years in Louisiana and after a few years in Arizona. Then north to Connecticut.

(Another hint is the leather seats without seat heaters)

This was a good thing when the recall was for the gas tank. It was replaced although it still looked like new. No New England rust.

I agree that they should have been changed already. Ford and the dealerships tell me that the replacements will not be available until the second or third quarter of this year.

If anyone knows differently please fill me in. I'm getting tired of having my mother-in-law sit in the shrapnel seat LOL

We got the rental- two actually. One for our Fusion and one for our Edge.

Ā

Fusion rental is a Hyundai Elantra. Great mileage with a correspondingly weak engine. Ugly as hell. I like it overall, but mainly because it gets 35+ MPG without me even trying.

Ā

Edge rental is a Subaru Outback wagon. Way uglier than the Hyundai, and it has a really bad intermittent rough idle with only 6K miles on it. Wife wants a different car when we "re-up" at 30 days.
