Wanting an LMS tune

I tried searching and found a lot of information, but a few large details are still unclear to me.

How do I go about getting a tune?

What do I need?

From what I understand, I can have 4 tunes plus stock. Is this choosing from a database of tunes?

I plan to upgrade my intercooler and cold charge pipe, and BOV, which would have an effect on the tune. How do I retune for that?

Never tuned a car before.

If someone could educate me(and others who may be lurking) how to go about this, Id appreciate it.

It can be daunting if youve never done it before, but its actually incredibly easy.

I can only speak from an SCT perspective as Ive never used the LMS tuners, but here it goes.

I would just go on the Livernois motor sports and engineering website and get their phone number. Give them a call, tell them what youre looking for, and theyll ask you for a few pieces of information about the car. From there you purchase, they ship it to you and you plug it into the ODB-II port and follow the instructions to upload the new Calibration to the vehicles computer. Voila, youre done!

I may have left out some of the finer details, but I dont feel they warrant an explanation.

LMS is easy, buy tuner, plug into car, get strategy code and email to LMS. They tell you when tune is ready, you install their software to a PC and update tuner.

Choices are tow, 87, 89, 93, 100 race, e30. Firm shifts are available, standard tune is performance.

Calling and asking questions is easy but sales people don't have the same experience as those of us who use it daily and research the heck out of it.

Thanks guys. Would you say its worth the money for just daily driving? I probably won't be going to the track at all. I do like horsepower though, and I do like to use it. I have a tune on my supercharged Seadoo, and it is definitely worth it there.

And with a tune, is there still a difference between Drive and Sport?

I did join the facebook group yesterday actually.

The difference is about 100hp on 93, I consider that huge. There certainly is a difference regular to sport. Sport is always 1 gear lower than drive, always in the power band, never have to try to accelerate, a sneeze will push you past most cars.

I only drive Sport.

Drive can trick people into thinking it's stock.

Good to read. Just got a 2018 Sport and been wondering about Tunes. Coming from Subaru I am used to just having a tuner in the car to get my car setup. Sounds like for the Edge the off the shelf tunes do very well on the Edge.

I did not know being in Sport modes changes your shift points like they do. Dealer told me it was just for using the paddles to shift. I have not owned a Auto since 2003.

Maybe slightly off topic, but would the tune allow Sport mode to go to 6th gear automatically? In stock form Sport mode will only shift till 5th, that is automatically not using the paddles.

My Unleashed Tune will go into 6th if just driving on the freeway and constant speed while in Sport. All this is tunable. You can ask the Tuner to turn on the gear indicator as well to see what gear it is in for both Drive and Sport.

Got my tuner yesterday in the mail. Another question. When going from an 87 tune to a 93 or vice versa. With 87 in the tank and wanting to run a 93 tune. How empty does the tank have to be of 87 before filling with 93? Are we talking like 0 miles to E with 5 miles left till the gas station or would 50 to E be fine, what do you do?

Ill probably run the 93 tune most but Im guessing the tune for towing will be 87. I requested a 93 but I dont know if that would make sense or not.

This may not be the best practice, but in the past I have always gone under 1/4 tank of 87, then fill up with 93, install the tune. Then I sorta take it easy with the first tank and by my second fill up from under 1/4 tank I will allow myself to drop the hammer!

Its not ideal to run mixed gas like that but the only real danger in this would be at WOT on your first tank of gas. But even still there is enough timing wiggle room built in that its not a huge deal, unless you told the tuner you want to run the most aggressive tune they can make.

Yes I mostly drive in sport as well. Does anyone know of anyone that uses the tow tune? I do tow a two place seadoo trailer regularly.

I use the tow tune 91oct to tow my 6x10 utility trailer with everything from my motorcycle to misc cargo, no problems. I really don't notice any difference but the directions are bold faced "do not tow in performance tune" So when I tow, I do take the time to switch to "tow" tune. Not sure what changes are made to engine or tranny?

Thanks for the info. Makes complete sense. The only reason I would switch back and forth between octanes would be to tow, unless they can give me a 93 tow tune. Then Ill stick with 93 all the time. I guess I should just wait and see what they can give me. I also stuck with the performance and tow, I didnt ask for any aggressive or firm shifts.

I noticed that as well, dont tow with performance tune.
