Squealing, whirling or clicking noise under hood on long trips

In January 2017, my wife and bought a new 3.5 liter AWD Ford Edge Titanium. Love the Edge but we have one continuing problem since purchase. On three long trips from Oklahoma to Western New York and side trips to Lexington, KY, Hot Springs, AR and Dallas, TX and even some short trips within Oklahoma, there is either a squealing or whirling noise coming from the middle to right side of the vehicle’s middle front. When driving into a gas station or other location at a slow speed, the loud sound appears to be timed to the rotation of the right wheel. The sound can be heard from the exterior as well as we have seen people turn their necks to see what the noise was about. We are afraid that this could lead to a serious incident on the highway. We have taken this to our dealership three times but the sound isn’t there if the car is driven for shorter distances. The Ford mechanic said he looked under the car but says to bring it back when the sound reappears. Of course, we are on longer trips when the sound starts.

We now have about 30,500 miles on the vehicle and planning another trip to New York (grandkids) in September. Anyone have any suggestion that I could give to our Ford mechanic before we leave to help solve this concern?

I would second the wheel bearing, because that is basically what happened with my 2007. The car would behave fine unless a) it was fully loaded with passengers, AND b] I was driving for an extended period of time. But usually it was while trying to make a left turn or turning left, you could feel the right wheel drag, and I would hear something like cymbals or ball bearings rolling loosely. I checked the RF tire, and you could see the wear/feathering from being dragged. The dealer finally acknowledged the RF bearing was at fault and replaced it.

A very few Gen 2 Edges have had issues with the axle/bearing, so more fuel for the fire. Of course, since so few have had issues, there is no bulletin from Ford on it.
