O2 Sensor P0430 & P0420

2011 Edge Limited 3.5. w/140,000 miles:

I'm getting error code P0430 (Bank 2) and P0420 (Bank 1).

I don't have a fancy scanner to read the actual sensors so I took it to Autozone to read. (I don't prefer to go there but my only option).

Right off the bat, he says, "It's your Cat". I was wondering if I'm tossing away money by trying to replace the cheaper parts (O2 sensors) first to see if that cures the problem. I can clear out the codes with my low end scanner and it says off for a while. Sometimes only the P0430 comes back without the P0420.

What is your thoughts?

My two cents are to get it diagnosed correctly. It could be many things. Some of what I have heard by reliable sources is sometimes the "new" O2 aftermarket sensors are not as good as the old OEM that you are throwing away by replacing them. You could have a leak, bad wires, fuel trim, etc. Again, my two cents....
