Unlock when driver/passenger door opens?

Recommended Posts

Help! I just got a 2007 Ford Edge and I need some help.....

I want to know if there is a way to program the car to open all of the locks when either the drivers door OR the passenger door is opened?? I hate it when I hop out of the car and run around to the rear passenger side to grab something and the doors are still locked! I want all of the locks to open when EITHER the driver or passenger doors are opened and the car is in park. Is that possible? I am guessing there is some combination of the Autolock and Autounlock features that I am missing.....But I just can't figure it out. Can someone explain it to me like I am a 3rd grader? (which I am not I swear!)

Thanks!

Dis-engage the child locks. My '08 unlocks all doors when I open the driver door.

This feature buggs me TOO!!

But my wife KNOWS that all those thousand and thousands of car jackers that live in our neighborhood will IMMEDIATELY jump in the car with us.

Do you have an owners manual?

You can download one from here.

http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid=&kevin=rules

Looks like youre NOT going to get the passenger door to UNlock ALL the doors.

But the drivers door should Unlock them with autoUNlock ACTIVATED.

I copied this from our PDF 08 MKX owners manual.

Autolock feature

The autolock feature will lock all the doors when:

all the doors are closed,

the ignition is in the 3 (RUN) position,

you shift into any gear putting the vehicle in motion, and

the vehicle attains a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for greater

than 2 seconds.

The autolock feature repeats when:

any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the 3 (RUN)

position and the vehicle speed is 9 mph (15 km/h) or lower, and

the vehicle then attains a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for

greater than 2 seconds.

Deactivating/activating autolock feature

Your vehicle comes with the autolock features activated; there are four

methods to enable/disable this feature:

Through your authorized dealer,

by using a power door unlock/lock procedure,

using a keypad procedure (if equipped), or

or by using the instrument cluster message center (if equipped). Refer

to Message center in the Driver Controls chapter.

Note: The autolock feature can be activated/deactivated independently

of the autounlock feature.

Power door lock switch autolock enable/disable procedure

Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all

vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 15 within 30 seconds

or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be

repeated, wait a minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again.

1. Place the key in the ignition and

turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN)

position.

2. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three

times.

3. Turn the ignition from the 3

(RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK)

position.

4. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three times.

5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp

one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active.

6. To enable/disable the autolock feature, press the unlock control, then

press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was

deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was

activated.

7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once

to confirm the procedure is complete.

Power door lock switch autounlock enable/disable procedure

Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all

vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 15 within 30 seconds

or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be

repeated, wait a minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again.

1. Place the key in the ignition and

turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN)

position.

2. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three

times.

3. Turn the ignition from the 3

(RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK)

position.

4. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three times.

5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp

one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active.

6. To enable/disable the autounlock feature, press the lock control, then

press the unlock control. The horn will chirp once if autounlock was

activated.

7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once

to confirm the procedure is complete.

hope this helps

I apologize, I must have mis-read your post. I think it would also be nice for the passenger door to unlock all the doors. Especially when I dump the wife off at the front of the grocery store and she gets out and has to open the rear door to grab her purse and god knows what else.....I always get the sound of the handle pull followed by a very loud "C'mon !!!! Then I proceed to hit the lock button making her think the door is open only for her to find it is not. She caught on quick to this as she knows the sound difference of lock/unlock. And yes, she reminds me daily that I am a real asshole.

Thin Line,

My issue is similar except instead of a wife it is a 12 year old who is reaching for his backpack/trumpet/computer. He hops out and grabs the handle and nothing....He doesn't "C'mon" me he just keeps yanking on the handle til I push the button....Its annoying. So if anyone has a solution I am all ears!

Turn off autolocks or hit the unlock button each time.

Not sure about the 07-10, but for my '11, there's the autounlock feature that unlocks the car when thrown in Park.

Really..... On my 2011 it only unlocks the doors when I open the drivers door.

Where did you find this setting in the 2011?

Not according to the OM. Does yours work differently?

Autounlock feature (if enabled)

The autounlock feature will unlock all the doors when:

• the ignition is on, all the doors are closed, and the vehicle has been in

motion at a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h);

• the vehicle has then come to a stop and the ignition is turned off or to

accessory; and

• the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of the ignition being

turned off or to accessory.

Note: The doors will not autounlock if the vehicle has been

electronically locked after the ignition is turned off and before the driver

door is opened.

I've got the 2012 edge with this annoying problem of the locks not opening when shift into park or get out of the car. I've read about the articles here and don't find them to fix the problem. Also there's other stupid issues like the my-key always comes up. Yeah its my fault for hitting the button but there should be a lock out to keep from changing the information view bar while driving. I think Ford could have designed the information view flow better. Who care about My key.  Also the brake booster has gone out twice and has been replaced. I guess I'm just venting some steam but I'll never buy another Ford., PERIOD.

Thanks for letting us know.

If you don’t want MyKey why did you turn it on?

The locks aren’t supposed to unlock when you shift into park.  Only when you open the door and only if you have that option turned on.

The door unlocks when you pull the door handle to open the door, there's no need for it to unlock when  put into park and is done that way for safety.

It's great if you have kids but I haven't had to use it yet so  can't help you there.

The brake booster sounds like bad luck since they aren't a common problem, unless the replacement part wasn't a ford part then you are misplacing some of you frustration.
