  1. I can relate ....

    On my former Expedition.

I come out of work one day to a flat front tire. I was pissed, but it happens. I open up the back, get the jack out, loosen up the lugs, open the hood, take out the crank for the jack/spare, lift the truck, remove front tire. Go to rear of truck to lower spare, insert crank in hole proceed to turn handle, turns quite easily....????..... Get down on one knee to find...... my spare was stolen. Buggers cut the cable that hoists and holds the spare in place.

    I freaked out.

Now all four on my Edge......Look out!

  2. All of my electronics are located in the spare tire well. For the rear Lic plate I threaded the leads thru the rubber boot that goes from the vehicle to the rear hatch, this was a major PITA. The rear trim panels (all of them in the car, in fact) come off real easy just pull the two screws in the hand holds and they just pop off. I was then able to remove the entire back trim piece ( ford logo) that has the lights for the plate in it by unbolting 4 nuts, these are found below the rear glass in access holes. You will need an extension and a deep socket. I then threaded the wires for my lights thru the existing weep/drainage holes and attached them with 3m tape. No drilling necessary! ( I bought mine so I can go a little further, call me a whacker)

  3. Hello

Anyone get creative and install strobes, dash lights, etc on their Edge? I have a single dash mounted blue LED strobe that is held on to the windshield by suction cups. Thinking about putting some strobes in my tail lights.

Pictures would be nice if you have them.

    Thanks

Here is my Edge...... I have put in strobes. Difficult job in front as you must remove entire front bumper and grill to remove headlights/markers. To install strobes w/o removing headlight assembly causes shavings to accumulate in the housing ( dont ask how I know) use a shop vac in the removed hi beam lamp hole to vacuum while drilling. Do the same in the rears ( dont ask again)

  4. OK- one more problem. I keep my lights in the auto position with the fog light switch pulled out. I also have a remote starter. When I start the Edge with the starter, the HID's turn on, and then turn off when the engine turns over. Once your in the vehicle, the only way to get the headlights back on is to turn the light switch to the off position, then back to the auto position.

This will be an unsolvable problem for you. It has to do with how the remote starter energizes specific systems in the car.

  5. I have a new Lincoln MKX and want to install some Motorola commercial radios with antennas. This vehicle is leased, so I want to be minimally invasive with screws and holes.

Anyone installed 2way VHF/UHF antennas on the MKX or Edge? Thoughts and ideas welcomed.

    Kim

I have an edge w/ bamr and I dont have much to work with. There isnt a suitable ground plane on mine w/ the bamr. Without the bamr, and without drilling a hole, I think you have much the same problem.

  6. One of my 'contacts' at the local salvage yard has informed me they brought in a 2007 SEL+ with a 'totaled' rear end. The interior (Camel) and front end (Creme) appear to be undamaged. The Edge will soon be declared salvage and sold to the yard. He has offered me some first pickings!

I am interested to find out whether or not the NAV unit or the Auto Climate control can be retrofitted to my SEL which is equipped with the standard MP3/CD and manual climate unit.

    Anyone have information??

    Do you have the subwoofer?

It should be a direct drop in if you have the subwoofer-

    Not sure of the climate

  7. Yes, there are two places you can have it done:

    Contact Dominic at ARC 781-721-0092

or Call Chicago parts and sound. 630-350-1500 Ask for Ray.

ARC charges $150 but if you mention that Stan refered you for $100, they are cool and will do it for $100.

The chicago parts and sound I read on a forum somewhere charges $100 which is nice because I live 15 minutes away from the place. However, when I called and asked for ray, he said it was $200. I asked if he would do it for $100 and he told me to ask the owner which was a total dick and said $200 non negotiable.

Either way it is still cheaper than having a dealer do it because most dealers simply ship it to either of these two places to have the reprogramming done. I am installing mine on friday and I hope that it works without reprogramming. If not, I'd really like to get it done close to home at the chicago parts and sound. Maybe if I can get a few units in and show him there is interest from the Edge fan community, he can offer a discount. Let me know if you are interested and I'll stop by there this weekend and ask.

Wow great info - I am interested but dont go run out just yet - I still have to get the head unit in hand. I will keep in touch.

  8. Related to another thread, I am interested in possibly getting a OEM nav system reprogrammed by my dealer and I am wondering what a typical charge would be for this service. I know that this uses the obdII system and should be relativity quick. But the dealer I went to wanted $400.00 to reflash this radio, which I think is ridiculous.

    Any Input?

    Chaz....

  9. When I purchased my 2007 Ford Edge SEL it was from Dealer Stock so I did not have theoption of which radio to choose. After a few weeks I decided to put in a Factory Ford Navigation Radio rather than go the aftermarket route.

I went on ebay and pruchased a unit which was from a 06/07 Explorer or Mountaineer, which has a Ford Part # 6L2T-18K931-BC. The Edge Ford Part #'s are 7T4T-18K931-BA and 7T4T-18K931-AG which are Premium or Audiophile units and would require no reprogramming to match the vehicle. I have seen one of these part #'s on an ebay auction. I am also attaching a PDF file that I used to help me with my radios search on ebay to make sure that I was getting the right plug configuration and mounting type.

The radio did not come with an antenna, so that was my next search. First I had to find the part # which specifically for the Edge is 7T4Z-10E893-A, although 8G1Z-10E893-A will also work. I found the antenna on Amazon.com through Troy Ford by entering in the base part # 10E893 in the search window.

The whole installation takes maybe 30 minutes and it is all plug and play. I will post pictures in the near future of the installation.

The best part about it is that all the factory items cost me less than buying a Pioneer or Kenwood Nav Radio! I am also going to change out the factory speakers with Kenwood speakers front and rear.

I hope this helps for anyone else looking to perform a similar upgrade to their Edge!

Did you have to have this unit reprogrammed to work in the Edge?

  10. Well I just picked up my Edge SEL+ yesterday!

Black on black + bamr, 18" chrome

Saturday it gets tint + alarmed.

So far I love it. I am working on installing some accessory lighting ( I am a Volunteer EMT) and I must sat that Ford has made it easier to remove interior trim and panels. This makes life so much easier and stress free. Anyone running wiring knows what I am talking about. You just have to look out for all those airbags!
