  1. I see the "Poll" is showing an amazing high % of respondents going with the Blizzak DMV1. Is that because that is "Tire Rack's" recommendation? It appears to me that the DMV1 is a bit more than one needs for the Edge and that the Blizzak WS-70 fits the bill better as it has the same load rating and the OEM summer tires at 104; the load rating on the DMV1 is 108. Being that the performance of both tires is relatively the same why would everyone pay $42 more a tire (here in Canada, $245 vs $203)?

  2. Search the forum and you may find what I saw a while back. You can get the programmer for little money and do that part yourself. $20 comes to mind.

Thanks I looked around but only found one that works with older style band type sensors. The 2011 has the new valve stem type. It was a few years ago and the procedures were there as well and $16. I'll contact Ford tomorrow.

  3. Hi all,

Going through the winter tire process myself. I was told via a retailer here in Ottawa that the TMPS sensors have to be set-up with the car each time you switch the tires in and out. That would be twice a year at $50 each time; that's what he quoted. So $100 each year plus $200 for the sensors up front. Total = $700 over 5 years. Yikes!!!

Can anyone confirm this and / or is there an easy way to do it yourself?

    thanks,

  4. I had the exact same thing in my car on the passenger side. I just pushed the piece closest to the seat back in and it snapped in place. If I recall I think I pushed it back into place in more than one place and it snapped both times for me.

My daughter noticed it on Day 2 of my car. It's been fine since that time and I'm at about 5 weeks now. Must be an assembly problem. I originally thought maybe a temperature expansion contraction thing.

    Wilson,

Also I just looked at your picture, I think you can see the snap in the picture. That's about where I pushed it in. If I recall it will snap in and then in my case there still was a little gap somewhere else and I just pushed around there and I heard another snap and it all closed up.

  5. I never sit in the passenger seat so I didn't notice this right away.

The right side of the console is not snapped together.

This picture is looking at the console just above the passenger seat and below the silver trim, looking toward the back of the car.

Has anyone else seen any mis-aligned pieces in their car?

  6. I had made up my mind to buy an Edge almost 4 months ago, but kept putting off the order till I could test drive the Sport. My sister, who is the Associate GM at the local Ford dealer, bought the first Limited that arrived on the lot and after testing it I figured the Sport will be as good (just a bit slower and completely blacked out). So, today I decided to place my order for a FWD Sport and was told they had an AWD Sport with every option on the books and the color combo I want, coming in two weeks.

I wasn't going to get every option (just Navigation), but now I am torn between waiting longer for the one I want or spending a fair amount more for a fully spec'd version that I can have the week after next. My sister being the saleswoman, is trying to convince me that the two or three times a year that I go to skiing will make AWD worth it. I have never had AWD or 4WD, just 2WD sports cars, which I have driven up to Tahoe plenty of times (although it is sometimes a bit sketchy). Anyone have opinion one way or the other regarding whether the AWD is worth the extra money? I haven't gotten a price quote on the FWD, but based on MSRP the AWD they have coming in will be 45K (every option) and my spec will be 38K, obviously won't be paying that, but the price difference should be somewhat similar.

Also never had AWD but I went FWD due to better gas mileage and way less problems with the car. If you check out some web sites on # of repairs the AWD is something like 3 or 4 times more likely to be taken in for repair. Also AWD go for getting going in the snow but stopping is no better than FWD. Never had AWD and I've always been fine in all snow condtitions up here in Canada.

  7. Just an update on the "Advance Trac" warning and application of the brakes, felt like ABS engaging for split second numerous time, there apparently was a problem with the RCM module. I was unsure that was the reason as I thought the RCM was only for the air bag but....after a week of driving the new RCM module seems to have solved the problem. I guess just a bad part.

Glad to hear not too many with everyone... yet....but something seems weird with Ctl-z 's car. I'd take that one in.

So, 3,000 km (1,850 miles) and still feeling good about the car.

  8. Stupid question now...so, if all the same software / version is being used off the assembly line, how is it that some people have issues and others don't?? Why would it be working fine in some cars and not in others? This would go for any of the challenges we've read about so far.

This is something I don't get? Did some of the software not "load" properly via wifi while going down the assembly line?

I agree with Wilson..., I think it all depends on how much of the potential in the software you use or try to use. Concerning the KM / miles problem, that probably is only noticed by those in Canada as they would most likely have everything in KM.

  9. Ok, I've had my car a month now and a few problems, 1 major that is not solved yet.

First, I agree with everyone that I really like the edge. The Nav system and Sync have some bugs that will be fixed I'm sure. I'm one of the ones with the announcements in miles while everything else is shown in KM. It is a problem with the software not holding the KM setting when the car is shutoff. If I switch from KM to miles and back to KM then all announcements are in KM; until I shut off the car and it defaults back to announcements in miles. This problem has been escalated to enginnering.

Nav system takes some learning but works pretty well. Sure wished there were folders and more space for storing destinations. Right now only 25. I've got 25 soccer fields alone.

The only major problem I've had is that the advancetrac service warning keeps coming on and this weekend the car started to grab only on the front driver wheel. It felt like the ABS was on for a split second and then off for 2 seconds and then repeated sometimes up to 12 times. Took in on Tuesday and they've narrowed it down to a faulty RCM (restraint control module). I thought that module only dealt with the air bag system. Not sure how it works with the AdvanceTrac or did they tell me the wrong module. Maybe it is the RSC module?

Now have no car for 5 days while new part comes in as AdvanceTrac cannot be shutoff manually.

    Great!!

  10. I got mine in mid September and have the same problem. I had a funny thing happen, though. On day 2 of owning the vehicle, the voice spoke metric, for about 6 hours. Except for that short interlude, all voice distances have been in miles. Very strange, and very annoying.

Ok I found the problem and have a short term solution.

Just came back from a trip to Toronto. I got the Nav to work properly by going from "Km" to " Miles" and then back to "Km". Then the announcements are in "Km" from then on. If you shut off the car, the announcements go back to "miles". The setting that you use to flip between KM/Miles stays at KM and all the instruments still stay metric but for some reason the announcents default to miles..

What I think has occurred is that a US version of the software was installed that defaults to miles but allows you to switch to km if you travel to Canada. What is needed is a Cdn version that defaults to km and that allows you to switch to miles when you travel to the US.

You probably flipped from Km to miles during your 6 hour trip which allowed it to work, then you shut off the car.

  11. Same here. I have the same issue. Yesterday handup with another issue, my steering wheel controls do not sync with my navigator. There is no response when pressing the OK key. As well as I lost the voice notification for turn by turn. I have an appointment with at the dealer tomorrow. Will keep you posted

Any update? What did the dealer say? Did they have any suggestions?

  12. Nice, wonder how many others have this issue?

Should have done a poll, I'm curious to know if other 2011 owners are no having this issue and why it's in certain vehicles only that this is happening?

Any news from the dealer on a fix yet?

    Tony

    Hi Tony,

Probably only happening with vehicles setup in Canada as no one in the US would have set up with km. Have not heard anything from the dealer yet. He told me he was going to take one of their 2011's that's on the lot and try out that Nav system. That was yesterday but haven't heard back yet.

  13. I'll be ordering a 2011 Limited AWD as a lease with the Driver entry package and Vision package. Can anyone tell me if they have the vision package and is it worth getting. Also is that in addition or does it replace the rear backing sensors. I think I will try to add the navigation if that's possible also

    Thanks in advance guys

Only glitch I've had so far is with the software set to kilometers instead of miles, all instruments show km but the direction announcements are in miles.

  14. Just picked mine up yesterday with a whole 6 km (3.5miles) on it. It is beautiful and very impressive. The MyTouch takes a bit to get used to as do a few little things but if you like gadgets....this is great!!

First impressions: Back-up camera is perfect. I wouldn't recommend it but you could basically just use the image on the screen to back-up if you had too as long as no chance of a fast moving car coming. It has a wide view angle.

I have the Sony sound system with 12 speakers. Great sound and can get very loud if you crank it. I can't get much above about 40% of the way to the highest setting without my ears hurting. It is crystal clear and the subwoofer is just right. Now, it's not gonna rattle the whole car but you definitely can tell that there is a subwoofer in the back.

Ride is a bit quieter and tighter than the 2010 that I test drove a few times. Interior noise is small. You can hear the road a bit but nothing to write home about.

Navingation system is perfect except for a small software glitch for us in Canada that has all the instructions on the screens in metric but the announcement for turns in miles. I'm sure that will get cleaned up in an update to the software.

I've played with voice control a bit. It's ok for some things and misses on others and can be a pain in the but sometimes. There is a learning curve as well on that so be prepared. I'm getting better each day and learning what I can and cannot do. By no means is this close to being 100% but it is beneficial and I guess I'll just have to learn what works and what doesn't work with it. I'd say it's probably about 50% of what I expected. Basically, useful but not perfect.

Haven't done anything with the phone yet so cannot comment but I expect it to be very good given the rest.

Just a lot of other nice little things but I won't spoil all your fun. So far a great job and I'm very impressed.

  15. Hi,

Just got my Edge yesterday and I love it. I've found one little glitch that I'm hoping someone knows the way around it to fix it. I'm in Canada so I've set the measurements to kilometers rather than miles. In doing so the left driver screen shows in liters per 100 kilometers instead of MPG which is how I want it. The right screen shows all navigation turns and instructions in kilometers and meter to the turn. So that is working ok. On the main screen any instructions are shown in kilometers and meters; that is working ok. Now here's where the problem comes. When the distance to turns is announced over the speakers it is saying 0.1 miles to the turn rather than something like 150 meters.

I can't seem to find anywhere to specify the units for the announcing. Is this a glitch in the software?

    thanks,

  16. Does anyone know how long they typically sit on the ramp before thay get shipped out? Mine has been there since Friday and I am just curious about how long I should plan on it being there.

Mine was on the ramp for less than a day but all that means is maybe there were more cars going my way to make a load. Have you contact @fordcustservice on twitter. They are the most up to date on status that I know.

  17. Freddie,

As of this morning mine shows all that information also. It says that it was installed yesterday. I was told mine is scheduled to a ramp for monday and according to my sticker it will be traveling by truck also. I am a 5-6 hour drive to so if you happen to be in the Cleveland Ohio area it sounds like our edges might be traveling to Cleveland together.

    jgilles,

Nope, not travelling together. I'm 6 hours the other way in Ottawa and no border to cross so hoping to have mine by the weekend.

  18. I just got an update that as of Saturday the 11th my Edge is sitting at Ramp 60 awaiting shipment! Does anyone know approximately how long they typically sit there before they ship? My sticker says shipment method Convoy so I am not sure if that will make a difference or not? Thanks for any insight as the anticipation is really starting to overwhelm me!

If I understand correctly, Convoy means by truck and not rail. That's all.

  19. Not sure why "Check your VIN" msg is displayed

This is what mine looks like the attached picture

Well, just checked the "syncmyride" site and everything is fixed now and it shows the exact software installations as yours Wilson. So we're in the same boat at this point. Still hoping that I'll get mine late next week. I'm only a 5 - 6 hour truck ride from Oakville. Fingers and toes crossed.
