  1. With the Nav screen locked, how do you find a new route to avoid a traffic backup? Can you do this by voice? Other systems allow chosing a new route while driving (Acura) or automatically select one when a traffic allert is received (Acura and many other systems with real time traffic). I want an Edge but this is a the deciding factor for my wife. It is not practical to stop in most traffic situations.

While driving home from work today I told Sync "Navigation Detour". It confirmed the command and asked me how many miles out of the way I wanted to go. How about that!

The Nav user manual has a small reference on page 80 regarding this capability. Pretty hard to find but it's 160 pages. Ugh.

  2. For those of you that have the 2008, this does have the USB connection, correct?

Not the audio connector, but the USB, right?

I was just noticing in pics of the 2008 (from the FORD site) that the only connector it shows is the round (audio) one like you use with headphones...

But I keep reading that you are able to charge your ipod and connect ipod via USB port in 2008...

    Hope I am correct!

    Thanks for any help...

I have a 2008 Limited. Yes, it does accept a thumb drive with a USB port. My 2 Gig drive is loaded with ~ 600 songs.

  3. The color was the vapor silver, so I didn't take any photos since we've seen one on this site in detail already. Had the all black leather interior. I didn't think I'd like the silver until I got up close to it. Now I think I have to consider silver as well.

As far as I remember, when pressing the tailgate button in the handle, the door does assist you, but don't quote me about closing it because I'm not exactly sure. I think the dealer actually did it, not me. The liftgate thing is cool, but in my opinion, the hardware used to raise and lower it that's inside the "trunk" area is not at all attractive. It sticks out and looks bulky. To each their own, though.

The door opener will work if you touch the open button on the outside of the lifgate. To close it, hit the button just inside the liftgate. It beeps pauses then automatically closes. The power liftgate is great in the rain/snow or if you have physical issues reaching up -- I do.

I've been playing with the Sync. I use a simple thumb drive ~ 500 songs. I can get Sync to voice respond to playing "playlists" that I set up on my laptop and copied to the thumbdrive. Fun.

  4. I read up a bunch about all-weather (rubber) floor mats on this forum. Now that there's a new slew of 2008 owners on here I was curious as to what mats you'd all be purchasing to protect ur Edge from the upcoming winter season. I am tossed up between the Ford branded mats for the front and back seats and the weathertech liners. Can anybody offer differences between the two besides the price? (weathertech costs more) I will be purchasing the weathertech liner for the trunk/cargo floor because I've heard good things and Ford doesn't offer a mat through them.

    Thanks!

I have Ford's all-weather mats on my 2008. They seem quite substantial --- good in snow and a dirt driveway. I'm pleased.

  5. What state do you live in? That might explain why you got $1000 and Kontra says $500.

Also did you have to pay an acquisition fee and get 'wear and tear' coverage as part of your lease? In Virginia they add both on to the lease and neither one is cheap.

Michigan. No to the aquisition fee and no to wear and tear coverage.

  6. I heard $500 on the 2008. Hope it's more. I expect to take delivery of my AWD Limited next week.

2008 Edge Limited AWD -- 24 month Red Carpet Lease - Rebate = $1000. Took delivery yesterday.

Lots to learn with talking NAV & SYNC. Using thumb drive filled with MP3s with SYNC. Pretty easy.

    What a great vehicle.

  7. If you wanted the big rebate you should have gone for the 07's. If I was FMC I would hold out on the rebates until all the 07's are gone. I bought a 07 two months ago and got the 2K, we are still very happy. My wife doesn't even want to drive my A4 Convert.

Unless you want the power lift gate, sync, homelink etc. which are only available on the 2008 Edge.

When your sales are down 21%, there are more considerations for just clearing out 07s like reducing defections.

In any case, I'm excited about getting our new 08 Edge. We love our 07 Edge too!

  8. I still don't see that the Ford website has been updated to include the 2008 Edge or it's incentives. The 4th quarter incentives on the 2007 Edge total $2000 for purchase and $1500 for lease. I'd like to see at least $1000 on the 2008 Edge.

I heard $500 on the 2008. Hope it's more. I expect to take delivery of my AWD Limited next week.

  9. I have a 2008 Edge Limited ordered. Was told by a Ford employee that their company supplied 2008 Edge Limited order is on hold until November because of Sync supply issues. That said my dealer tells me my Edge is scheduled to be built the week of Sept 24th and that he has had no advice about Sync being deleted. Generally retail orders have priority over dealer stock and company employee orders.

  10. You are right, mine is the same (painted and protected) but I have been down this road before with Ford and rust. The coverage is perforation by rust only, not surface. The Ford body shop is suggesting a seam sealer and then painting over the sealer. Seems harmless enough but I will investigate it further.

    Thanks

Surface rust is most often a function of exposure to environmental elements and is more commonly known as "industrial fallout". Your present issue is inner door surfaces. Industrial fallout will never be an issue causing "surface" rust on inner door surfaces. Of course, I don't know your history.

The only real possible rust failure you might see is failure of a non-painted surface or the door not properly draining water resulting in corrosion. On mine, I didn't see any non-painted surface or draining problem. If the dealer paints the surface, he will have to prepare it so it adheres..... sanding etc. Down the road this repair could cause problems. Understanding this, if it were mine, I would do nothing but ENJOY THE VEHICLE and keep a copy of the dealer's repair order noting the concern "in file" for future Ford consideration should a failure occur. They do consider documentation like that.

From what we've seen, all other Edge doors show a similar condition so it's how it's built on all vehicles. A replacement door would not improve yours or my situation.

What does the dealer think about the issue? What would they do if they had the issue? If the vehicle were theirs? Ask them! Dealers will do a lot to satisfy you when you believe you have a concern (you are upset) but would not do the same to their own vehicle because in the long term they believe it may not be the best solution.

  11. Yeah...I'm getting tired as well with folks spamming multiple forums with the same questions. PICK A THREAD PEOPLE!

I find it interesting that certain individuals tend to be repeatedly critical of people who have limited understanding of posting protocol -- people like me -- and add absolutely nothing to improve one's understanding of specific vehicle concerns. That's truly the waste!

I myself find this site to be very useful to understanding the Edge. I have a 2005 SEL and ordered a 2008 Edge Limited.

I was concerned about the posted pictures of the door edges until I looked at my own. I certainly understand a purchaser's apprehension!

  12. After washing my Edge a couple of weeks ago I noticed that the seams on the door skins don't match up and the crimps on the corners are crushed instead of a nice overlap. I went to the dealer and asked them about it but they had never seen it before. We looked at an Edge in the show room and it had the same thing. Has anybody else seen this on their Edge. Their body shop is currently trying to figure out what to do about it. My concern is will it start to rust come winter. There are parts where the out skin does not even overlap the inner panel

I looked at my Edge doors and it is similar. That said, all surfaces are smoothed and painted so there is very very limited risk of rust and at least on mine no risk of being cut when hand washing the area. I would not want the body shop to do anything with it. The long term durability should not be affected. Ford does have an excellent corrosion warranty.

  13. Isn't that the strip of molding at the base of the windows stretching from the side view mirrow to the rear quarter window? I can see it's chrome in this photo.

And in this 2007 Edge it's black.

Th chrome accent looks nice. More like the Mazda CX-7 and CX-9 look actually.

if that's what the specs mean, I like it!
