  1. The mobile internet with in-car wi-fi has been a real hit in my household. Although, it seems to only work with our iPhone 4 (via BT) and no other devices that we have tried.

Can you explain exactly your setup, I have an iPhone4. Are you saying you have an USB wi-fi adapter or are you using the iPhone4 as some sort of hot spot via bluetooth, then wi-fi to other devices?

    Thanks,

    Jason

  2. Claying a new vehicle is essential to remove all of the bonded contaminants (ie. rail dust, etc). If you move your hand across your paint surface and feel lots of little bumps, those are bonded contaminants that a regular will not remove. That is where clay bar comes in. It's like an eraser for your paint so to speak. I clay my vehicles at least twice a year, and sometimes more if certain road conditions warrant it.

I'd be more than happy to write a detailed step by step on claying if the members want it. Just give me a few days and I'll post it up. :)

A detailed write up would be awesome, also a question on these Chrome Clad wheels. What would you suggest as the best way to wash/clean then protect for least amount of Break Dust clean-up. I am already seeing some brake dust residue that is really hard to remove, I probably have more miles then most on my Edge at this point, already over 6,200..

    Thanks

  3. I must say that I do like the iPhone much better.

I'm still leaving my option to return this WP7 open.

The working Touch features are neat though.

I'm curious to see if I can get the BT Audio to connect today. It wasn't able to last night

    UPDATE:

No luck in getting Sync to connect to Samsung Focus Windows Phone 7 today.

I pulled the phone battery, pulled fuse 29, deleted device, & re-paired it.

The phone connects but no BT Audio today

    Wilson,

How about calls over Bluetooth, I have heard there are some issues on WP7 phones with Bluetooth calls, I just visited an ATT store and took a demo out the car, and can confirm, the Contact Photos and Texting worked perfectly. I made a call to my work phone and left a message, while it sounded great on the work phone end, it was some what garbled in the car, when hearing my voicemail message and the lady at end of the call that asks if you want to send the message or not.

How much did you have to pay for it, since you have an iPhone4 I would assume you had to pay full price?

  4. No major issues for me as well, yeah it is sort of annoying that with an iPhone it doesn't support all features but that isn't Ford's issue (Apple doesn't support all needed Bluetooth Profiles), I knew this when I test drove it and paired it.

One thing that I think is really slick is that even though I don't have Navigation, you can go to sync my ride and add in Addresses and call them up from SYNC services for directions, you don't have a map on the screen so you have to rely on the fact that it knows where it is going, and I would always at least check a map online to be sure you have a general idea of where to go. Also a really nice feature is if you are in Google Maps on your PC, and the little A that comes up in the Bubble there, you can click on it, and then click More and then Click on Send To - Car. SYNC is there, and you put in your Phone Number, once you jump in the car and connect to Services - it will tell you, it has a saved point for you and ask if you want directions there. And the nice thing is, you could set it up, but not call into Services until you need to use it, and it is there.

Oh yeah and I am getting 24.7 MPG (Calculating after every fill up) so far with 2975 Miles on it. That is great coming from about 18 on my Pathfinder.

  5. Yes. Audible texting and contact photos & addresses

I wonder if the 7 phone would be treated the same way.

Wilson - You can try reaching out to the guy in this thread, he never replied to my question in the thread itself, but I sent him a PM, and he says it is working with him Samsung Focus. However he did say it has issues while connected via USB, I believe he said it charges but SYNC cannot control/index the library. I personally don't care as I have my Music connected via USB Flash Drive, I just want the Photos and Texting with a Slicker Phone Interface then BlackBerry. I may be pulling the trigger on a Samsung Focus shortly, also on a side Note the 4.2 OIS update came out today, I installed over lunch, and it does not send Photos or Text Messages although I think we all knew that, since Apple had said nothing about new Bluetooth Profiles coming with this update. I will have to test out if the popping/skipping issue are still there on my ride home, usually after a skip or so, my system would lock up, and freeze all ports in the media hub until an overnight shutdown or fuse pull.

Duh - forgot to post the url for the thread over at www.fordsyncforum.com

  6. A little over a month ago I upgraded my 2010 Limited to 2011 version. After putting on about 2000 miles on the new one I am averaging about 21 MPG doing a 50/50 driving mix. On my 2010, i was lucky to average 19 MPG. I expected a little better gas mileage, but did not think it would be this significant. Is everyone else having similar results?

So far I have been killing it - 24.5 average for me so far on almost 2700 miles. Here is a link to a site you can use to track, I would like to seem more people doing this. I am by far the best one out there, but I drive like 80% Highway on a 44 Mile Commute to work.

    I am Kona Blue Edge...

  7. Could it be the iOS version?? I'm updating iPhone software Friday. I hope it helps

I wish I had another phone to test with but since the iPhone switched to the smaller sim, I can't swap around.

I'm not ruling out hardware but I think it's a long shot.

I've checked out a few Apple type forums and it was clear that the iPhone/Sync owners were very frustrated with the bugs.

Scott I did see on another forum where ever since they plugged in their iPhone with 4.1 ios it caused skipping when connected via USB. I saw somewhere where some testers of the 4.2 beta version confirm this skipping has stopped. I have had my iPhone twice now while playing music sort of lock up and after that all the media hub ports turn off so to speak, can't use any other USB connected devices for a while. Both times after a restart all was fine.

I am just hoping that 4.2 gives us iPhone users the Bluetooth profiles we want (contact photos, texting over Bluetooth) and perhaps a better version of avrcp which would give us metadata over Bluetooth.

I haven't heard from any beta testers though that any of these are included in the 4.2 update.

  8. The purchase I made from ebay is 100% legitimate. The SD card I purchased is the original card that came with some other guy's Ford Edge. He even sent it with the original packaging. Maybe he made himself a copy, but the only thing I know for sure is that I have the original.

I doubt I will not get this piece to work. The dealer actually told me that I could get the SD on the after market for cheaper than 700$, but to get it to work, I had to get the THX sound system. Why? Not sure... but there seems to be many different versions out there. I will go to the dealer next week to figure this all out and post back with answers.

    Martcouz,

How did it work out, I am interested as well at adding NAV after the fact. Did your dealer get the NAV working for you with the SD card you purchased?

  9. Is it possibly formatted NTFS? Edge can only read FAT32.

I have favorites in my phone, but in my car I want all of my music. I'll be getting my Edge when just as it's time to switch to Christmas music. yahoo.gif

Anyway...I've been assembling a lot of info on what Sync needs to use a storage device as a media player. I bought a USB hard drive to use and had work around Windows limitations when formatting drives. Windows can only format up to 32 GB using FAT32. I had to use a separate program to format my HD.

I've also learned way more than I ever wanted to know about m3u playlists, but I've worked out how to get all of my music and my playlists from iTunes onto my HD and still have the playlists point to the correct location.

Now I'm all set. Just waiting for my Edge. :(

    -Tonya

Tonya - Glad to hear you now have your EDGE and the HD is working well, you mention you loaded up many playlists, I would like to ask if you use the Play Album "Blah Blah" does it play the tracks in correct order? Or perhaps you created a Playlist for each Album, I am thinking of going that route....

    Jason -

  10. Now that I actually have my new Edge, I can report that using the USB Hard Drive is working great. No lags at all. I'm very happy with it.

My last worry will have to wait until the really hot weather returns. High temps over 100 might be the only thing that kills this arrangement.

I also tried a 320GB HD I picked up at Walmart for like 55 bucks and it is working very well, much faster reponse then I thought it would be, other then the Alpha issue where everything plays in Alpha order no matter what. I just found out on this board this morning that there is a new SYNC update out there for us, I know Wilson is going to try and get it installed ASAP, so maybe this will fix the Alpha issue, as well as other general weirdness.

  11. Several Bluetooth standards? If you mean different profiles for different functions or different versions of said profiles then yes, but having multiple standards is an oxymoron.

If a Ford Sync feature requires a specific profile (Phone Book Access Profile e.g.) and Ford implements that profile correctly then it's up to the cell phone mfr/provider to implement that profile or the feature won't work on that phone. They're not coding to a Ford spec - they're coding to a Bluetooth profile spec.

Reading text messages works great on my wife's Motorola Razr. This proves that Ford implemented that feature correctly as did Motorola on the RAZR. If it doesn't work on other phones then it's because the phone mfr didn't implement it at all or didn't implement it correctly. Ford may choose to partner with certain high profile cell phone mfrs like Apple but ultimately it's still up to the cell phone mfr to provide the appropriate Bluetooth features.

Akirby is right on, on this one. The car has the ability to do way more then most phones can, it is not an issue with Ford working with the Apple's and HTC's of the world, it is those companies turning on basic defined Bluetooth profiles, that will allow our phones to interact with SYNC. Like we know how long it took for the iPhone to get Audio Streaming, that is just 1 of about 30 Bluetooth profiles available.

  12. Ok - I finally tried this today ( I have an old ipod I have been using). I didn't have to switch any settings on the phone except what I wanted to play - you just have the select the correct option on the car. I was able to do front, back, start, stop, and volume. I found where it says you can index your bluetooth devise but never could get it to start. discouraging to not even get track name or info displayed, but it works fine. Just kills your battery so I don't see that being something I will do often. I am curious to try Pandora later today. Turns out the app wasn't on my phone.

The MetaData (or track info) can only be sent by phones that support a particular higher version of AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile/Protocol) today the iPhone has version 1.0 I beleive to allow the play, pause, back and forth and so on.. what we really want is version 1.4 of AVRCP to allow even the indexing and browsing, I would be at least happy to see progress to 1.3 of AVRCP which would give us the MetaData info.

I am not sure of the exact Bluetooth profile either that give the contact photos, I think it might be BIP Profile. Here is a great link to wikipedia and bluetooth profiles.

  13. A few weeks ago, SyncMyRide had the software available for me to load it onto a USB drive. I used it twice to "update" my system. They have since taken it down and now they have what they call "status checker". I've installed that once (and uploaded the results). I wonder if the process of installing the software from a USB is in essence rebooting the system. It's sure a bunch easier than pulling the fuse.

Have you looked at you sync install history lately? I wonder if the dealership's update shows up.

Attached is what my history shows. I installed the status checker on 10/19 and the car was built 9/8

Wilson you mention you updated twice, however it doesn't appear in your sync history does it?

Here is mine, I know I tried the Status Checker, it must of been on the 21st, I took delivery on the 16th.

  14. it's 3.5L AWD...

Did you say '08 because I know they have made MPG gains in the new engines this year, and AWD for sure cuts off 2 to 3 MPG I think. So the '08 in AWD could be a good 5 MPG off of a '11 FWD.

  15. Interesting.

Will the USB port be able to power the HD?

I would hope so, most of these smaller USB Hard Drives only need USB for power, my question would be around performance.

My experience is this a small 2GB flash drive filled all the way up, only about 270 songs or so works very well wtih the command "play song one week", it plays pretty quickly 1-3 seconds, where as I have my old iPhone 3G plugged in as well, it only has about 870 songs or so (I know that is all I have today) but when I give it the same command it take a good 5-10 seconds longer to start the track.

I would be interested in getting a bigger Flash Drive / USB Hard Drive, but am concerned about the performance. Is anyone using a large drive and if so, how is the performance?

  16. I have had my 2011 Edge LTD AWD for two weeks and have been getting around 23 on "pure highway" if I reset MPG when I hit the highway and drive 20 mintues to work at about 65 avg.

Seems that on average overall (I do 80% HWY) it drops down to around 20.

I am VERY unhappy with this but hope it gets better, as I do love my Edge. I have been driving it gingerly and using cruise, and expected higher MPG above 25 on the HWY.

I decided this tank to reset the trip and reset the MPG meter...then I will calculate manually the MPG next fill and see how the Miles Driven/ Gallons to refill computes the MPG for the last tank vs. the system calculation.

Hopefully it will improve over time. Part of me wonders if I should have been patient for the EB engine to come out before I jumped...but I do love the V6 (had a 4 cyl. Camry before and though not as punch, hit 28 mpg...I hate having gone backwards on MPG this much).

But I love the Edge. Did I say that?

If 2012 Edge has a hybrid option I shall cry

Hang in there, I have to believe it will get better, I don't know what I am doing, but I am getting much better gas milage then everyone on here. I have a 40 mile commute, almost all higway, only about 4 miles not on the Highway - Cruise set at 70, pretty congested highways in Charlotte, and I am getting above 26 on my current tank and finished my first tank at 24.1. I was trying to get some people to throw their info out on www.fuelly.com it is a good site to track your milage, plus they have added SMS based entry for the US, and we can get some real numbers out there on the Edge.

I am not showing up yet it appears because I only have 2 fill-ups. I am Kona Blue Edge - there is a way to show all and I come up.

  17. My Wife's limited is averaging 15.5 MPG combined. I am less than impressed. I thought it would get at least 19mpg combined. The sticker on the car is just a highly inflated guess of what Ford dreams of having.

Hmmm, I am guessing she drives with a very heavy foot. I got 24.1 on my first tank - that was calculated the old fashion way ( the car was saying 24.4) and I only have about a 1/4 of a tank left on my second tank and the Milage estimate in the car right now is 26.7, I can't wait till it gets broken in.

So far I am very happy with gas milage.

  18. How's come I see 28 Edges, but only 2007, 2008 and 2010 models. Where are you?

edit: Ah... there you are. You have only 2 "fuel-ups". Must have 3 min to show without having to "show all".

I think it also might have to do with the fact that when I added my Edge there was no option for 2011, I had to select other then manually add my year. I went in today and saw that 2011 was there so I updated my info, but I still only show up if I select all. We will see after the 3rd fill-up.

Knock on wood so far I am about 2/3 of a tank in and holding steady at 26.5. I drive almost exclusively on the highway though, 40 mile commute with maybe 4 miles not on the higway. Unless everyone wants me to drive at lunch, so they can ride in my new car. :shift:

  19. I ordered the larger screen after measuring with calipers last week. I will post some pics before and after when it gets here and is installed.

So what was the exact size that you measured, I installed the 104 version and there is only the smallest of gap, I believe someone that started this thread did the 108 version and it went behind the bezel a bit, but that sounds like what most of you might want...

  20. From what I can tell, iPhone iOS 4.1 does AVRCP 1.0

1.0 does not support Track Name etc. Just Play/Pause , Forward/Back

I haven't seen any info on the head unit yet.

Yes I saw for sure that iOS 4.1 added AVRCP 1.0, I am hoping for more in the 4.2 release, but am also curious if any phones out there have this, or all we all in the dark on this technology?

  21. Is anyone able to see track information while using Bluetooth Audio, if so what sort of phone do you have? I believe the phone needs to support AVRCP 1.3 at least for this to work as well as the Sync Head unit would also need the same. Does anyone know a site to show what phones have what version of AVRCP, or do we only have version 1.0 on the Sync Head Unit and it wouldn't matter anyway.

  22. I just completed my first tank. Bought the car w/ 37 miles and ran it up to 402.

24.1 average for me, I am happy if it only gets better.

Also I started using a site called Fuelly that is great for tracking gas milage as well as total spend, very easy to enter from your Phone and I believe it accepts SMS messages for entry as well. It has a big database of cars but currently there are only like 28 Edge's out there, I am the only 2011 one, in fact when you configure your car you have to manually select the 2011 Edge.

  23. Another update in the BT Audio saga...

    <<knock on wood>>

Yesterday I did a master reset to factory settings on the MyTouch, re-Paired my iPhone 4.

So far, the BT Audio has worked perfect.

I start the car and a few seconds later, my iPhone is streaming through the Edge.

What about Bluetooth Audio - Indexing? Does anyone get this to work? If so what type of phone do you have, with my iPhone 4 I can only appear to hit the Sync button and say next or whatever. I had a $55 motorola bluetooth device that I could hit the button and it would basically pull up the iPhone Voice Control then I could place calls or start playlists, artists and so forth.
