  1. well, there's one thing good I can say about my experience since I got my Edge Sport updated to 2.8 a few months back. I no longer need to pull fuse 29. On the other hand, this past week or so the system reboots on its own almost once a day. It typically happens in the middle of the day, not first thing in the morning. It takes a good 10 minutes for MyFordTouch to be usable. Other than that, the system has behaved quite well. Responsive after starting the engine is still sluggish for the first few minutes, but then all is well until that next reboot. It was rebooting every week or so after the upgrade, but it suddenly increased in frequency.

I need to find the time to schedule it for service as I expect that it means a new PIM is needed. This doesn't seem to be just software...

  2. After 1 week, only issues are:

    • Saw 1 reboot ("scheduled maintenance", driving back home from the dealership. The irony is that this reboot seemed to stabilze the system (ex: the startup screen now shows the default "4 corner" display)
    • On every car start, delay of 2-5 minutes before the touch screen becomes responsive. Noticed that finger presses seem to be buffered: when initially touching the screen, no reaction, but when the system is finally ready, I can hear the 2-3 pops in succession corresponding to the previous touches

The delay is annoying, but I could be patient if I knew a fix was coming with 2.10 (?)

So, what's the news about 2.10?

Been away from the forum for a while.

Had my Edge Sport updated to 2.8 back in April.

Your item 2 is my general experience, too.

For the reboot issue, I see this frequently. Sometimes it happens more than once in a day, sometimes I go a week without a reboot.

The most common issue that I see are that the screen remains black with the overlay text for the backup camera for up to a minute after I've gone in reverse. The backup camera comes on immediately now, though, where it was pretty flakey with the older software version. A secondary issue that I see is that the small screen, which I generally leave on the compass, shows "navigation fault - see touch screen" until the navigation system loads fully. This can occasionally take several minutes, though usually less.

On a positive note, I've not had to pull fuse 29 at all since April -- most likely because of the periodic, random system reboots.

  3. Don't discount the v2.8 update just yet. His issues might be APIM related.

That's very true and I've considered it. Since taking delivery of the Edge Sport back at the end of October I was running the original 1.8 and had to pull the fuse almost weekly, sometimes more often. The issues would almost always begin with a misbehaving backup camera. After the 2.8 update/re-flash, I've not had to pull the fuse at all, but the randomness of the reboots seems odd. I've not been able to pin down anything that would explain them. I can go a few days or more between the reboots and once it resets all is well for a while -- after that initial laggy start as things are apparently initializing once again.

  4. Well, mine was updated to v2.8 by the dealer a few weeks back.

The backup camera works great all the time.

Start-up of the system seems about the same with the exception of navigation. It seems to take quite a bit longer to come available. Once up, the system is snappier. That might be 5 minutes after startup, though.

I've had at least 4 reboots at start-up (system maintenance) since the upgrade for no apparent reason and when that happens it can take a few restarts to stabilize. After the reboot, it is a good 5 to 10 minutes before the system responds to touch input.

I had one completely black screen start-up that required me to shut off the car and restart after opening the door and closing it again.

When I start backing up immediately after start up, when the camera goes off, the screen is often black for up to a minute -- sometimes completely black, sometimes with the 4 corner icons visible, but a blank middle area of the screen.

  5. Got my first free oil change.... I will be doing my own from here on out............................ I hate dealers Anyways, the reason I,m updating this thread is, I dis-connected the battery to re boot everything and guess what?? Nav works again! Plan on doing my own updates from now on as well...:happy feet:

Rather than disconnect the battery, you can pull fuse 29 on the 2011 Edge to do the same thing. Although the fuse panel is in a terrible location, it beats pulling the battery cable.

You can't do the major updates yourself as they are only made available through the dealers. Minor updates are made available at the official Sync web site and can be applied with a USB flash drive.

  6. I was THIS CLOSE from crawling on my hands and knees to pull fuse 29 when to my surprise, the system rebooted on it's own.

I do think that ford still needs to work on the memory leaks in Touch. It seems like after a few weeks of use, it still gets Stupid.

I've found that when the system does its own crash/reboot/maint splash screen, plan on pulling the fuse soon.

  7. Hello,

Does anyone know how to make the wall paper images display full screen? I can't seem to get it to work. Do the files have to be in some specific format?

    Thanks,

    From the MyFordTouch Supplement:

Uploading photos for your home screen wallpaper

Your system allows you to upload and view up to 32 photos.

    To access:

    1. Press Menu > Display > Edit Wallpaper.

    2. Follow the system prompts to upload your photographs.

Note: You can NOT load photos directly from your camera. You MUST

access the photos from either your USB mass storage device or from an

    SD card.

    Photo display limitations:

    • Compatible file formats are as follows: .jpg, .gif, .png, .bmp

    • Each file must be 1.5 MB or less.

    • Recommended dimensions: 800 x 378

    • Only the photograph(s) which meet these conditions will be

displayed. Photographs with extremely large dimensions (i.e., 2048

x 1536) may not be compatible and will appear as a blank (black)

    image on the display.

  8. I haven't yet opened the hatch, but I've set off the panic alarm. Just last week, my Edge was out in the driveway and I was in the basement of the house with my coat on, IA key in my coat pocket. I did something that apparently bumped the button just right and I heard the horn going.

  9. Does anyone know if it's possible to tether my phone's 3G connection to the wifi in the Edge? So that passengers could use their laptops to browse the internet, for example.

If your phone shares out the connection, becoming an Access Point (typically using 3rd party software), you would do this without any relationship to the system in the vehicle. The WiFi sharing in the vehicle is limited to certain compatible (no list that I'm aware of) USB cellular modems. It won't share out your phone's connection to the Internet, to the best of my knowledge.

  10. it may well be something we'll see in the future. Or it may be specific to the storage device/music player, but I've never seen that for my Zune before I gave up trying to handle control of the Zune via my Ford Touch and reverted to using the A/V inputs and controlling the Zune from the Zune. I kept encountering the "no playable files" issue and endless indexing when it did decide to recognize the player. Browsing podcasts was impossible, to say the least, so I gave up. ;-)

  11. Sorry to read about your issues. And I trust that the service department will indeed get it resolved for you. The issues that you have encountered since that initial failure of Sync/My Ford Touch, seem to suggest either a hardware failure or that the restart initiated by the fuse pull wasn't successful. I had one time where I pulled the fuse, but after starting it back up, the sytem was still acting odd. I pulled the fuse again, this time leaving it out for 5 minutes before putting it back, then letting the car sit running for a few minutes before touching any of the controls. That resolved the issue at that point. I've pulled the fuse a few times since and had pulled it quite a few times prior to that issue. I've owned the Edge Sport since the 23rd of October and have probably reset the system with the fuse pull close to a dozen times, but only twice since the week before Thanksgiving.

  12. well if you are not going to "sport drive" then it may depend more on he terrain where you drive. I don't sport drive but do drive in the mountains and even areas in Colorado where you are climbing hills. I have the limited, but the select shift is very nice when climbing hills and you don't want the fully auto, upshifting and downshifting all the time depending on the grade.

That makes sense, given the absence of the usual 1 and 2 drive positions on an automatic. I haven't yet found myself doing hilly terrain that would warrant using the manual mode.

  13. Same here. I'm waiting a bit longer. I pulled the fuse again this weekend when the backup camera started misbehaving, usually the first sign of worse behavior to come. I can deal with that for the time being. My sales guy called me yesterday evening to let me know about the update being available as he knew I was having intermittent issues with My Ford Touch/Sync. I told him that I was aware of the update already and that I was waiting based on some of the early horror stories of unsuccessful installations - giving them time to get some experience on other people's cars. :-)

  14. The blank screen for the backup camera, upside picture, rolling picture, or long delay of a black screen before or after the camera activates are all symptoms of the buggy My Ford Touch software that the update is supposed to address.

To resolve it yourself, pull fuse 29 (carefully, the fuse is easy to drop behind the kick panel!) and wait a few minutes (no less than a minute, though) and plug the fuse back in. Start the car and let the Sync system reboot itself. Don't touch any controls for a few minutes until the system is fully started (it will take a few minutes) or you'll see really slow response.

  15. Hi. i did some checking and some people have pulled the fuse for the sync system for 20 to 30 seconds and replaced it and that fixed the usb issue. you have to look in the owners manual to see what fuse is for the sync. it will save you a trip to the dealer. shutting off the car does not kill all the power to sync so you have to do it with the fuse. all sync is is a small computer in your car so just reboot it like you would do at home. you will loose all of your settings and you will have to pair your phone again. let me know how it turned out.

I had this issue with my Zune connected via USB. Pulling the fuse repaired the issue. You don't lose any settings by pulling the fuse, waiting a minute or so and then replacing it. Be careful with the fuse removal, though, as getting to it is a pain. It is really easy to drop the fuse (#29) behind the panel, never to be seen again.

  16. I'm sitting tight too. I need my car during the holidays.

I'm sitting tight until my first scheduled service visit late in January unless the system totally flakes on me. I can pull the fuse again as needed and I've learned some patience - don't touch the controls on the Touch screen for several minutes after startup and even then, one touch, then wait for response before proceeding when it is slow. :-)
