  1. I have had the sync problems and there are still flaws after 2 visits for updates. I also experienced poor service from 2 dealers so far and a dysfunctional AWD tranny that seems to be unfixable. ( it goes into neutral at slow speed when you press the accellerator sharply and makes a loud bang). This is a nice car to drive, but is by far the worst ownership experience I have had with a new car. I would jump at the chance to return it. Ford seems to want to do follow up on satisfaction, which is good, but I am still left holding the bag with a car with serious flaws. This is my first and likely my last Ford unless something is done about that tranny. I would strongly advise potential Edge owners to reconsider

  2. Ours does the same thing! A loud bang with severe hard jerking. Never completely stops. Had it in the shop once and they just said the transmission fluid was low. I was assured it wouldn't happen again. Well, it did it again yesterday. Needless to say, calling the dealer in the morning. Going to have my husband check the fluid. My BIL, who teaches automechanics, said he thinks it's something to do with the transfer box for the AWD. I'll be mentioning that to them when I call. This stinks because I want to love my new car....but I don't!

We have the same problem exactly. Not sure what to do with it. Unless you can reproduce this, the mechanic will just blow you off and say its ok. This is a very random issue but very annoying

  3. I can kind of feel the originator's pain. Its a lot of money to pay for a car with some serious bugs. I have had my 2011 AWD for 5 months now and its a pretty nice car. However, the MFT although better, still has bugs even after the upgrade. I still have to get the tranny fixed as it does have the cluncks and does not shift correctly. Many folks having problems dont log on and share experiences, but judging from those that do, there are some serious flaws. Most new cars should not have this, so i would recommend holding off for another year.

All that said, this is still a very nice car and maybe after all these things are fixed, it will be fine. For the record..no wind noise and the ride is quiet, but the suspension really stiffens up in cold weather.

I can understand why some owners are satisfied. I am just not used to buying a new vehicle that sounds like a transmission is about to explode. So I will have to take it back untill they can fix that, then back again for yet another MFT update at some time. Hope that is all....keeping my fingers crossed

  4. Just thought I'd post an update that I've still not had any major "klunks", yet. My tranny has seem to have settled in and doesn't seem to be quite as smooth as it had been early on, but that may just be me getting used to it. I still find it much more responsive then it was before. Its almost a bit jumpy, it tends to stay in first/second a bit longer then before, especially at low speeds, so if I'm in traffic it keeps the RPMs a little higher and it'll take off like a rocket when I want it too, but its hard to inch up slowly without it powering forward. Its not a jerk, you can just tell it wants to go! It makes for a slightly rougher, yet more sporty ride. Hey I got the sport, so its what I signed up for.

Sorry the service details didn't help you out Wilsons :censored:

I had my sync update. Since that time it shifts differently. Seems to lose power wehen shifing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Also I was trying to manual shift and I got the dreaded clunck. very scary, that cant be good. This is really annoying, even my wife is complaining. We drive very cautiously, but this is not fun.

The only real improvement is that it seems to downshift more aggressively, but overall this is a major problem. Not sure what to do and if the dealer will know how to fix it.

  5. Just had the sync upgrade yesterday. At least some of the sync problems seem to be fixed. I did notice that the vehicle seemed more sluggish when driving. It was almost like it's upshifting sooner. Has this anything to do with the sync recall? I also had the electrical fire recall done. Could that be the issue? Any help appreciated

  6. I have mine since last November. ( SEL AWD Edge) Here is my impression. To note I live in an area with cold winters.:

Good: overall comfort seating, interior and ride. This is a nice car to drive and runs smoothly. Good acceleration. Quiet. You will enjoy driving the vehicle.

Bad: sync and nav system. This is a far inferior nav system to even a cheap GPS. Very disappointing. Sync only partly works, there are many flaws. Gas milage in cold weather is poor. I used to get better milage with my turbo deisel 2500 truck!. Ride is also very stiff in cold weather. Transmission downshift is eratic and seems to go briefly into neutral off the line, so you need to accelerate with caution from a stop. I will have to get this fixed.

Overall: i would wait till next year. there will be a new engine and maybe the electronics will be fixed. If you need to buy now, I hate to say it, but I would pass for something else. Ford just callled me to say that there is still problems with the sofware fix for the Sync which is really hard to believe. Also, I have also had several serious and minor service issues on this purchase, maybe the local dealer is the problem, but maybe something to do with the dealer network. I have bought a number of new vehicles over the last 10 years and this is the worst experience so far and not getting any better. My hope is that the sync issues will eventually be fixed. Should not be rocket science, but seems beyond the capability of Ford for the moment.
