  1. I have to say I am very dissatisfied with my 2011 Edge LTD. It's been back to the dealership 6 times for issues with Sync and MFT. They replaced the Sync module on the second visit and I had to go back four more times to get system updates. What really bugs me is that the main focus of the Edge advertising is MFT. That system is flawed and Ford has known about the problems since at least last July. Why can't a company as big as Ford get this right? Every time I have to go back to the dealership, I get comments about 'too many electronics' nowadays. My dealership doesn't even have inhouse techs that can work on MFT. The outside service group doesn't even start working on MFT until 12:30 each day.

I've also had issues with a rattling/fluttering noise near the driver side mirror. The dealership will have had my Edge for a week before I get it back Tuesday (hopefully FIXED). As of Friday, they still hadn't isolated and fixed the noise.

Oh - did I mention that a week and a half ago the transmission did a 'hard shift' and I thought the whole transmission had fallen out of the car - the car shook and it sounded like a bomb went off underneath. There was a TSB and they had to replace a plate in the transmission - it only has 5K miles on it!

Overall, this vehicle is a piece of crap and I WILL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN. I took a leap of faith, after having driven imports for years, because of good press on the quality gains Ford has made. What a huge mistake!

My company buys a lot of Fords for company cars and I'm going to see what I can do to change that. BUYING THIS FORD HAS BEEN THE WORST AUTOMOBILE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AND I'VE OWNED OVER 20 CARS.

This is a very poor vehicle in my view, just way too many deficiencies

I've always purchased domestic including a lot of Fords over the years and can't recall anytime being so disappointed

    After 12 months ownership of a loaded Edge Limited my list includes;

Transmission thump (was fixed after 2 months but has now returned)

The whole MFT system has been just one huge headache, almost daily

    Whistling noise from heating system

    Vista roof jamming

    Misaligned driver door

Rust spots are now beginning to appear in areas and I'm positive these aren't rock chips

This could have been a very good product, it certainly has the looks but looking forward to the day this POS is off my driveway

  2. Mine is a 2011 Edge Limited AWD, 25,000 kms

I've found that if you turn the fan on full and gently tap either the drivers or passenger windows to open very slightly the noise will become evident

You don't have to have the car in motion so leave the vehicle and the noise seems to be worse on the outside. Press on the window from the outside and the noise will stop...!!!

Not sure what the fix will be but obviously its a window seal issue

  3. I had one replaced...issues returned the next day.

    Yep, me too.

After they installed mine I had possibly a week of zero trouble

I've given up on this POS to be honest and close to realizing that within a month (after we receive the new update) that we've all been taken for a huge ride by Ford

  4. If that is true then this would be a monumental failure given the amount of time they've had to do the rewrite. It would also affect the 2013 vehicles moving to MFT and MLT.

I'm still wondering if there isn't some hardware issue at work here because I've also heard reports from beta testers saying it was great.

    Below is the comments I had from Ford on Sunday;

I think we've all suffered enough, don't you?

We're currently working on an upgrade for the MyFord Touch system. This will be mailed to you this spring. It will come on a preloaded USB thumb drive. For more information, check out:

  5. Yep. Disappointing indeed. My dealer told me to just bring it in again to reset everything, but say I have to wait til end of March before I can enjoy my new ford edge with working correctly MFT ?? Crazy Ford is getting away with this

Ford has assured me I'll be getting the MFT update which is supposed to end all my issues on my 2011 Limited.

That being the worst I should also mention transmission bump, closing sunroof, whistling noises, misaligned drivers door, etc, I really don't have the time to be Fords tester.

Too bad as this vehicle had a lot going for it with design looks, size and performance. Ford built this in North America with cheap offshore suppliers is my bet.

    Very dissipointed...!!!

  6. This is insane!! Why should anyone have to be screwing with MFT and thumb drives!! These are expensive cars that should not need serious baby sitting by an IT department!! C'mon ford!! I bought this car with much higher expectations and looked away from the imports to help support the good ol USA. Geeze

I believe your supporting cheap Chineese parts there Superdave...!!!

  7. Really there is no difference. Wether you have problems 5% of the time or 80% of the time. Anything over 0% is unacceptable.

I think Ford's CEO Alan Mulally would understand this. Hell, he designed the 777 cockpit. Do you think he would have accepted 2 lockups in 2 months in his aircraft?

This malfunctioning MFT should not be taken lightly. Aircraft or autos...people's lives are at stake here.

I hope to hell that I don't kill someone because I'm preoccupied with my F'd up MFT.

The tag line for Ford Sync is Hands on the wheel and Eyes on the road

With MFT, my hands are off the wheel & my eyes are off the road.

This is a major FORD FAIL and I don't understand why some people still try to sweep it under the carpet.

    Good point

I've often thought after reading some of the comments on here that Akirby and some others on these boards aren't real people, just Ford PR voices covering up all this mess.

  8. My 2011 Edge has a high pitch whistle emanating from near the rear passenger’s door lock stalk. The pitch of the whistle changes with the climate control’s blower speed setting. If I open the door – no whistle, crack the window – no whistle, set climate control to recirculate air – no whistle. It’ll do this whether the car is moving or parked. So I think air is either being sucked-in or forced out through the exterior door handle opening. I’ll have it looked at during the first dealer service, but has anyone heard of this problem?

Hi Weezer, did you get this resolved?

Something similar is happening with my vehicle this morning. You mentioned the rear door but I'm not sure exactly where the noise is coming from, thought it was more from the dashboard area and seems to get louder the faster you go.

Looks like another visit to the dealer

    Thanks

  9. Well after three visits (and fixes) to my dealer they finally replaced the APIM

The screen is definitely more responsive to touch but the troubles with delay and freezing are still there. The navigation has stopped and read "fault" at least 3 times this week and can only be reset with restarting the vehicle...!!!

To be honest, all I want is this 50K POS out of my driveway, I've had enough and really can't afford wasting my time going back and fore the dealer.

Ford did a terrible job on this system and deserves all the criticism it’s getting

Lease end can't come soon enough fo me

  10. I would be interested to know does ....ANYONE... have a perfect system or is this is what to expect with MFT..??

Since I've had my 2011 Edge Limited AWD, the screen is slow, goes blank often, navagation freezes at least once a week with the only way to correct is shut the vehicle down for a hour.

I have the "latest and greatest" updated to 2.11 a couple of weeks ago.

    Really, I'm not impressed

  11. Sometimes I get blank screens and sections. Using the voice control to activate that particular "module" seems to kickstart it somehow and it starts working again.

Thanks I'll have to try that.

I'm still getting black outs after the 2:11 update but just haven't had time to get it back to the dealer

Its the Navigation that stops working but after the vehicle sits for an hour it corrects itself..........weird stuff this MFT

    :banghead:

  12. Nothing more than an ambulance chaser trying to drum up business.

Reports of failures on new vehicles the last 2 years have been few and far between. And most repaired vehicles seem to be fine once they are repaired with the latest kit. It would not stop me from buying one if I needed AWD.

Mine is in the shop today having repairs done to the "banging" issue with the AWD.

In fairness to the Ford dealer they were very helpful, obviously wishing to correct any problems.

They're slowly getting to all my complaints and I'm slowly getting a little less irritated with my vehicle

    :happy feet:

  13. Like many others on this forum I loved this vehicle for the first 1000 K, then the Sync issues began and have turned into something new every other day.

The navigation is useless, the lag at start up is frustrating (sometimes never does boot-up, until I pull over and start again)

Such a shame really as it handles well, great looking and a comfortable vehicle

Would I still dump it? Yes, without giving a second thought

  14. I've just about had it with this vehicle, every day seems to be a new adventure

Moon roof struggling to close one day, rear end thumping away the next. Todays problem is the dreaded blank navigation screen with message saying "theres a fault"

FAULT...??? this whole vehicle is one big fault

Ford putting this out on the market when its obvious there are so many deficiencies is almost criminal. They really to to step up and fix this mess

Sadly I can't see any help from Ford, numerous problems were mentioned on this forum from 2009's and 2010's. They still are cropping up with 2011's, what does that tell you?

Least of my problems is the annoying mis-aligned drivers door, give me a break, this is QA at its worst for how many years..???

    End of rant

  15. Interesting about bSquare, didn't know that.

"...They deserve the blame for allowing the problems in the first place...". I could accept a starter company getting a blow-away demo from bSquare and being blind sighted. I fail to see how a veteran company like Ford failed to tell bSquare "let me play with this and see how it behaves under stress". Product may be about functionality first, but quality programming is about handling exceptions, not the mainnsteam normal behavior. For those of us who have done some serious programming, it's easy to write the main logic; the pain is handling all the exceptions.

I agree it's a bummer for Ford. BUT. There's no excuse. In a $50k vehicule, I expect quality somewhere among all those dollars. I have two thougts:

    • MFT or equivalent will be standard in all vehicules 5 years from now. So we're living the future now. That's the good part.
    • Ford is as bad as Toyota in not acknowledging a major defect: I may be wrong on this one, so please correct me. Ford keeps marketing this thing as the 7th wonder.

If I read a public statement identifying a problem and saw an engagement to resolve it within a clearly defined timeline, my tolerance would stretch. Show me the light !! I'm sorry, denial is not a good strategy

Agreeded CV27, however 7th wonder it is not, 7th BLUNDER... maybe?

  16. Sir - I applaud you on continuing to fight until you achieved your objective. Unfortunately, I feel I've started down the same road as you did even though I haven't had as many problems as you had. Ford has known since at least last July that there were significant problems with their Sync/MFT system and it still doesn't work properly for many folks, me being one. I've had to take the 2011 Edge back for work on the MFT 6 times. I had a 'hard shift' practically give me a heart attack when it happened and supposedly that will be fixed when I pick up the car from the dealership next week sometime. There is a persistant fluttering noise from near the driver's rear view mirror that they are still trying to fix.

In all fairness, I've been given a rental car that Ford paid for each time I've had to leave the car there (this time I will have had it for 6 days). Still - I will never buy a Ford again - I've learned my lesson. Imports only from now on.

I'm experinening many issues that you speak about and have decided after this lease runs out I'll not make the same mistake again.

What infuriates me is Ford is just not listening or taking notice of the repairs coming from their dealers. Some of these issues are from 2009 or 2010 model years...!!!

You'll find buying an "import" doesn't really solve anything either, Toyota, Audi, Nissan among others that have quality problems on their hands. It's the correcting of these problems I would like to see.

I understand offshore sourcing by Mercedes, BMW and more recently Toyota (very red faced and serious about getting back to where they were) is now being considered. "Profits over quality" is about to change throughout the industry maybe...just maybe????
