  1. well all said i have had multiple seals, a new PTO and a new passenger side axle. as of now the leak has returned since they replaced the axle. I am still not ready to take it on once the warranty ends so as we speak i am in the process of getting it sold so i don't have to deal with it anymore...good luck with whatever way you choose!

  2. So...After all these visits to the Ford dealership here in Germany they have had it for the past week trying to fix it. This time they had a guy from the ford factory come and look at it after the work was completed, and what do you know....it was already leaking again!!! so now finally Ford is paying for a rental car and ordering more parts....so ready to get rid of this thing!!!

By the way...they are replacing the seal and the passenger side axle this time....

  3. well they only took two weeks to look at diagnose, call in a special mechanic from 4 hours away(I am in Germany with a US Spec car), and replace a seal. I believe it was the newer seal that you guys have mentioned but am not positive as they have different part numbers on their work orders. Mine shows "10727549" as the seal's part number. as for it taking 2 weeks i must say that i had no appt when it went in but the garage was very accommodating seeing as though the car did fill with smoke that morning due to the leak being that bad. hopefully it will hold till this time next year as I will then be back in the states and have it payed down enough i will be able to trade it in on something more reliable(Maybe another BMW like my new 328i i just got a month ago!!!

  4. Hah - going in for #10 today. This is starting to be a game. I should start taking bets on how long this one will last.

Just dropped mine off this morning at the dealership here in germany after the car filled with smoke...they are bringing a special technician from 4 hours away to look at it...

  5. Primetime,

Have you been using the same dealership for all the repair attempts? If so, please tell me that you are at least using a different dealership for attempt 7.

I don't know about him but I am unfortunately stuck with 2 ford dealerships in germany that know little about our american cars. and one of them told me nothing was wrong......and now i am going back for the 5th time in 2 and a half years....

  6. Well just like many of you I have a 2007 Ford Edge SEL AWD. Great car other than this problem. It started in Sept of 2009 but no smell only a leak. Now for me it is a little more complex as I am in the US Air Force and I am based in Germany. The warranty is covered here at the local European Ford Garage, but it takes longer to get parts. So after about 30 days, $500 worth of rentals, and 4 visits to 2 different garages...The first garage said nothing was wrong. The second garage said there was a problem and replaced the seal kit twice then replace the entire PTU. Now a year later and I have both the odor and the leak(noticed it on the snow today). so now i must take it in to the German Ford Garage and hassle through the language barrier again to try and get my car fixed. it now has just under 40,000 miles and is just over 3 years old. thankfully it is still under the power train warranty!
