  1. Picking up my new Edge SEL on Monday. When I called to add the vehicle to my insurance they asked if the car had an alarm system. Apparenlty I get a discount if the car has an alarm system but I wasn't really sure. They followed up and asked if it makes a sound when I locked the door. Again not sure since I don't have the car. So does anyone know if the Edge SEL comes standard with an alarm that would qualify for a yes to that insurance question? Thx

  2. Mine was ordered 12/30/10. Accepted by the factory 1/17/11, build about 1/24/11. Arrived here in Ohio 2/2/11. Dealer told me he had allottment when I ordered.

Sometimes the system doesn't even always make sense. I ordered mine on Dec 21. Accepted by the factory the same day as yours and build the same day as yours. Mine has not yet arrived and I live in New York only about a 5 hour drive from the Canadian plant. Anyway, point is that it's not really an exact science. Hoping the other forum can give me a ETA tomorrow as it is strange. Enjoy the vehicle. Can't wait to get mine.

  3. Couple items:

The radio issues are primarily fixed with a software update now (minus the USB music, ours still skips at the moment) This would resolve items 1 and 3.

I agree on the emergency flashers but you get used to it honestly and isn't a reason not to purchase.

The headrests take a bit of getting used to, I give you that one, but again, not enough where I don't feel comfortable driving now.

As for the warranty, 2 things to note: With electronics you'll typically see issues off the bat or really not at all, and highly unlikely after 3 years if they hadn't shown up prior. If it is still a concern, Ford PremiumCare extended warranties are relatively inexpensive for these vehicles and cover most everything but wear/tear items if that helps put your mind at ease.

Is it perfect? No. Would we buy again? Absolutely in a heartbeat. It's really a great, solid vehicle.

Thanks for the peptalk. I needed it between the Consumer Report review and my rental experience. I may completely regret it but I'm still going through with it because it has so many unique features and minus all of the features it's just a great car to drive. This was a brand new rental. I pulled the window sticket and it was produced in December so I have to imagine it had the most up to date software upgrades. I guess the warranty should cover most things as long as it does not become inconvenient with lots of trips to the dealer. Does anyone know how to fix my issue with having the phone call random people? Can you change a setting to ask the car to confirm the person before making the call? Some of my issues may just be getting comfortable with the technology.

  4. I have a Ford Edge on order so I jumped at the opportunity to pick one up as my recent rental car and give it a good drive rather than the limited dealer test drive. It was a Limited with the Ford touch system so pretty well has everything that mine will have. The car only had 400 milesl when I picked it up and I put another 500 on it. The car was produced in December so I assume it had the most up to date My Ford Touch system available.

    The Good:

Great engine. Plenty of power. Runs smooth.

Very quiet interior. Little road noise.

Roomy interior in both front and back. Great cargo space.

Ford Touch was pretty intuitive to pick up and use.

Ford Touch was pretty responsive. Did not notice lags that I had read about. New version must have corrected that problem pretty well.

Iphone pairing was quick and easy for phone use.

Iphone indexing was fairly quick for music use.

When it works right - voice command was pretty cool and beyond anything else out there. Immediate calls. Immediate track or artist. Very cool.

    The Bad:

On the way home from airport Ford Touch goes blank . It reboots itself and seems to run normal.

Music streaming did not always operate properly even using USB. Sound would stop but systems still continues. Had to unplug and replug to fix.

Experienced the common Bluetooth streaming issues with iphone.

Seats were comfortable but the position of the headrest and the inability to adjust it left me sore the next day after driving 500. Maybe just a new seat. Maybe more than that.

As mentioned the emergency flasher placement is terrible. I must have turned that thing on by accident 10 times.

I had an external GPS on the dash. With everything else in this car another item was definitely a distraction. I completely regret not ordering the navigation.

Phone misdialed several times using voice command. Very embarassing to call random people in my phone directory. Sometimes it was not even close to right.

    Verdict:

After the experience of a brand new car with only 500 miles I have to say that I have some serious concerns about going through with the purchase. So many things to like about this car but should anyone really buy a $35k+ car that experiences so many issues? I want a brand new car to work and after the fun of the new gadgets wears off I think I might be simply left frustrated and out of patience that things just don't work. What will these issues do to resale of this car? What on earth will happen after the warranty period runs out.? We will be clamoring to dump these cars because we simply can't afford the repairs. Doing some serious reconsideration and very glad I took the opportunity for this extended drive.

  5. On my window sticker the date at the bottom, is the current date whenever i view the sticker (it changes) On the good news front, this morning I see that Sync was loaded to the vehicle today, so does that suggest that it is nearing the end of being built and getting ready to ship?

    thanks!

The date at the very bottom of the window sticker is the current date however if you look at the box right above that you will see a long stream of numbers and letters. At the very end of that stream you should see something like 01 17 11. That is the date the factory accepted your order and scheduled a production date. The only way to get the actual production date is to have your dealer track it for you or to have an employee track it for you on the blueovalforum. There is a specific forum where someone helps people track vehicles if you know the VIN number. Seeing SYNC installed is a good sign but simply means it has been installed and does not mean production is complete. But it should certaintly ship out by the end of the week once all quality control and checks have been completed. That's all information I have gathered from my readings here and elsewhere. Not expert knowledge by any means.

  6. I too just got my VIN and window sticker today - there is a date on the bottom (below the bar code) shows 1-17-2011. I also went onto the syncmyride site and got the "error" message which I take means the sync has not been downloaded to that VIN number yet.

Is there any way to tell when it goes onto the assembly line and how long it takes to assemble before it is shipped? Of course shipping time and dealer prep time would be great too but there is a lot of variables involved there.

The reason I ask is because I want all the financing to be done and ready to go when it arrives. Financing is good for 30 days before the preapproval expires so do it too soon and I'll have to repeat the process,

We are getting the Bourdou (sp?) red 2011 Edge Limited FWD with the 302a package, tow kit and cargo package and are anxiously awaiting its' arrival. Already sold the car it is repacing (maybe a little too soon) so can use it now.

I just got mine and I have the same date of 01 17 11 on my window sticker. I put my VIN on the other forum and was told it was scheduled to start production on January 24. So I'm guesssing you will be in the same production run. Should show up on syncmyride late next week once they get to that phase. Dealer says they expect arrival mid to late February so not real helpful. I like you want to get my best financing in place before I go get the vehicle. If Ford wants my business I'm happy to give them one shot to give me their absolute best offer making it clear that I already have financing that I'm happy with and they need to give me their very best offer and I will only give them once shot.
