  1. My experience has been that 2.11 has been much more stable than 2.8 was, but neither has been great by any stretch of the imagination. I see my system spontaneously reboot about once a month or so, but it usually recovers OK after that. I have also noticed that if I am using the navigation and I arrive at my destination, if I leave that little pop-up window on the system (the one that tells you have arrived and what your travel time was), and then I shut the car off without pressing "OK" on that window that the system will not seemingly shutdown like it is supposed to. I don't know if the screen is staying on all night, but when I start the car up the next morning instead of getting the Ford splash screen and the normal boot-up it will instantly come back on with the previously described screen from the day before.

I have also noticed that the more I push the system the more I can get it to crash and burn. Which means unfortunately the times that it fails are the times that you are depending on it the most. The only time I've had a completely black screen that required the fuse pull was in the middle of our family vacation while stopped at a New York rest area. Luckily I knew the fuse trick or we would have been a little screwed as we were depending on the navigation at that point.

I received a phone call from Ford the other day but I missed the lady both times she called me. I called her back but never got a return call. I wonder if that was my opportunity to be offered a comp and I missed out?

In any event I am content at this point to wait a couple of more months and see what the update looks like. To have taken this much time to get it to us would imply that it would be thoroughly tested, but I guess we will have to see that for ourselves.

  2. How can a satellite know which time zone you're in? The satellite time is just GMT time, it's up to the GPS unit itself to adjust the time based on where you are. But how can it know what the correct time is if there could be two different times at the same location, depending on the date? So the system has to double-cross reference, take the standard time signal, check that against the location then check that against a database of DST time offsets by location. I don't believe that last database exists in the system, thus the DST function is just a manual on/off button that you have to push twice a year.

All I know is before I went to 2.11 mine would automatically adjust the clock for DST changes. Plus, if it can't do that how would "Auto Time Zone Change" ever work?

  3. Mine changed automatically. But I am still on 1.8 so who knows. I am now fairly confident that I will wait for the major rewrite before doing any changes to the system.

I'm on 2.11 and mine also did not change automatically. Can I ask what your time setting are, maybe we all have it programmed wrong? Right now I have GPS time sync set to on, DST set to on, and Auto Time Zone set to on. it doesn't make sense, with GPS sync turned on the DST one technically shouldn't matter, it should just download the correct time from the sats, right?

  4. It's not supposed to go over 10K according to the manual. Perhaps someone reset your counter.

I just hit 11k and I still have life left on the oil according to the computer. And I know it hasn't been reset as I check it periodically and it moves down really slowly. Where does it say you shouldn't go over 10k, and if that is the case why wouldn't the computer recommend a change accordingly?

All my previous vehicles I have changed at least every 5k but I thought for once I would give this monitoring thing a try, now I'm wondering if I have messed up by running it too long...

Ok, it just occured to me I could look this up myself. Here is what the owner's manual says about the oil change interval:

    NORMAL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND LOG

For your convenience, your vehicle is equipped with a message center

which determines the proper oil change service interval. You should

perform the engine oil change as indicated by the message center. The

message center will display ENGINE OIL CHANGE SOON or OIL

CHANGE REQUIRED to indicate when an oil change is needed. The

engine oil change service needs to be completed within two weeks or

500 miles (800 km) after the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED message is

displayed. Your oil change service interval can be up to one year or

10,000 miles (16,000 km). Reset your Intelligent Oil Life Monitor™ after

each engine oil and filter change; refer to the Instrument Cluster

    chapter.

If your message center is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative, you

should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5,000 miles

(8,000 km) from your last oil change.

So from that I am reading that as long as you don't go over a year, you could potentially exceed 10k miles before an oil change. Or am I reading it wrong?

  5. I'm just curious, I know it has already been discussed that there are currently no updates for the SD-based navigation data that came with my Touch based navigation system. But, has Ford ever offered updated map and POI data for any of their built in navigation systems? I am assuming that 2011 when I bought my car was not the first time Ford has offered such a system, but in all the forums and threads I've seen I have never actually heard of anyone saying they had received (or bought) such a thing, even on an earlier model vehicle.

My other vehicle is a Honda minivan, there tends to be crapping and complaining over there due to the high costs of the updated DVD disks, but Honda is pretty good about at least offering updates once a year.

  6. Mine was all ready to go when I picked my Edge up. The initial subscription is for 6 months.

Funny, SIRIUS browse feature locked mine up too! Had to shut car off and cause system restart. I only tried the browse the one time.

Browse also locks up my system as well, and I'm running 2.11. Since I have dropped the Sirius audio portion on my account it is no longer and issue though.

  7. Just had them re-activate Sirius on my Edge and wife's Fusion. They gave me 5 months for $20 on each vehicle. Total price was just over $26.00 for each vehicle. They even discounted the $15 reactivation fee for each vehicle to zero. I can live with the compression for that price. They will charge my credit card the regular price at the end of the 5 months, but I will call them before then to get a better price or I will have them turn it off again.

When I called them I just kept asking them to give me their best plan and that is what they offered me.

What did they reactivate for that price? I just got the traffic and Travellink stuff turned back on for $20 for 5 months (no audio) and I thought I was doing pretty well. If you got everything turned on in two vehicles for the same I will have to negotiate a little bit harder next time. :-)

  8. I'm the one that got the $24 deal. To get the deal that I got, I had to go through 4 or 5 people.

I later found out when I looked at the Travel Link subscription page, that Traffic is not included. Damn!

The weather app works once in a while but I can't trust it.

Gas prices seem to work but I don't use them.

I don't see a need for it until they fix this POS called Touch

Glad you mentioned that the $24 didn't include the traffic as I would like to have both the traffic and the travelink if they will do it cheaply enough. So far they have quoted me $69 for a year of just those two things which I turned down. My next step is to see if they will still do the $77 deal for everything, if not I will hammer on them for a better price for everything but the audio portion.

  9. So my free trial expired and they turned me off, pretty much exactly on the minute that they could. I have already called them once in the car to get their initial offer, they started off at +$300 for everything for a year, then they came down to $250 for everything for a year, and then they offered me $69 a year for just the Traffic and Travelink stuff. I am leaning toward not going with the audio since I honestly only use that on trips, and I don't really take enough trip to justify the expense.

So what is the best price anyone has gotten on everything for a year, and what is the best price for just the Traffic/Travelink portion? I saw someone posted they got the latter for $24 which I would do, just wondering what is the best on the whole bundle.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. I just finished a post where I raved about the climate in Edge. The only downfall was the MFT interface.

Do you have MyTemp set? Is it defaulting to that setting?

While I never noticed the set temp changing, there have been a few times where I felt the HVAC needed a 5hr energy drink. After increasing fan speed then setting back to auto, it woke up and blew cold.

Ok, I'm glad someone else has noticed this as well. Most times I get in my car the A/C kicks on and blows like crazy (temps here have been in the 90's for much of the summer and I leave my car closed up so it's really hot). But occasionally I will get it and it is barely blowing even though the cabin is probably +100 degrees. I also have to fiddle with increasing the fan and then it seems better. I have noticed that for whatever reason it seems to happen more often when I have a car full of people getting in but I have no idea what that would have to do with anything. It's probably coincidental...

  11. When I took delivery of my 2011 Edge that rear seat would not latch at all in the upright position. They discovered the problem while they were prepping my car for delivery. They engaged a Ford engineer and eventually decided the entire bottom part of the seat needed to be replaced. It was pretty pricy, but obviously covered under warranty for me. Good luck.

For the record the seatbelt latch in that position on my car would not engage. I am guessing the guy doing assembly that day must have been having a bad day or something to not notice either thing. :-(

  12. So yesterday on one of my trips my phone would not connect to SYNC at all. When I tried to force SYNC to connect it popped up and told me "Bluetooth is not turned on, would I like to turn it on?" to which I said Yes. Still would not connect. When I got to my destination and restarted the car I had a black screen momentarily, and then I got the infamous "Performing scheduled maintenance" reboot screen. When that finished my phone was connected and I had no further problems.

For the record my phone is a crappy Nokia flip that is a couple of years old, nothing fancy. Overall I haven't had much problems with getting it to pair with SYNC.

  13. Also, why are three different dealers quoting me 3-5 hours to do the update?

That sounds about right. You have to figure time on either end of the update for setup and such, plus sometimes it has to be done a couple of times before it takes (or so we have been told). On this update they shared with the wife that they had to "wipe the entire system" and then perform the update to get it to take. Unless you have a good book to read it is probably a drop it off and come back kind of a procedure versus a waiting room deal.

  14. So I've had 2.11 on my 2011 Edge Limted for a couple of days so I figured I would strart a thread so that we can compare notes.

    Fixes I've noticed:

Sirius channel callout by name since reorg problem - Fixed (you can also fix this on the lower releases of software with a patch that is posted on the syncmyride website.

    Things for sure not fixed:

USB device set to Autoplay will still switch over and become active after car power cycles. Workaround is just to turn Autoplay off.

Problems I have had in the past which I haven't seen under 2.11, but in fairness I probably haven't really been running long enough to have encountered yet if they aren't fixed:

    Random system reboot.

Lockup of navigation system on a long trip or after heavy use.

System lockup requiring a fuse pull.

Audio system non-responsivness require source switching trick to get it running again.

    Phone pairing disconnections.

That is all I can think of right now. Overall the system seems more responsive, but probably not more than 2.8 did when I first had that installed.

  15. Hi, the dealer replaced the APIM and V2.11 but they cannot get the NAV working, what kinds of info show on the wed site for your car ? mine just said Gen2-V2.11 BT4T-14D544-BM. I wonder did they forget to install some apps ?

Here is what mine says. My nav and backup camera are all working, I always make sure the wife checks those things before she leaves the dealership, although they have never disappeared after an update on my vehicle.

  16. Well, I just completed the second of two major road trips in my 2011 Edge, as well as rolling over past 10k miles on the odometer so i thought I would give an update on the problems I have seen. My car is running 2.8 version of code which I believe to be the latest/greatest.

On the first road trip 3 months ago my navigation locked up after about 5 hours of driving. Would not move, would not respond to input. Luckily we were close enough to home we could find our way that time. After being locked up for about 90 minutes it rebooted itself and was fine after that.

On this bigger trip we came out after stopping for lunch to find the center 8" screen blank and non-responsive after starting the car. Both of the smaller screens were running though. No radio, nav, voice recognition, etc, but at least the climate system was still working. Pulled fuse 29 for the first time which got it going. Too bad that fusebox isn't a little easier to get to, and being behind 2 separate doors is a nice touch. :-)

I have also noted other problems such as a non-responsive audio system pretty regularly now. I found a workaround for that is to switch between Sirius and AM/FM and back and it seems to clear it up.

I still have the problem at least weekly where the voice will come on and say "call ended" when I wasn't on a call to begin with. Sometimes this will only happen once, sometimes it will continue for several minutes.

My Sirius channel presets seem to come at go at will. I thought it was related to the channel changes but I applied the fix for that, and when they decide to come back they are all correct so not sure what is up there.

Given that I am a good way through my 36,000 mile BTB warranty I have decided I need to start creating a better paper trail of problems so I have scheduled a service appointment for later this week to address the latest fuse pulling incident. I know until later software is available the dealer probably can't really do anything but I figured, again, I need to start creating a record of these problems. I will say, when i called my dealer to make the appointment he asked me a series of questions over the phone which clearly demonstrated they have a much better understanding of what is going on with the Touch system over when I bought my car 7 months ago and they didn't even seem to know they sold something called the Touch system. That said, my dealer has always been fabulous and I would recommend them to anyone, I don't blame my problems on anyone locally.

Does anyone know if there are any plans for Ford to offer an extended warranty on this Touch system? I have a pretty high level of fear for the time when I hit 36k and I'm literally on my own dollar for keeping this thing running.

All this whining aside, I still like the system, and am still impressed by it's capabilities when it's working well. But if all of us are going to basically beta test this new software for Ford I think we deserve more for our problems than a warranty that expires right about the time they get the bugs ironed out of it...

  17. OK, here is a new one that happened to me this morning. I don't think I have seen anyone else report this one so I may be charting new territory for bugs with this one. When I started up my car this morning there was no radio playing at all, and then I heard "Call ended". Then I heard it again. This kept on going for about 5 minutes until I went in and manually disconnected my phone from the system. Still had to fidget a bit to get the radio to play, eventually when I switched it over to Sirius and back that seemed to get it unstuck. When I arrived at work I re-connected my phone and it still seemed to be stuck in this "Call ended" loop. I am running 2.8 and have been for a while now. The only changes to my system is I did install that Sirius channel patch 2 days ago which worked and did solve that problem. I guess if it's still doing it tonight I will call my dealer. :-(

  18. Try the Volume button......

    (while the voice is speaking)

    He speaks the truth.

There are 4 separate volume settings on your system since you have navigation. Whenever one of them has control of the output you should adjust the volume right at that moment. For me, my navigation was initially way too loud, and my phone calls were way too quiet. Just gotta be quick to adjust as the navigation voice usually doesn't have really lengthy things to say.. :-)

  19. V 2.8 is working fine so I am not going to mess with anything.

Are you using Sirius audio? Because my channel lineups via voice commands are all screwed up, and I'm also on 2.8.

But then the question is, does 2.10 resolve the Sirius issues related to the channel lineup change? Does anyone know?

  20. I just don't want to have to pay for a free update at the dealer

I've had 2 updates done at the dealership in the last 4 months and I haven't paid for either of them, and I have received no notification or letters from Ford saying there were updates available. Your dealer should be able to look up the service bulletin or letter that was sent to some and that will allow them to do this update for you under warranty at no charge to you. Assuming you have less than 36,000 miles on your vehicle, not sure what the deal would be after then...
